Anyone gotten a private ultrasound at 16 weeks instead of waiting for 20 week anatomy scan?

  • Not sure why people have to bash others on here.... To each their own. Finding out gender and finding out about fatal abnormalities are two different things. Just because someone wants to find out the gender of their baby doesn't make them ignorant to the 20wk AS. I personally will be finding out the gender via an outside clinic that comes highly recommended to me by dr, family and friends, at 17wks. I own a dance studio and with travels this summer I won't be able to find out sex until I'm at least 25wks as I'll be out of the state for a few weeks. My dance season starts right back up end of August making nesting and nursery prep hard to say the least. I'm a planner and organizer at heart so I feel it's the best option for me. I think everyone should do what feels right for them instead of criticizing others for being excited in the moment.... Excited for everyone here finding out early on, at 20wks or neither :)

  • I get an ultrasound at my doctor every month, they just do it that way where I go. My second appointment was at 11 weeks and the doctor did the ultrasound and said she was thinking what she saw would develop into boy parts. We went yesterday, at 15 weeks and the doctor did the ultrasound again, and she was 90% sure it's a girl. So, at this point we are waiting till our next appointment to officially accept the gender!

I went to peek a belly here in IL at 15 weeks. We were able to know that we are having a little boy! Even if u waited to 20 weeks there is always a chance the tech could be wrong so I chose to pay the lil bit of money to find out sooner.

In Lockport?! I went there as well. I felt like the ultrasound tech's there knew more and explained more than the one's at my doctors office.
  • I went today and I'm 15 weeks and 2 days!
  • I got a 3D ultrasound at 16 weeks and they were able to tell me the sex! A boy with 100% confidence..:mainly because the penis was just hanging out there. I did it for fun and not in place of.

If you want to go, do it! Don't let anyone on here tell you any different! I loved the extra chance to see my BOY! :)
  • I did, and it was totally worth it !!!! They treated me so well there , I was really happy with the entire experience
  • I went to an independent ultrasound place yesterday morning and I am 16 weeks. They included 4D images, a DVD and a live internet stream for my family who lives 1,300 miles away in the package I purchased and it was amazing. Unmistakably a boy when we look at it in 4D. We will be going home next month. My husbands in the military and its the only time he gets leave and we will be able to see our families before the baby arrives. My sister wants to throw me a baby shower so that was my main reasoning for going, since my 20 weeks scan isn't until after my husbands leave dates. I had a great experience and recommend doing your research and not picking the first one you find. Ours was worth the money we spent to me, as our technician was amazing. She found the baby on the screen and put my husbands hand on my tummy and had him poke gently near baby's feet and had him "play" with the baby. He was kicking him right back and I've never seen my husband so happy. We wouldn't of had anything like that experience at my doctors office (:

I didn't think it previously necessary to spell out my entire life in my short post, but to clarify to the women who apparently need the whole story for the reasoning behind my emotions:

We were told by the nurse at 4 weeks that we would find out the sex by blood test at 16 weeks as it can be done along with the down syndrome test. However we were then informed at 16 weeks that they no longer provide the gender blood test but try to determine it during the 20 weeks scan.

I cried because my sister had already purchased tickets to fly half way across the world for a gender reveal party that she planned for my 18th week.  I think any women who had almost 100 people coming to a party to find out the gender of her baby, would be a little upset that there would not be anything to reveal.

Yes, I know that this 20 week test is not to determine the sex of the baby but that it is done in addition to checking on baby's health. Yes, I checked on the safely of having another sonogram and I don't think that the head of maternity for women with high risk pregnancies would have done anything that would have jeopardized my child.

I promise this is not meant to be mean or nasty.... if I were in your shoes I would in no way let myself get worked up by scheduling a 100 person gender reveal party at 18 weeks. What if you get a private ultrasound but the baby doesn't cooperate to be able to determine the sex? I would personally wait to plan that large of a party AFTER I already found out for sure! That way you avoid this type of stress altogether. And I would definitely want the sex determined by more than one source that early since there can be mistakes. Best of luck to you!!
