Loose shirts or let it show?

Okay ladies I need some input. I've been hiding whatever stomach I have right now with loose clothing because I've been very bloated so far and feel huge. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and my first pregnancy so I know the noticeable bump is still on its way but my clothes options are becoming very limited! What are you ladies doing this far along??

Re: Loose shirts or let it show?

  • I've told my department at work (I'll be 12w on Saturday) so at this point I'm letting it show. We'll be telling the last of our family this weekend too, no use in hiding anymore!

  • Loose shirts for me. I just feel like a whale in anything else
  • At 13 weeks I would just start telling people. Hiding it is getting so old and I'm only 10 weeks
  • I'm 11w5d and wearing loose shirts. All I have is bloat mainly but I wear loose shirts because I sweat SO MUCH! Plus with Summer heating up it's getting even worse!
  • Thanks ladies! I've told everyone already but the clients I work with who I plan on just finding out when they see it. I just feel huge for 13 weeks!
  • I'm 10 weeks. My agency know, my student know, my fam and friends know. I'm not waiting for 12 weeks. So honestly, i let the mini bump/bloat shine on
  • I've just been wearing my regular fitted shirts, it looks like I've just gained some weight, I could care less, any day now they'll find out.

I let it show... I have a couple comfy maternity shirts I bought (I got excited and bought a few like my 8 week). They definitely show off whatever my belly is showing whether it's bloat or bump. I kind of just don't care at this point. :)
  • Dresses! But if it's not warm enough I wear flowy shirts with the belly band thingy. In the past few days I've noticed more bloat/bump going on and have decided that I don't care if it shows, I'm "proud" of my baby bloat hehe :\">

  • I am also 13 weeks and it is bloat/bump/blump whatever, but I finally told everyone and I am just excited so I am letting it show! If someone thinks I just look fat that's fine with me :D
  • I say let it show! Plus I feel like a lot of the time trying to hide it and wearing bigher clothes actually makes me look bigger.
  • I am also 13 weeks...i was hiding it but after our 12 week ultrasound i told my boss so now i am done hiding. Let it show!!

I'm also 13 weeks and this is the approach I'm taking.  My only loose shirts are kind of tent-y, so I think that would be a dead giveaway.  Until I'm ready to tell, I'll just let people wonder if I've been eating too many donuts.

I wear loose shirts. Which makes me look larger rather than pregnant.

    Edited a word.

  • I'm 11weeks, and since today was the last day of school- I'm officially not hiding it anymore. I wasn't being very successful to begin with, but now I'm pulling out the maternity shorts and I'm done sucking it in! Mostly because it won't suck in anymore!!!
  • Let it show!! I'm 15 weeks and much more comfortable in maternity clothes!!
  • Not going to lie I wore a shirt the other day that said I love my bump only bc it was clean my husband aunt gave it to me haha! I don't look preg at all just bloated but I was tired didn't want to go out but hubby did so I put it on!

@lynem29 thanks for the photos! I thought when a bump first started it would just be very low and that if it was a big round bump like yours it was probably intestines and bloating? No? Also, we're like the same size :) I'm 5'7 and was 107 but gained weight right before I got pregnant and now i'm up to 120 (today).
I had that same bump yesterday and now today my tummy is flat and abs are back!

As for OP, I am wearing tank tops under my looser fitting shirts, I feel gross having a big bump that's just bloating and not a baby. It's all up to you though, whatever you're most comfortable in is great.
  • @lynem29 @cmdd I'm around the same size (height wise at least) I'm 5'8 and started at 125 lbs., bloated at 3-5 weeks went to 131 lbs., got MS and went down to 123 lbs. I think that that is bloat and your organs shifting. I look like that some days and back to flat stomach the next day. And it changes throughout timing of day and what I've eaten.
  • @lynem29 AH I apologize! I re-read your post and noticed you said you're 14 weeks. I don't know why I assumed you were around the same time as me. I apologize! Congrats on your bump :)

