Anyone already thinking names?

For me, a pregnancy doesn't start to feel real until I hear a heartbeat, or feel some movement. One thing that has always helped me is to have a name picked out. With our first we found out super early that he was going to be a boy and we just happened to fall in love with a name right off. With our second, we didn't find out gender, but knew we wanted to welcome a Charlie to our family, so we had a boy and girl variant of it. This time around we don't plan to find out again, but we have started talking names. I just thought I'd see if you other mamas were thinking about it yet and if so what you had come up with. So far we have Dax for a boy and Ryan for a girl.

We have a girls name picked out that we have had before I was pregnant with my son. If I have another boy I'm screwed in the name department. We had the hardest time picking a boy name and only chose one as we were leaving the hospital.

Girls name has been picked out since before DS1 but I have 2 boys and no names for 3rd. We have committed to using family names except I don't like any of DH family names and he doesn't like mine (or a cousin has ruined a name by failing at life...) when I say that I mean one night stands resulting in children, multiple rehabs and arrests, I can't name my child the same name regardless of how much I like it!

As others have said we already have a thread about names. I'd like to respectfully ask that we try to keep the duplicate topics to a minimum due to the fact that it is tough to keep up with the traffic on here already. It will only get more hectic and cluttered as we gain more members and it can be frustrating to answer the same questions multiple times. Thanks ladies!!

and don't worry about deleting the thread. That's called "dirty deleting" and is highly frowned upon. Just go check out the other one

Maybe I'm just being silly, but the other name post looks like it is asking opinions on names that someone else has chosen already. I was asking what other people were thinking for names. Might just be a slight difference, but I don't want to hijack someone else's topic. Again, maybe I'm just not understanding. Maybe I'm not looking at the right thread. Is there a way to link it?

@camusoh2011 You're not being silly. I'm not quite sure of all the rules for threads here, I would have assumed the same thing about the names. I just think it's great that both threads got people talking about their names. I read them both no matter what.

It's not a rule so much as board etiquette. Imagine if every single user started their own thread about morning sickness or sore boobs. It gets out of control really fast and when people have important questions they end up getting missed because everyone is busy telling 20+ different users that morning sickness happens all day, not just in the morning and yes, my boobs hurt too! I'm not saying that you can't post whatever you want. I'm just asking that everyone try to be aware of what has already been posted and if there is already a thread related to it try not to duplicate it if possible. This is the same reason we started the "daily ticker change" threads. The more people we get, the more cluttered it gets and I just don't want people to get missed because of it. I have seen it happen and it sucks.

I get what you mean. I'm just saying I didn't really duplicate anything. I'm not sure why everyone is getting so worked up about it. I will search from now own before creating a new thread (or not bother at all). With so many introduction threads and so on I feel like we will all survive with two name threads. Lesson learned though and I will be more careful in the future about what I start since I know people will be watching out for it.

After someone on this thread said there was another I checked it out and agree with op this isn't a duplicate. I contributed to this thread because it felt more open where as the other seemed more like a question that i didn't have anything to contribute to. We will have plenty of name threads as the weeks/months go on. I don't think there is anyway around that. (There is a great baby name board FYI)

The point is trying to eliminate as many of them as possible. It's one thing when it's a dead thread and not on the front page. It's another when it's multiple still on the front page. Like I said... It's board etiquette and I'm politely asking that we, as a group, try to keep it from getting out of control. Getting the early members on board with simple things like this from the start is actually a really great way to avoid a lot of it because new members will see how the board works. No one is getting crazy about it. I feel like it shouldn't be necessary to explain something like this. It was a simple and polite request. No one was being rude or saying "you can't post this" just hey in the future try not to duplicate active threads.

Dirty Lurking Lurker

Have as many threads as you want on whatever topic you want. Just be prepared to not get vary many replies because most people only like saying something one time, maybe 2. Condensing will help you find the answers you seek! Besides, no one is mad at OP. Just letting her know next time for future reference.

That way when the board isn't full of clutter, you can easily find the random, drive by posters who scold you for being big meany heads.

Holy cow people. We get it. You are unhappy that there are two name type threads. I cannot delete this one and you said that's fine. My objections to all the corrections were that 1- I didn't feel it was a duplicate and 2- having multiple people saying it was a duplicate and yada yada makes it seem less like a polite request and more like people on a bit of a trip about it. I have already stated that I won't start new threads. If you want to contribute names you have thought of to this one then go for it. Otherwise, let's leave the "don't make more than one thread on a topic" posts for something else.

Look, maybe I'm in the minority, but I 1) don't see the horrible thing about the double post because, despite the fact that one post might get ignored completely eventually as this board gets larger, then that is all that will happen. If someone gets her feelings her then, then we can chat about it again. 2) I agree, the posts had initially different presentations, and 3) as more and more people came to reiterate that there are 2 posts, it did seem like people were getting a little perturbed, which is probably where the OP is coming from. One post is all that is necessary to point out there is another similar post, not multitudes.

