Should I research formulas if I plan to BF?

The other day, DH mentioned we might want to have some formula at the house "just in case". In true 3rd trimester fashion, I was so offended! But I think maybe I am just being stubborn bc both DH and I want BFing to work out so badly, I refuse to have a backup plan. I feel like I would jinx myself or something. Am I being irrational? Or does it make sense to keep our eye on the prize and only entertain the idea of formula if BFing fails miserably?

  • I would do some research. You never know what will happen. I understand you want to breastfeed, I really want to too BUT you can still give your baby breast milk and also formula :) I would get some just in case and you can always return it if you end up breastfeeding for a long period of time :D (of course not opened ones)

  • I have a lot of samples I've collected over the past few months. I figure that should be enough to sooth a hungry baby for long enough to re-group if for some reason the boob just isn't working.
  • I have a few samples I received. I definitely won't be buying any formula. I didn't last time either. We breastfed for 22 months with no issues. If you did end up needing formula, it would be a pretty easy thing to run to the store and grab.
  • I have every intention on BF this time and refuse to buy any formula. I haven't received samples but if I did I would have gave them away. I'm against the temptation early on.
