first trimester: Do you still dress up? makeup, hair, nails, brows, clothes..other than stretch pants.

My husband asked me recently why dont I dress up anymore and I wanted to punch him in the face!!! This first trimester has almost taken me out between working in nasty new york city and going to school on the nasty nyc subways. sometimes i dont get home until 11 pm. ok im done ranting. Do you guys have the energy to put on more than a pair of yoga pants and a comfy top? (in denial about maternity clothes lol..want to wait)

  • only a handful of times and even those days were a fake it till ya make it type deal. i really don't even remember 1st tri and I feel like the exhaustion is just starting to lift.

  • I'm wearing maternity jeans for the first time today and they are AMAZING. And today also feels like the first day I actually dressed up for work ... heels and a necklace. NO WAY.

Anyway, I'm totally with you. I've been wearing jeans and simple tops to work for weeks. My hair is always thrown back (I never blow dry it) and my make up routine has consisted of mascara.

Tell your hubby to get over it and hopefully in a few weeks you'll feel a little more like yourself again. I'm hoping I will!
  • Yoga pants for life. I don't even put makeup on anymore. Nooo energy :(
  • People keep asking me if I'm sick because I haven't been wearing makeup. It takes me longer to get ready because sometimes I get tired ...and lay down on the bathroom floor...:/
Still in first tri-Dec 31 due date. Can't wait for this fog to lift.
  • I think I've been lucky with energy levels. I'm definitely veeeery tired, but I don't think it's as bad as some. With that said, I have to dress up for work, and I think making myself LOOK nice makes me feel better mentally. But the second I walk in the door at night it's sweatpants and t-shirts :-)

  • Hahahahahahahahahaaaa! No.
  • This content has been removed.
  • Yes. But I don't think you should feel badly about not doing it. I do it for work.
  • At first I would let myself look like I was dying and that's exactly how I felt lol I make sure now I get up and get ready because I actually feel a ton better when I just get up and get going. But I also didn't really get sick. Just really tired.
  • I think my poor makeup is feeling neglected and and my poor eyebrows:)

I do for work but like a PP said, the instant I get home it's yoga pants or my trusty gym shorts and an oversized tshirt. Do what you gotta do!!
  • Yeah I'm not really looking my best these days. I try to look nice when hubby and I go out but if I'm just going out to grab dinner with a friend I wait until the last possible minute to move. That results in no make up and usually just brushing my hair. :)
  • Nope! With a high energy toddler, I sometimes struggle to get my teeth brushed and face washed by a decent time lol
  • I wear make up to work everyday because I don't want people to notice a drastic change but that's about all I can manage. Haven't done with eyebrows nails or anything else. When I'm not tired I'm throwing up
  • Yep! It's summertime and pants are uncomfortable so it's dress season! I got dressed up the other night for a birthday dinner and an engagement party. Made me feel better
  • Yes, I dress up. I love dressing up! My mom said I didn't crawl as a baby I "walked on all 4s" because I insisted on dresses from that time I could grasp and the dresses got in the way ;)

I wore dresses and heels everyday but today (casual friday=stretch jeans!). The dress pants for work are not the most comfortable by the end of the day. I feel fat in pants. Heels make me feel skinner and look better with the dresses (heels are clarks pumps so fairly comfy). Definitely do my makeup...but have been lazy with eye shadow.
  • My eyebrows are Out. Of. Control. I'm trying to stave off headaches because I don't want to take Tylenol so I've been trying to avoid anything that would cause pain in my head and lead to a headache. I need to find a day where I'm really well rested and bite the bullet. Funny what goes out the window when there is a little one to think about.

Omg my eyebrows look like i am the love child of bert and brooke sheilds! Lol i seriously need to get on that. Fighting the flu right now so....soon i hope.
  • I've just been wearing more dresses so it appears I am put together by my outfit, but my hair in a knotted bun and lack of makeup say otherwise. I'm choosing my battles. :)
  • I wear jeans and a t shirt, eye liner and mascara M-Sat. Sunday's I get dressed nice for church with a skirt and heels and do a little extra makeup (eyeshadow, blush and a little foundation). I usually just wear my hair in a braid or ponytail during the week and straighten it on Sunday's and maybe on Thursdays because I have class.
But I also have fairly easy pregnancies (so far, fingers crossed). I don't get morning sickness, just aversions and sensitive gag reflex mostly. So I don't feel like pregnancy kicks my butt. With my first I did have the severe fatigue but I haven't felt it near as bad with this one. A tender mercy for sure since DD is a very active 1 year old and I bring her to work 20 hrs/week where I also watch a 2 year old. That's another reason I don't wear more than jeans and a t-shirt- I'm around kids all day who would just stain and ruin a nice blouse. ;)
  • I still am, it actually makes me feel better to look half decent. It masks how I'm really feeling, bloated and fat lol. I also have to for work.
  • Yes yes yes, make up, hair, dress everyday I work. I like to look nice for work. The weekends....that's another story.
  • No. I put on make up about twice and DH said that the change was nice, but he prefers me natural. White lies are nice if they are meant for good ;-)

I live in yoga pants. That's dressing up for me. Otherwise I'm in sweatpants. And comfy tops.

