September 2015 Moms

How much have you gotten done?

So it occurred to me this evening that I will potentially be having the baby in August (due September 9th) which is fine but then I realized that August is only two months away!!! Holy crap, is it really going by this fast?

What kind of freaked me out about that is how very little I've actually gotten done. I've done a few DIY decor projects for the nursery and we have some clothes and diapers stocked up but that's pretty much all. I did get our crib and nursery furniture ordered, it should be here in a week or two but inevitably it will sit in his nursery in pieces for at least 2 weeks before we put it together because I know us when it comes to getting house stuff done.

I can't be the only one who's putting everything off. What do you guys have done? When do you plan on having the nursery ready? Am I the only one freaking out that we are 2 months away from August which means full term babies for those of us due in early September?

Re: How much have you gotten done?

  • I'm not due until the end of September but I'm freaking out too lol. We haven't done much and every time I bring up buying something other then clothes or little things everyone freaks out and tells me to wait for the baby shower and then see what I still need except that isnt until August so I feel like incredibly unprepared right now. We don't even have the crib yet. I've been trying to do other things like getting recipes together for frozen meals, stocking up on household items, some sewing. I hoping to finish things very quickly after the baby shower so I keep buying giftcards to my registry stores so that I'm ready to buy everything else with my registry completion coupons.

  • I'm due Sep 2 so that's three months away. Even if baby is a week or so early it's still much closer to three months than two, so I feel like there is plenty of time. Not everything has to be done before baby comes either. Our baby won't even be using the nursery for several months, he will stay in the master with us to begin with so I'm contemplating not even buying a crib until then unless I see one on sale. Why set it up and create more work for myself (dusting crib slats is not fun!)) if it's not being used?

This is my fourth so I'm pretty relaxed about everything. I'm not preparing meals ahead or stocking up on things because I had no problems keeping the household running with the first three - and if I could do it with an 18 month old, newborn twins and a demanding full time job, then this time should be cake. Famous last words, lol? I welcomed the normal-ness of making dinner and running errands. With my first it took a good couple of weeks to heal from tearing, but that's when online ordering (groceries etc.) has a place.

My biggest concern is the timing, my older three start school at the end of August so that's always a bit of a challenging transition time, fall sports are just starting up and I'm the President of the PTO and I have events i'm running that first week of school plus a major fundraising event I'm heading up for early October. I also worry about going into labor at an inconvenient time as we have no family within thousands of miles. DH might not be able to be at the hospital for the birth until he can secure care for our other three. But it will all work out somehow...

  • Due September 6th and I have done nothing. This is my third, but we are in a new house so we need to paint the nursery and get everything out of the attic and assembled. It will all happen though, I know it will.
  • I'm due sept 9th as well! I'm very much a planner, which is why I'm having my shower on June 28th. That way I have plenty of time to order and receive whatever else I may need after the shower. I do have the crib and dresser/changing table put together. Though no mattress. I'm hand making the nursery decorations, so it's slow going. But hoping to get that in gear shortly!
  • We had to order our glider which takes 8-10 weeks. And we don't want to arrange the furniture/decorate until it is there. But we have the crib and changing table. Just waiting on my shower at the end of July and then we will finish up. I figure we have the essentials and if we need to get a few things after the birth there is always amazon!
  • I'm due Sept 1 and to keep myself from going crazy I keep thinking 3 more months, I've got 3 more months. I am not worrying until after the shower at the end of the month. I know after the shower I will NEED things done and not just want them done. I have picked a pediatrician and have to call back later this month to see when the office group new parent meeting is. I got my breast pump in the mail two weeks ago from the insurance company, the nursery is more than half way painted (we put up chair rail, painted trim and painted under chair rail all that's left is to paint the upper part) and I have a list of day cares I need to call today. Other than filling that nursery after the end of the month I feel pretty ok but in the back of my head I feel a nagging gotta buy things feeling. I stalk my baby registry to keep from purchasing things. When I see that someone has bought something its almost like I did. I know I sound manic... lol
  • I'm due Sept 7th and being induced early due to high risk. So I know I'm having baby girl mid August. And yes it seems so close and I have nothing done. I have half the room painted with a coat of primer but that's where I stopped. I have a crib and dresser from my 7 yr old but no clothes or anything. I'm thinking shopping spree in July sounds good. Plus being in the south, going to stores will keep me busy in the heat. :)
  • In the beginning my boyfriend and I went a little crazy. So far, I have bought a pack n play, a stroller/car seat combo, some bottles, a mamaroo, a box of wipes, and a good amount of clothes. I mainly am buying so much because my shower is going to be small and I know a few people can't afford to get anything too big. There's still lots they can get though! My parents bought us the crib/change table and it should be here by Friday. This weekend we will be buying the mattress and setting it up. After that, we plan on waiting until after my shower in July to continue shopping.
  • I am starting to get very nervous.  I have bought a crib, which is currently sitting in my living room.  Other than that, I have done nothing.  I still need to move and rearrange other furniture out of the nursery so that I have room for the crib and the baby. I work full time and by the time I get home my feet and legs are so swollen and I am so tired, I can barely make dinner before I climb my tired self into bed and watch TV til I fall asleep.  I know that I'm probably not going to get any less tired before the baby.  I need to get started!!!   :)
  • We had our shower this last weekend with my family out of state, so baby got a lot of goodies (it was early, but the only time it worked before flying is off limits). We are moving next week and then should be able to get more set up. I plan on spending a good chunk of my summer (I'm a teacher) hunting for items in consignment shops and at garage sales to fill in for what we don't have. At this point, the only thing I need brand new is a car seat. Grandma #1 is getting the crib. Grandma #2 is getting him a stroller.

