I had 3/4s of an Orange edition Redbull today. I wanted to check it out, and needed a little boost. I didn't drink the whole thing, and definitely something I do on the reg. It was cheating in my book!
I eat turkey sandwiches occasionally. Every time I walk past the subway in walmart I immediately want some. I wouldn't worry about it. Moderation is key. I drink the occasional coffee (split with my husband usually), or the occasional Carmel frap. from Starbucks, or even a couple sips of Dr. Pepper. I'm not going to drive myself crazy by telling myself I can't have something especially when it's something I want.
The internet is the absolute worst! I was doing fine and following the rules but not avoiding things. I heated my meats and asked if my cheese was pasteurized, but then i started to google! I discovered that some doctors say no to soft serve, DQ is my current fav, and that pretty much destroyed me. I went nuts and almost avoided everything! I even asked my doctor if she could test my blood for listeria during my diabetes test. (yes, looking back, it was very embarrassing)
I am calming down now because living my life in fear is absolutely ridiculous. I keep telling myself if I believed google the human race as we know it would probably not exist. Plus, the only healthy foods to eat would be over processed junk.... explain that one.
I am trying to relax and reading everyone's messages here has been soo helpful! Thanks ladies! I hope everyone has a great rest of their pregnancy.... We are almost there!
I've had lunch meats that are fresh from trusted brands and deli locations. I've had sushi from restaurants I know.
I had avoided these, and lots of other things until I did more research into scientific studies and reasonings against them. Lots of it is fear. People are more willing to trust what they remember being a no-no in the movie "knocked up" than actual research - so I get a lot of sideways glances from friends who are certain they know what I can and cannot eat.
Caffeine is my downfall. I really don't measure how much I drink, but my instinct tells me I'm still in the safe zone. I still worry about it constantly.
I rarely will finish a coffee mug of coffee, and will have up to 24oz of diet coke. But most days it's only a 12oz diet coke.
It's so hard for me cuz I love my morning coffee, and sometimes my workday is insane and diet coke is my little highlights to get me through lol.
Don't worry about it! I eat stuff like chicken salad and cold deli meats fairly often! The key is, as with most things, moderation. I won't be chowing down on a cold turkey sandwich several meals in a row, but a couple times a week? No biggie!
Those of you eating turkey sandwiches in moderation, It only takes one time to eat a contaminated sandwich. I understand the more you eat it, statistically speaking, you would be more likely to contract it, but if you're really concerned about listeria, limiting to how much you eat it will not stop it from happening. I mean I think we're fine to eat all the sandwiches we want, but listeria doesn't work like say caffeine where moderation actually countsfor something...
Re: Anyone out there eat off-limit foods?
Hubby's face was a picture...'you haven't just eaten ALL that have you?' Me ... 'Err yes and I want another one...!'