I am. I've mostly felt okay, but I'm just weird and intensely dislike going out in to public without some makup and looking decent. I've left in yoga pants and no makeup probably twice, and it was because I was starving and was running through a drive-through late at night. I'm still waiting to see how the 3rd trimester goes for making that much effort!
  • Usually I wear unbuttoned jeans and a tshirt and either sneakers or flip flops. I really do try to get up in time to make myself presentable, but I just can't get out of bed! So it's usually wash my hair and throw some gel and hairspray in it, a little bronzer and mascara. Sometimes if I'm feeling really adventurous I'll straighten my hair. But that's not very often.

  • Love this board! No makeup at all for me except concealer on a red spot I have :) even shaving my legs is something of the past. I've been so sick the first tri with these twins and luckily we love in a very earthy crunchy place and literally no one wears makeup! I used to though because we just moved here from the city and I'm used to it, but not anymore!

Lol! Yes unbuttoned jeans here too!!! Denial of maternity clothes for me.
  • I'm a stay at home wife because of my HG and now high-risk pregnancy so I don't do the whole dress up things because of work anymore. I go to doctors appointments, a specialist, or out running errands so I'm keeping up my part of the household since DH supports our family. I always do my hair and make-up full on if I go out an do anything because I feel human. With the HG I was a walking ghost and felt really down about how I looked so now I try to put in a little more effort.
DH--bless his heart--says I'm beautiful even at my worst but sometimes it's just nice to put on some date-night make-up and a dress just to feel pretty again
  • nope for me. I was never much of a make up person. Only for special occasions because I don't "need" it.

  • @Knottie67744546 I totally hear you. I also work, live, and subway commute in nasty NYC and on top of the awful smells and annoying crowds I am just so exhausted because it's such a physically/mentally/emotionally demanding city. I still do my makeup (when I get to work haha) but my style has really suffered. I want to cry because nothing fits and I feel like such a blimp. I'm not super fancy but I can't even summon up the energy to put together an outfit. Seeing so much high fashion here makes me feel even worse too. I'm planning on just going to Marshalls to get some basic neutral dresses and just rotate scarves/jewelry. It's the best I can think of.
  • I've started to only wear stretch pants or those loose, drawstring pants that only look acceptable on models but make everyone else who wears them look like they're wearing pajama pants or a swimsuit coverup, and I'm totally fine with it.

Shaving, makeup, eyebrows, hair, nails ... nope. I feel like I haven't cared about the whole grooming thing in months, but I'm not hard on myself about it. I've had a really rough trimester so I'm cutting myself some slack. Now that I'm finally on the upswing, I plan on spending a whole day pampering myself and hopefully getting back to feeling like myself.

I think if you can, then do it because it may help you feel better. If it's a big NO, then skip it and be beautiful you. I'm super surprised, and kind of offended for you, that DH would say that or even think that! Sorry!
  • I've been doing the same as always for work. On weekends, unless I'm going out for an event or that kind of thing, I keep it basic and casual.

I still wear makeup every day to work (not on the weekends though!) and have to dress nice for work but I've been wearing a LOT of stretchy maxi skirts and jersey dresses. I teach teenagers so they'll notice and call me out if I get too sloppy ;)

  • Barely. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home when I want to, so the days that I don't feel like getting dressed up, I just stay home. ;)

But because I haven't really been dressing up, when I do go out on the weekends, I'm more likely to put effort into it because it's more novel now. Now shaving my legs, that's a whole different story.

    First tri is no joke.
  • I've been keeping up appearances. I've paired down the makeup to foundation bronzer and mascara but most people haven't noticed or think it's my summer natural look. My work requires me to dress semi professionally, but otherwise I live in my running clothes or yoga pants.
  • Sloppy clothes however I do my make up because oregnancy acne is so bad
  • I don't wear much makeup to begin with, but I've worn even less lately. I do the bare minimum with getting ready really. I'm just too tired and could care less this first trimester.