My shower was an overwhelming blessing and I got to see a lot of people who are very important to me. It also reminded me that the stuff baby will happen as it needs to. He's got mountains of love in this world already!
  • Just about three months away withe being due on September 1st and I'm really surprised with everything that we've gotten done. Our families threw us a surprise baby shower a few weeks ago and got us most of the big stuff like the crib, the glider, and the dresser/changer. Just last weekend, we got those put together. Also we got the crib/stroller secondhand sitting in the closet for now. I've gotten the number of a pediatrician but I don't know how to go about going ahead and officially selecting them. I feel like there's so much still to do, but people keep telling me to sit tight and just wait another month or so to get more stuff.
  • Not a lot lol. Got a few things sorted, just bits and pieces really. I can feel my nesting instict starting to kick in as I'm clearing out wardrobes, throwing out old stuff as I know how full the house will be once this one arrives.

    It's just so exhausting...
  • @mybabynumber2 I have been doing that too! We've been organizing closets etc here! More so than prepping for baby, just getting our house finally unpacked and organized from moving...last year!
  • You're all way ahead of me. I'm due middle of September with our first and I still haven't cleaned out what will be the babies room. Hopefully this week. I've put off buying furniture until I would have somewhere to put it but realize if I don't get it ordered soon it may not get here before she does. Oh well. She will be in our room for awhile anyway and everything works out in the end, right? (I'm trying to just stay calm and not panic...)

I have diapers from previous daughter (cloth), clothes someone gave me, a small dresser, SIL is giving me back my infant seat that she borrowed and I'm getting my cradle swing and bouncer back from our church nursery (I'm the only one who uses the nursery as I'm the only one young enough with kids so I took my baby gear over there lol).

Baby will sleep with us so the only thing I really want to do before she gets here is finish our room. One wall was paneled by previous owners so we want to tear that down and Sheetrock and then paint. Just waiting on our freaking tax return (been waiting over 60 days!!!).

  • I'm due later, September 20th. But I completely understand the feeling that nothing is done. 1m 24 weeks now and we have 3 bedrooms to paint, they better be done by the time I'm 30 weeks. As far as the nursery not being completed, I'm not really overwhelmed except for the painting part. I think putting furniture together and decorating is fun and easy so I don't feel much pressure there. But all of the nursery stuff is on my registry so I don't want to buy anything in case someone else will buy it for me. I don't want to be waiting until the last minute either, it still needs to be done before the baby is born lol
  • We're not really doing anything. I still need to make a ring sling, but that'll take $25 and one day... All baby needs is mama, and some diapers. We'll get things taken care of as needed. No big deal :)
I stressed last time (a bit)... Not this time. :)
  • I'm due September 3rd and I've done nothing. However, we are moving tomorrow so I've been kind of waiting for that. Once we're in our house I think things will start to come together. I think it's actually easier to do things in the last couple of months. You have a better idea of what you need and it just feels a little more real.
  • Woo! I was going to freak out if everyone said they had almost everything done haha. I know I have more than 3 months until the due date but I've been counting in weeks for so long that when I put it into months it doesn't seem like so far away. My best friend is going to be having her baby any day now and she is still 2 weeks away from her due date so that kind of put things into perspective for me that.. hey.. due dates are just am estimate, he could be here even sooner than that!

