Underwire Bras

when do I need to stop wearing underwire bras? I heard you shouldn't wear them when pregnant or breastfeeding. Has anyone bought new bras yet?

Some say you shouldn't wear an underwire while breastfeeding, but as long as the bra fits properly and the wire is against your ribs and not your boobs, they are actually fine. I have never heard anything about not wearing them while pregnant.

I'm fitting in my bras okay still, but my boobs never went back to normal after my last pregnancy. I had to size up once while pregnant, and grew 3 sizes (!!!) while BFing.

I wear them all the time but they are starting to get uncomfortable because my boobs are so swollen. Haven't bought any yet but I will soon for sure. I went from a 32B to a 32D after my augmentation 3years ago and now I'm a 32DD at 7weeks and I think it's kinda awesome lol.

I'm a 34dd when I'm not pregnant. With my 1st I wore an underwire the entire time is was pregnant and breastfeeding, just for the support. I actually got my bras at Motherhood maternity. They are nursing bras but I wore them before I was nursing.

I think the reason a lot of people stop wearing underwire is because they can get uncomfortable. As a 32FF before pregnancy I'm hoping to benefit from wire support as long as I can!

I was reading something about it altering the natural shape of the breast and potentially giving you mastitis? And my friend told me I would need to change to wire free bras, but I'd be quite happy staying in underwire bras!

I've already had to move my bras over to the next hook, and if I had a decent maternity store around, I'd already be in maternity bras. The girls have gone up probably a cup size already, with no sign of stopping in sight. (I'm 9wks5days.)

Ive already semi-swapped. I wear my underwire free maternity bras on the days my boobs are particularly sore. Iv only got one maternity bra so far, but have more coming. Im a 10E, (i think american 10=32) and boobs so far (8w) have only slightly grown. My sister had problems with supply, and was told it was exaserbated by wearing a bra with wire. I would talk to your midwife/lactation consultant about it if your worried

Like a pp said, I think it depends on the fit. After giving birth, I had a wireless bra and I was going insane! I hate the feel of it and the way it makes my boobs look. But mostly the feel. I lasted a few days then dragged myself to motherhood and bought a wired bra. I had 1 bra for a long time. When it broke after 6 months or so, I just bought a regular bra that fit me. It's not like I was using the clips to breastfeed anyway, just pulling out my boob from the top.

Forgot to add that my boons are somewhere in the DDD or E range. Oh and even though I'm still breastfeeding, I've had to buy a new bra again due to growth!

Definitely as long as you are properly sized you should be able to keep wearing underwire. It's not as big a deal when you are pregnant (IMO) as when you start producing milk. I got a plugged duct from having my son incorrectly positioned in my baby carrier. So I don't think it's the underwire thats the problem, its the impingement of anything against lactating boobs.

Make sure the wire doesn't doesn't poke against any soft tissue of your boob. If you have big boobs would suggest getting fitted at an actual bra store with lots of sizes (Not a motherhood materinity or even a Victoria's secret IMO) . That way they will tell you what your size is, not try to fit you to the sizes they have.

I didn't have any problem wearing them up until the last couple of weeks of my last pregnancy. Then they became uncomfortable. I tried to avoid them as much as possible when breastfeeding because I swear it affected my milk supply.

I already bought the next cup size up. Started at 34FF and it's now uncomfortable so at a 34G.
