UO thursday!

My UO, it makes me stabby when people say that healthcare, government programs, breastpumps, etc are free. NOTHING is free. Someone, somewhere has paid for that "free" service. A lot of times the person receiving the service has paid for it ten times over. End rant.

UO - I feel that kid leashes are probably actually super useful. Coworkers were talking about how awful they are, but I feel like they get a really bad rap. Not to be judgy about other people's kids, but almost every time I go out in public, I see at least one kid who could maybe benefit from being on one.. Or at least the people around the kid would benefit. Am I the only one?

Nope I have used it at fair/zoo/ and other like settings. I never have for grocery store or anything like that. That way they aren't strapped to stroller and you don't worry that they randomly decide to run that one time. Also harder for some one to snatch. Yes it's not likely to happen but I feel more comfortable. They walk with me and it's more precaution. It's not like I am walking the kids like a dog. It's a freedom with boundaries.

Yesss! And I hate the argument that "oh, well I can control my kid just fine without one." Okay, well every kid is not your kid, and they have different temperaments. I can't say for sure whether or not I'll use them on my children, because I don't know how they will behave. But I'd much rather have one on my child and keep them safe even if that means other parents (and nonparents) judging me. To me it's better than the whole strap them in a stroller thing. At least they get to have some freedom and autonomy, but can't actually get away.

And on a related note, I was driving home the other day and a two year old ran out into the road in front of me. I would much rather see your child restrained in some way than almost hit your child because they did what kids sometimes do and ran off out of your control.

That's terrifying. Thank god everyone is okay. I probably would have been shaky for hours if a baby ran in front of my car. If it was my child I would probably strap him in his seat immediately and go by a children's strap. I agree, if your child is a runner it's much better safe than sorry.

Yes! I went to a carnival/festival thing with my SIL and her son and he HATES being in the stroller, but when you let him out, he wanders far and wide because he hates being too cooped up. It was in watching my SIL chase him everywhere that I decided leashes aren't a bad idea at all as a safety thing in large crowds and other similar situations.

Oh yeah, it really scared me. Luckily I saw him before he even ran out into the road, so I was keeping an eye on him anyways. I can't even imagine as a mother seeing my own child running out in front of a car.

Edu-macated... Want to guess the sex from my 8 week ultrasound?

I can't stand people who don't speak a second language (well or fluently) trying to teach their baby a second language. Saying 'hola' as HO-la is not going to teach them anything. Start with whatever is normal in your house then move on to a second. If one or both parents are bilingual then go for it!

Not a Kenya fan. I am kind of getting bored with Atlanta, but happy that New York is back:)

  • UO - parents who refuse to lay down the law or discipline their kids in public. I can't stand seeing kids hit or be disrespectful to their parents, especially while throwing a fit, ruining everyone else's one night out.
