Success after IF

the helmet sucks!...BAD!!!

my poor little girl.

I cried all last night at the fitting. good thing all the rooms at the clinic have tissue. hmmm. I wonder why...

she woke up this morning all smiles and giggly (she sleeps in our bed with me from 5 - 7 am every day.) she was touching my face and cooing. what an awesome way to wake up!

9 am, the helmet goes on. her mood changed dramatically. she hasn't smiled since. I think she is confused AND bothered. the stupid helmet keeps sliding down just above her eyes. it's horrible. she screeched when I put her in her crib for her nap. I picked her up, soothed her and put her back down. this went on and on until she was exhausted. she can hardly move her head in the crib. it's torture for a mother to watch.

please PLEASE make these 2 months go by quickly!!!!!

  • I missed this yesterday - or whenever you posted about it - why does the poor thing have to wear a helmet???  Little Gini, she looks so sad!

  • she was diagnosed with plagiocephaly. she has always favored her left side (started in my belly I'm told) and now has a very distinct flat spot on her head. because her head is not round (at the moment) her ear is moving forward and her left eye is also being affected. she has asymmetry with her face that would only get worse if left untreated. the helmet has to be worn for 23 hours a day for the next 2 months. I hate it!

    :(

  • Poor baby and poor mama!  I have a friend whose LO had a hip problem that they started out saying she'd have to have surgery, after wearing this enormous brace for three months, solid (no time off).  She wore the brace for a little under two months and the problem healed.  Hopefully, Gini will be a (twice!) miracle baby and prove them all wrong with their estimates on how long it will take to correct the problem.  Take care - she will get used to it soon -

  • My mom babysits for a little girl that to wear a helmet for almost 7 months. The only thing that affected her for awhile is she got use to banging her head and it not hurting it because of the helmet. It was kinda funny the few times I did see her hit her head after the helmet came off and look at us like that hurt, why? I don't know remember the reason why she had to wear it, but she's all good now at 13 months of age. Hope that gives you some hope and humor.

  • I'm so sorry sweetie!  I hope the next 2 months fly by for you and your beautiful daughter.
  • I'm really sorry you have to deal with this but I'm sure the first few days are the hardest.  I hope that your precious girl gets used to the helmet and you see that wonderful smile again soon.  I know it's hard, but try not to let it stress you out too much... she'll adjust easier if you act like everything is okay.  I hope the 2 months fly by and she is completely healed!  Good luck!
  • That sucks and I'm sorry you have to go through this but man is she the most beautiful thing ever or what???

  • Awww, that has to be so hard. :( Poor thing.

I'm sure once she gets the hang of it she'll be back to happy and the time will fly past.

    Hang in there.

  • Oh my god I cried for you reading this, I can only imagine how horrible it is to watch her be so uncomfortable :(
  • I am so sorry!  I too was very affected by your post, as I cried reading it.
  • I am so sorry.  I hope the time goes by fast and your DC gets use to it.
