very curious to see how you guys felt about occasional glass of wine later on in pregnancy! Not sure where I stand on this and was curious to see who has drank wine while pregnant in the past and/or who is very against it!
I had a glass of red wine every now and then with my first pregnancy. Dr SUGGESTED it lol. No issues, perfect baby. I have no problem with a glass from time to time. Getting drunk however... Not somethin I plan on doing
My OB during my first pregnancy said it was fine to have a glass of wine after 20 weeks. I had a baby moon in Tuscany around 23 weeks so I definitely did tasting sips here and there. And i had sips of my hubby's beer over the summer when i was in my third trimester. With my OB's blessing i felt perfectly comfortable and everything was fine.
I have a blood clotting disorder a glass of wine is recommended for me to help keep my blood thinned out but I doubt I will because I don't like wine.. But I live in a very harsh town and theirs moms that are still at the bar getting drunk at 5 months pregnant which I don't like any of them girls they clearly don't like themselves either..
Right now, wine sounds disgusting to me (lovely first tri aversions) but I wouldn't be adverse to a few sips throughout pregnancy... I don't judge anyone that has a glass or two a week after the first tri but IDK that I will - I think DH would judge me.
I drank the occasional glass of wine at events I would go to during my first pregnancy. My little boy was perfectly healthy- even born at 36 weeks. I will do the same with this one too. I just think of all the crazy stuff they did in the 60's and 70's while pregnant- not knowing half the stuff they do now.
Lol I'm too paranoid... plus I know DH would freak out lol. But I've heard that its fine and also that its not... idk just talk to your doctor and go from there! I'm sure there are plenty of moms who had a glass here and there and had perfect babies.
My mw suggested it towards the end of my pgs. I did have a glass here and there. But heartburn was soooo aweful that i could hardly stand or enjoy but i see absolutely nothing wrong with it. Many other cultures use it for relaxation in labor even. And when i had my homebirth i had one small glass before transition and it kept things calm for me.
Ugh, I *wish* my OB would give the OK on a drink here and there, but she says no way. She did say non-alcoholic beer is okay, but it's just not the same.
I met up with some girlfriends last night and Holy OMG their wine smelled so amazing. I kept trying to sneak whiffs of it, lol.
I plan on asking my OB about this, but right now my plan is to not partake in any alcohol. I always like a good challenge. Since my DD is 12/28, I most likely won't be drinking until next year- 2016!! Can you believe that?! I do love my wine and craft beer though...
I had a 1/2 glass when I was 40 weeks. Trying to relax enough for baby to come. Didn't work. I take sips here and there but would never have a full glass.
I seem to agree with the majority here - a small glass of wine here and there after the first trimester is fine with me and my OB. As long as your four ounces doesn't become a binge drinking session I don't see the harm. Still won't partake in public once I'm visibly pregnant because it's such a taboo in the US.
I am undecided. I suppose my plan is to abstain from all alcohol, but if I get a craving for it I just may indulge. I would probably keep it at a half glass and only in the privacy of my home (I fear judgment!). My friends have done this and all have had healthy babies.
I'm just not interested in having alcohol going through my babies immature system and having to process it whether or not a small amount should be fine.

It's funny how drinking here in the US is taboo, but in France pregnant women drink wine all the time and they consider eating fresh veggies taboo! )
I drank a glass of red wine and some champers here and there during my first pregnancy. DD is super healthy and advanced for her age. I'll probably do the same during this pregnancy.

I will likely partake in some wine late in pregnancy. Im not a wine in the summer type person so it will likely be third tri but itll happen im sure.
And funny story. My sis was a few days past due with her second and was out at a restaurant with her husband. She ordered a glass of wine and the waitress gave her a funny look. The woman in the next booth over noticed and turned to the waitress and said, "Pick your jaw up and get the damn lady her drink! And never again question the decision of a mama ready to pop!"
My DH would flip out! I come from a pretty traditional family background and so does he. They would probably think the devil got a hold of me! Loool
Mine would too! He would go nuts. But my sister had a glass of red wine every so often during her two pregnancies. I doubt I will drink at all but I'm not against it.
My midwife recommends red wine later in the second trimester and the third to help you sleep or relax. I'll be having some on my anniversary on June 21st for sure!! And to the person who is thinks it's bad to drink alcohol because it will get to the developing fetus...I hope they are only eating organic vegetables, not eating GMOs, avoiding unnatural skin care products, avoiding processed food..etc. That stuff is way worse for a developing baby than an occasional glass of wine. (not that I'm avoiding all of that..just saying)

This is me too! I'm paranoid and I know my husband would literally freak out! But like you, I know plenty of women who have had an occasional glass and they have perfectly healthy babies.
I'm taking a trip to Napa Valley in October (I'll be 32 weeks) and I fully intend on having a glass or two of wine. I do plan on asking my doctor beforehand, but almost all of my friends report the occasional glass here and there, and many have said their OB's recommend it. I see nothing wrong with a glass, as long as it's in moderation. I
Not planning on it mostly because I would irrationally blame myself if something DID go wrong. But that's my own issue. My sense of smell has been so strong tho that I swear when I smell beer I taste it. We're all going to be the cheapest dates come January!
I don't drink. It's not a moral or ethical thing, alcohol just doesn't agree with me. The only thing that I think needs to be noted is that the size of a glass of wine is very dependent upon who is pouring it. I would implore everybody just be careful about how large your glass is. Example, A goblet for Merlot is much larger than a white wine glass.
My hubby and I had a margarita almost everyday before he deployed.. Turns out I was also a month pregnant. Oops! My doctor laughed at me and reassured that everything will be fine.
We have some alcohol in the house and it makes me cringe. I don't think I could take a sip of red wine even if I wanted to! LOL at being the cheapest dates in January!
@merci81 At our post we have a nutrition counselor.. It really is weird how every doctor differs! Yesterday I was told absolutely no sushi and they limited me to 300mg of caffeine a day.
Re: Drinking!
It's coming I'm sure.

I wish i could shake that woman's hand.
If anyone is interested in some statistics about wine during pregnancy, here's a good article: https://www.mommypotamus.com/red-wine-and-sushi-pregnancy-diet-myths-debunked/
Just know that a lot of OBs will say no for liability reasons. People are too sue-happy nowadays.