  • I'm due Sept 2, and we just finished moving! all the baby stuff is in the nursery and the furniture is set up (except the crib, which my aunt is buying), BUT there are a bunch of boxes from other parts of the house sitting in there too until I find room for them elsewhere, haha. we are in a mountain of boxes right now!! but yeah, other than that... nursery didn't need repainted and hubby put up some wall stickers, so it's pretty much good to go.

I bought clothes already, I'm picky and I'd rather not ask people to spend $10+ per outfit when I can get a whole bag at a garage sale for pennies a piece. and I'm interviewing a pediatrician today! about the only thing I have left is to set up the crib when it gets here and pack my hospital bag. but I'm very impatient and have probably done most things before I needed :)

@Yiggle09 you made me think to check my registry, and YAY someone bought stuff!! the car seat and high chair! that makes me incredibly happy. I'm having two showers and I know my family is generous, but I had this horrible fear no one would buy anything and I would have to get it all the week before the baby comes!
  • We have done almost nothing. I have daycare and baby's health insurance lined up and that's pretty much it. We have a handful of outfits, but everyone keeps telling me not to buy anything till after my showers. It's REALLY hard to wait since my showers aren't until end of July and early August. We are moving in just under two weeks so after we get into our new place I will be in full on nesting/baby mode and ready to get stuff done! We aren't doing a nursery and things are staying pretty low key so I don't anticipate having a crazy amount of stuff to do. I'm not stressed about it, just anxious to be in the space we will bring baby home to and have it all set up and ready :)
    image
  • OP I feel the exact same way! I'm due early September, and could easily have an Aug baby. We have only put in a closet orginization system and cleared the room. We haven't bought anything. I'm freaking!
  • I have most things I really need right away except diapers but everything is still sitting in boxes because the army is taking their damn time getting us orders so I still potentially have an international move ahead of me!
    image
  • I haven't done a damn thing lmao I brought all my baby shower gifts from California to Kansas and brought them in the babies room. But I'm not really worried since I won't be in this house for long after baby is born and won't be decorating. The struggle will be having to set up everything once I move back to Kansas in a year and have to do it all with baby around lol
  • It's okay, @shelbydd , I've gotten NOTHING done. No stock up on supplies, only 2 onsies (and they were gifts..) nothin'... I'm due late sept, but who knows what could happen, and I'm a prepper, so I'm freaking out a lot a bit. It's just that we're in the middle of packing our entire house up, and moving 80 miles away, but it's still very much up in the air so idk what I should be doing. Aaahhhhh!!! We're so close, and that WOULD have been a relief hearing 2 months ago, but now it's like "woah, woah..slow down bebe.. mommy needs to get you a bed..and diapers...and clothes...and...oh shit..."
  • I am VERY much a planner/organizer so I've been working on stuff pretty much since I found out I was expecting :-p Now in my defense, this is my 2nd child (also 2nd son) so I already had pretty much everything left over from when my DS1 was born. DS2's nursery is almost done. Just painted last week and all furniture is set up and ready. However, I still think you ladies have time to get all of your stuff done :)
  • Absolutely nothing. Lol I'm just going to wait till after my shower to do stuff. Once I know what I have I can go from here this is my 2nd baby so I'm more chill this time around. Inward pretty neurotic the 1st time.
  • I'm not due until September 23rd, but we just found out that we might be moving mid July (fingers crossed that the applications go through all right).  My sister bought us the pack'n'play we had planned to use as the crib for the first few months, since we don't have space for a nursery in the place we're at now. The new place has 2 bedrooms and is cheaper than where we're at now, so I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that we get it! I have all the clothes we need, as well as a dresser and a couch for the nursery. We're planning on getting a changing table topper for the dresser since it's the perfect height, but our baby showers aren't until end of July most likely, so we're holding off on small stuff like that. Boyfriend's mom is probably going to buy us a crib. We had initially turned down the offer since we don't have space right now, so she'll be pretty stoked if we do get to move. His aunt reserved the travel system on our registry but she just lost her husband so we're prepared to buy it ourselves if it comes down to it. My mom is buying whatever doesn't get purchased off of our registry. It still feels like we haven't done anything for baby, but I know it'll all come together in time. I just want to start setting everything up right now!
  • We have gotten a few things done, but I feel like I am falling behind and getting stressed! My shower isn't until mid August so I feel like I shouldn't get anything but I don't want to wait that long to get things set up. We picked out our crib and my MIL said that she would order it this week and even though it's only Tuesday I am getting impatient. I hope that she follows through, she didn't with some of our wedding stuff so that is making me panic a little.

