Calling all gun owners!

Re: Calling all gun owners!

  • @AudriannaMaria sorry to bombard. The convo took a turn so I thought I'd add my two cents. :) Obviously wasn't necessary of me. Thought I was being productive.

Hope you got all the answers you needed about ranges and using firearms.

  • All I have to say to you is 'Merica. Go on with your bad selves Texas mommas.

PS. Previous 3 posters thanks for bombarding my post with safe issues?! It was a post about ranges and if firing a gun is safe or not. Totally off topic.

@AudriannaMaria Really? The original question was answered by consensus that it is safe the discharge at an outdoor range up to 20 weeks so long as one doesn't handle lead ammo nor inhale gunpowder fumes.

Your thread was a great topic and I'm always personally happy to have my own threads evolve. It means people are interested in the topic and further discussion is a good thing IMHO. There is no reason to insult people.
  • @BostonBaby1 I agree that it's totally okay for anyone to change the subject or do whatever, because this is the internet. But it felt like you were forcing your opinion on safes onto the other ladies. Unnecessary. I'm sure they are very smart women that know how to handle a gun and keep it away from little ones.
  • Sheesh..I had no idea so many people owned guns.

The thought of seeing or using one scares the hell out of me.

I certainly was not intending to force my opinions on to anybody. I was simply stating the reasoning behind why the laws in my state are written the way that they are. It is simply a difference of opinion and not bombarding your thread nor is it attacking any of the other women. There have been countless tradgedies (indisputably) involving unsecured weapons. I personally believe that everyone of the women on this thread would teach their own child handgun safety. However, as mentioned above, you cannot control when another child visits your home. Accidents happen and I was not intending to be adversarial with you or anybody else. I apologize if you took it that way however, that was not my intention.
  • And like I said, I live in the city. They will not give you a permit to own a gun if you do not have a safe. I had thought that I had made it very clear that living outside of the city is a different circumstance. You do what's right for you and I apologize if you think that I am forcing my opinions on anybody else.

I'm with you, @satindawl83... my sister is a pediatric emergency trauma specialist and treats little kids with gunshot wounds everyday, virtually none of whom were shot by strangers and virtually all by accident. Have wondered for years how all these little kids and their friends and siblings get hold of guns. Guess this thread has cleared that up for me.

And ps, I'm originally from Texas too. Your state is no excuse not to use some common sense about gun safes.
  • My dad was military police and always had 1-2 handguns in the house or car during travel. We literally never knew he had them as kids or teenagers, we only learned this as late teens and young adults. He kept them for safely well hidden and out of reach, ALWAYS.

My mom allowed my brother to have toy guns and the rule was they could never be aimed at people or pets under any circumstances (unless they were bright colored water guns). My dad may have had a lock on them but I would be shocked if he ever had a safe because I think we would have seen a gun safe. My mom also taught us gun safety (to leave them alone they are not toys) in the event we ever came across one at someone elses house.
