October 2015 Moms

Can I just cry?

It's hot. Like 91 degrees at 7pm. In Oregon. And we don't have ac. My window unit can't keep up with the heat so my bedroom is 73 degrees and the rest of my house is 80 degrees. I don't do hot. I love in Oregon. I like the rain and cold.

I promised my husband I would grill steak tonight because it's too hot to cook in the house (really it's too hot to cook at all, but that's just me). He got home at 6:45 and got the grill going and when I took the steak out of the fridge it was bad. I bought it like 5 days ago with the intent to grill it every day but we always ended up not being home for dinner. So now we don't have dinner. My husband left, either to go buy new steak or pick something up. But I just want to go to my parents air conditioned house and cry. And stay there until summer is over. I hate the heat.

  • Yes momma just cry it out! Its just one if those days for you! I agree hot days are more of a no cooking day, a salad at most

  • Tacos always make me happy. I've also cried a lot the past few days. I've been on a bad luck streak. I think pregnancy is a perfect excuse for crying.
  • I feel your pain with heat. I'm not handling the humidity this pregnancy very well and we've only just begun. It was 77 but felt over 100. Walking to my car from our house was a task. So yes you can cry it out if it makes you feel better. I hope it cools off for you.
  • I'm that way with the cold. I'm a Georgia girl born and raised but I've cranked up the a/c for sure. I'd still prefer 100 degrees to 30 degrees every day of the year. And now I want tacos....
  • @DeeGreer give me rain or snow any day of the week. We are only supposed to get 3 months of warm here and it's been a mild winter and spring, so I didn't get my full rainy season. Lol. And I fully support tacos. We have some pretty good taco trucks right by my house.
  • THOSE ARE THE BEST!!!! Carne asada, onion cilantro and a squeeze of lime with some salsa verde. I made some last week but I think that's what I'll make for dinner again tomorrow :)
  • Yes! I can never make them taste as good as the ones from the trucks, so we eat those quite often. I'm all about the super spicy salsa all over them. Mmm. And the homemade tortillas is what gets me everytime.
  • Skirt steak, marinate it in oil garlic and salt and pepper for 2 days, then on the grill! My abuelito taught me how to make tortillas but I always buy them. I love to cook but making the tortillas from scratch is entirely too much when I really wanna just eat lol
  • @lanaloulittle where in Oregon?! I'm in Salem and this heat is terrible! I feel your pain :(

  • Sometimes it feels better just to cry it out! I live in Arizona, it was 108 the other day. All I want to wear is...well nothing! Just sit in the pool naked all day..lol! I will say I like the heat more than the cold, but now being pregnant I think it's going to be a rough summer.
  • I. Hate. Cold. ESPECIALLY cold and wet. I'm so glad to be back in Texas. That being said, I'm also in air conditioning again so I'm sure I'd be singing a different tune without it.

  • I'm in Salem, too! No A/C. No window unit. Just a fan. I JUST took a cold shower to cool down. I really don't know how we are going to survive the summer, ladies. This is hell. Sweaty, swamp assy hell. AND! the sun doesn't set until nearly 10pm in the middle of the summer! So nothing cools down until the early morning hours and then the sun is up by 5:30am and we get to do this all over again.

In in AZ doing the 108 heat too. I can't wear much clothes at all because I instantly sweat through everything.

For you ladies with no a/c I had to do that a while ago and dang near died (I exaggerate but it sure felt that way). If you have room in your freezer get some gallons of water and drink a bit to make a little bit of room and then freeze them. Wrap the frozen gallon in a towel and make that your new cuddle buddy. I would sleep with one that I'd cuddle with and one sitting in front of a fan so it's blow cold on me. It works best if you have 3 or 4 gallons so you can have some freezing while you are using the others. I found the more square shape jugs worked better. It really helps!
  • @ilikestars089 @Birdee212 I'm in Hillsboro. At the highest I think it was 91 today. At least that's what my phone said and my car said similar. The weather has been absolutely insane this spring for us. And if it's any indication of what summer is going to bring, I'm moving back into my parents air conditioned house. Hahaha. My 10,000 btu window unit is apparently not up for the challenge.

@DeeGreer I may just have to pick that stuff up tomorrow when I'm getting a new steak for the hubby. I have a feeling I will be doing lots of outdoor cooking this summer.
  • We need to have an Oregonian club!! I'm in Portland and I'm pretty sure I melted today...like....into a sad little puddle. SO hot for us Oregon natives #:-S I've also been crying like a champ this last week @leah665 . I have some really stressful stuff going on at work but still...I'm crying way more than is normal or rationally acceptable haha.
  • @LydiaPick am Oregonian club for those of us who are going to die this summer. Us natives can't handle heat. Haha. The crying just comes too easily.
  • 106 here tomorrow and I have so much to do with our move,my doctor, the vet. I feel your pain Hun!
  • 1. I'm going to stay in the AC or pool all summer. We live in Florida and it's HOT! The humidity is worse than the heat though! So sorry your ac isn't working!
    2. I think I'll be making tacos for dinner thanks to this thread!