wait @lynem29 and @knottie15445834 i'm not trying to be rude or say it's gas. I'm actually wondering, will i have a flat belly one day and then wake up with a huge bump the next? Is it because the baby is right underneath the pelvic bone and that shifts things up?
  • @cmdd I'm 11w5d and have a bloat but go back to flat stomach throughout the day. Yeah, everything is pushed upwards and smushed together while baby takes most of the room. But it starts low and small.
  • @CMDD and @Knottie15445834 no offense taken. :)>- you can't tell in the pictures but I have an extremely short torso and am all legs. Once my uterus pushed up out behind my pubic bone at around 12 weeks the rest of my belly rounded out over the next 2 weeks. The angle of the pic makes the top of my belly look higher than it is I think! My OB told me this Tuesday that it isn't bloat I just have very little body fat and my short torso forces my uterus to push out farther than a woman with a more proportioned torso to leg ratio.
It does not change no matter what I eat, is the same size regardless if it's first thing in the morning or late at night, and taking a large BM doesn't effect it at all!! TMI sorry!
Those extra few weeks make a huge difference I think! And my due date based on conception should technically be 11/30 but my OB wants to keep 12/3 since baby is measuring a few days small likely due to the SUA
  • @lynem29 I have a short torso as well! I swear 2/3 of my body is legs!! I wonder if this will happen to me as well. I'm assuming so! Thanks for the explanation! I'm a few weeks behind so I know that it really does make a difference. I'm so excited for it! I'm in the awkward bloated phase still haha I'm so over it!
  • Let it show! It's still a baby bump because it's caused by baby!
  • @TeacherWifeMom you have the right idea. A Blumpie is still a baby bump because it wouldn't be there without baby!!
@Knottie15445834 I'd be interested to see if you experience the same thing! I literally have to buy jeans with a 35-36inch inseam and there is only a few inches between the end of my ribcage and the iliac crest (top) of my pelvis. I still feel like I'm in that awkward phase if I wear flowy/looser shirts because it makes me look like I have a beer gut.
When I wear a form-fitting shirt I look obviously pregnant. Everyone shows at different times in their pregnancy but for me the last two weeks have made a HUGE difference!
  • Everyone knows, so I let it show... I know one of my coworkers lost her husband last week, and she straight out told me my pregnancy is giving her hope. It reminding her of the cycle of life and making her grieving a little easier. She is the sweetest woman I know and acts like a mom with me (most of my coworkers do) but I've been being a lot less self conscious and letting my bloat/bump show proud (I'm 14w5d) because I see her face light up the second she sees me walking down the hall. I may think I look like a whale, but right now she needs the joy and loves seeing my bump.
  • I have only told a few people in my office.  I figured everyone else can think that I am gaining weight.  Leggings, maxi skirts and maxi dresses is all I wear.  I love it!

  • I'm 14 weeks and a couple days. I'm either going loose empire or super fitted. Otherwise I just look fat. Can't wait to have a real round bump. This in between stage is annoying!!!

Let it show. I'll be 14w tomorrow and mine is no longer bloat. I only weigh 115lbs and am 5'8" so right around 12 my uterus made its appearance above my pubic bone and now I have a bump. I had massive bloat early on and now it's a firm, round little belly. If you are not trying to hide the pregnancy for a little while longer wear it with pride!

    Awe you looks super cute!!

I was already bigger so really I don't look much different, I'll let it show when I do start to form a bump.
  • @lynem29 Just seeing how tiny you are, you're going to be all belly when you really show. My cheeks look like they're storing food for the winter.

  • I was wearing loose shirts up until last week, but at 14w and 2nd baby, now it looks more like a bump (looks the same throughout the day). So I'm gonna let it show :) I did the same last time and honestly i felt more comfortable and "slimmer" wearing tight clothing than disguising it with empire waist and looser clothes. But that's just for my body type so it differs fro everyone.

@lynem29 ah I have a very long waist so it'll prob be different for me. I also think my bump will grow slowly and not be 6 months looking by 14 weeks. So I'm with not letting it show now. I feel like I'm showing off gas :p
  • I'm still hiding  so trying to wear loose fitting clothes as much as possible. But today I walked into my boss's office and he was blatantly staring at my stomach - WTF! I still have 2 weeks until my 12w appt, so trying to hold off until then.
  • 10 weeks and loose shirts for me.  I'm a very private person, so I didn't want to let it out until about midway like my last pregnancy, but hiding it is becoming almost impossible.  My belly is huge and I thought it was bloat or because I haven't really lost my baby weight from my 1st.  HOWEVER, Monday I got the news that I'm carrying twins!  My coworkers will definitely know soon...

  • Depends on the day. I'm also right in between and on days when I'm not feeling too extra bloated I'll just wear my normal clothes and let it show. I'll use the hairtie trick on my jeans but don't mind tighter/form fitting tops. On days when I feel like a whale I'll wear flowy shirts or sundresses to cover it up. I'm looking forward to the day when I can just let it all hang out and every single person will clearly know I'm pregnant.

    That is incredibly touching. >:D<