And, when she asks to let it die, I think we should. Not come and ask her to calm down. She got a little battered with so many people telling her there were two posts. See it from her perspective, especially if she's new.

Just my opinions.

I've been around The Knot, The Nest, and The Bump for years on either this user name or the one I used before I got married, though I haven't been remotely active since 2011 when my first BMB bailed for Facebook, at which point I've been active there since. This board is still slow. Eventually dual posts will weed themselves out. You don't need to advise me on what will annoy me or not. I completely understand what everyone has explained and still hold my position on the matter.

But multiple kindly asking to condense can be construed as harassing, though no one called it, or is calling it, that, nor has anyone voiced that feeling. It's just a fact.

@AggieKim I've been here since January and I've been an active member of TB this board is slow right now because we are only into the first weeks of Feb Due dates. We will have more users joining and if we don't say anything it will get out of control. I've seen it happen. I'm not just talking out my butt. I got flack for making a simple, polite request to make an effort to keep it from happening in the future and people are getting butthurt because they feel like they should each get their own thread about the same topic and screw anyone who says they should search for an answer before they post so that important topics don't end up sinking in the flood of symptom threads or baby name threads. You haven't been active here so I wouldn't expect you to have seen it. Most of the members of this bmb are new as well but a few of us have come from ttgp and have also been on other bmbs in the past. We speak from experience and we are trying to curb known problems before they become overwhelming. No one is harassing anyone. We are actually trying to make things better for everyone. Sorry if you can't see the logic in it but we aren't going to shut up just because someone doesn't like what we said.

I've never been part of a community like this and I've never posted on anything before. This makes it so much more scarier! (Should I be studying board etiquette somewhere ?)
And shouldn't this be to support each other, be positive and be excited that we are going to be moms?

To respond to original post: haven't really thought about it yet. Thinking we will wait until we know if boy/girl

I agree with you @AggieKim. And welcome to the Bump. 8-| (Not you specifically, obviously, just in general). There will be multiple threads, and there will be board police who think they can control the topics. If you ignore duplicates, they die. If you continually harp on about why she shouldn't have started the topic in the first place (and I agree it was different enough that it wasn't worth the multiple mentions), it stays at the top. You know what's more annoying than fast moving boards and newbies repeating questions? Regs constantly yelling at newbies and attempting to control where and what they post. I'm not saying we're at this point yet or that anyone in this thread was doing that, I've just seen it happen on multiple boards and it gets old fast. I'm sure sooner or later we'll have a "PLEASE USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" person, too. Yeah, yeah, important info, stuff has already been said, board etiquette... it's too early in our pregnancies to start all that crap now, isn't it?? haha

I really, really hope F16 can be kinder than previous BMBs, who delight in driving away newbies for daring not to read the pinned post stating our 6,000 rules of etiquette. We can be better, guys!

And now I'm laughing at myself because there's a .001% chance of that happening.

Hey I'm going to chime in here- we all have made "mistakes" posting at one point or another, and that's totally fine. However, there are certain things that can help keep boards efficient, effective, and supportive. The guidelines for the boards are helpful, and I definitely decided to join TB because I liked the guidelines and decided it was a good place for me. I want to participate in as much as possible, and to learn about the other wonderful women on this board, also! One way to do that is to ensure that it's easy to "keep up" on what's going on. I definitely don't have unlimited time to go to multiple threads about the same thing (however I do see the confusion in this instance), and really didn't want to miss what anyone was saying.

So, on that note, I do hope we can try to condense threads in the future, AND I see that this is a board with people who are new to TB completely AND who have been around for a while from TTC/TTGP so we are maybe more familiar with the guidelines.

I do hope it's ok to give and get some feedback, too! This community is big on honesty, and I value that. It's nothing personal, just a "hey this is how TB works!".

I hope we can all feel welcome! That being said, I definitely would like to encourage all of us to use the search function and to try not to duplicate threads in the future.

Oh, and OP! I love the name Ryan for a girl. I have a name that can be male or female and I really like it!

Boy is a bit harder. So far we like:
Harrison
Ford
Beckett
Mason

And the boy middle name will be either James or Edward after my dad. Whichever sounds best with the first name we decide on.

Edit: I just noticed I have Harrison and Ford back to back so it's Harrison Ford! Lol

My husband and I are set on Ezekial Thomas if we have a boy and we will call him Zeke. Girl names are still more in the air. Right now I'm pushing Emry Rose but DH also likes Harlee Marie and we both kind of like Emalyn Marie as well.

Emerson Paige is our number one for a girl but I am also loving Caroline. Our last name is Conner and I think Caroline Conner is cute and classy.

Everett James or Elliott Patrick for boy names.

We have been planning this since we got married haha. Im sure it may change though!