OMG the FL humidity is disgusting.  We lived there this time last year and it was maddening to step outside and immediately be drenched in sweat.  I think I'll just stick to FL vacations haha couldnt live there again

  • 104 here today. And we have water restrictions, so no playing in the sprinklers. Joy!

  • It's going to be 105 where I'm at in California. I wouldn't say I love cold weather, but I do prefer it to roasting alive. I can only take so much clothing off.

We lived a year in LA (feb-feb). I think we had a mild year because I don't remember hating it as much as I hate it here. Or the heat is just different. I don't know. But I feel ya, I can't run around outside naked because I'm too hot :( and bathing suits are only acceptable by a pool.
  • 104 here today. And we have water restrictions, so no playing in the sprinklers. Joy!

Oh no! We luckily rarely have water restrictions. That is miserable. :( I'll cry for you too!
  • I really should be more accustomed to dealing with heat and humidity since I'm from Georgia and lived in New Orleans for most of my adult life, but those 2 years in NJ shoveling snow before moving to Oregon must have broken me.

I'm considering putting up thicker curtains in the den because we get so much sunlight coming through the windows and sliding glass doors that our home essentially becomes an oven.
  • I'm so sorry all you ladies are going through this!!! I can't imagine!! It's still winter/fall here in Chicago. Although today is the first 80 degree day. I haven't left my office yet lol I'm sure I'll melt!
  • I'm a Oregonian momma as well! We moved here from IL so I'm used to the heat. But totally agree this is way warm for us! I'm ready to have our beautiful 70's again. Lol we live south of Eugene so we are even warmer than you! Yuck. Contemplated sitting in my toddlers baby pool yesterday ha!
  • Yuck, not only is it 100 out, my kids are driving me INSANE, and we have to go out across town in this heat. Seriously, just drown me in a pool of ice water and let me be!

  • We live in Louisiana right now and it has been in the 90's and so humid. In less than a month we are moving back to Minnesota and I cannot wait!
  • I live in Eugene! Yes ladies its miserable! I'm gonna hibernate in my home with ac till I deliver this baby! Stay cool its just the beginning.....
  • I feel you with the heat and the steak!

Yesterday I made this yummy dinner and had bought a peach pie to heat up for dessert. I dropped the whole dang pie in the oven when I was taking it out, so I had to throw out the pie AND clean my oven!

  • Everyone make it through another hot day?
  • edited June 2015
I'm over in Central oregon! We almost hit 100 yesterday. Fortunately it is a little drier than over in the valley. But still miserable. Our window unit in the living room has been struggling, but fortunately the one in our bedroom was doing its job so I could sleep comfortably. Seriously contemplating buying a kiddie pool just for me though :)
  • I must be the one weirdo who doesn't mind the heat. I don't love underboob sweat particularly, but I HATE feeling cold. It zaps all motivation for me. Plus without humidity, my hair and skin just feel so dry. With DD I was third trimester in November/December, and trying to find jeans that fit and sweaters I could squirm into was hard for me. Give me sun dresses and rompers any day!

I plan to coast through my SoFla summer with minimal daytime physical exertion, and lots of pool time B-)

  • @CaitLewis15 same here! I hear 90 degrees and get excited! I literally don't do anything outside in the winter unless it's getting from my car to my house. I love the humid Georgia summer! I hadn't even thought of how I'd dress once it gets cold. Thank goodness it's still warm in early October when I'm due!
  • I'm in Canada, Nova Scotia. Summers are usually 31-35 degrees Celsius. Which is roughly 87-95 Fahrenheit. I bought 2 AC for this summer !!
  • We finally ordered a window unit last night! I'm so excited! But the AC is broken in our car now :((
  • I live in Arizona so you can only imagine! I am not looking forward to this summer, wish I can skip it and have October here already. Good thing we have been having rain the past few days. I have those days when I get frustrated too and just cry. I just remind myself, I made it through 20 weeks, I can get through the next 20.
  • SO in an odd turn of events, it rained all night here in Central CA, and again this morning. The weather is rather tropical. So weird.

Seems like a few of us may actually be due in October and in the Central Valley? I'm delivering at Clovis community sound familiar to anyone **wink**

It's been in the 80's around here, I don't mind it too much but after a couple of double shifts it took me a couple of days to get my ankles back to normal! My cousin just had her baby and she lives in Florida, I'm really hoping my swelling doesn't get as bad as hers did! No fun at all