I have been trying to set things that have to be done by a specific date. I planed to complete the registry this weekend and also work on my labor music list. Also yesterday my goal was to wash all the used clothes we got from a friend and sort them. I did all these things and it feels good to check them off. I got married almost 4 years ago and it feels like getting ready for that. There was this period where nothing needed to be done and then all of a sudden the event was so close and a million things needed to be worked on. I know that I'll get there and baby doesn't need all this stuff. I just need to get started on a few more things. We'll all get there.

  • I believe my little guy will be here in August too, I freak out ateast once a day and think "should I be shopping?? What do I need?" I went to babies r us yesterday (which has huge sales all of June FYI) to print out my registry to make sure I've checked everything off. Well I was nowhere near done and spent the rest of my night adding what I needed. What I do currently have, which I thought was a lot..really isn't when I saw the list.

I have his crib, but no mattress or bedding
Changing table, but no changing pad
    A dresser
    About 49 onesies/outfits N-12M
    Few pants
    Socks
    Hats
    Too many bibs
    A few burp clothes/receiving blankets
    Baby shoes
    Jogging stroller w/ car seat
    Diaper bag

But what is killing me is not having any warm clothing yet!!
  • NOTHING. ;) We have the carseat and a crib, and a few clothes. But I'm not stressing yet. We're hoping to move before baby so I hope to get settled and then finish getting ready.
  • I've been afraid to read this thread because I've got nothing ready :(( I have a good selection of clothes for the first year because that's the only thing I've really had space to stock up on. We're moving at the end of this month (or next, we haven't found a place yet even, cue panic attack!!) so we didn't want to buy a bunch of things into after we're settled. The timing is making me so claustrophobic!!
  • I'm due 9/15 and we're still moving everything out of my office to turn it into a nursery. I'm not looking forward to removing wallpaper and painting the room! I've been trying to de-clutter the house and have been donating things I don't need anymore. As far as baby stuff, we've bought a stroller system, nursery rug, up&up free+clear laundry detergent, and received some baby clothes from friends. I had a scare a few weeks ago so ended up packing my hospital bag. I feel
  • I'm due September 1st but pretty sure baby won't come earlier, my last kid had to be induced for staying in past due date. I had this same revelation a couple of weeks ago and started really getting everything together. I'm also in the process of renovating my whole house, room by room, so it's a little hectic around here but I should be finished by mid July so I'm not sweating it too much. I pretty much have everything needed for baby except the crib which I'm waiting to buy at be end of the month.

I'm on a roll recently. I'm due September 23rd and just want to get things in order asap. I fear being very hot and very pregnant will just cause me to feel too flustered. I would rather just get things done while I have the energy. I've registered, shower invites go out at the end of this week. Ordered crib, have bedding, ordered bassinet. Now it's just reorganization of my house to make room for more stuff. I'm looking at a used Glider tomorrow. We are painting at the end of the month and refurbishing a dresser and night stand for the nursery furniture. I for one just think it's better to do what you want now. Definitely limit on decor and essentials for the shower but I couldn't resist the deals I got on my bedding and a few other things.
  • Not much! This is our second dd so we have all of the gear we will need. We decided to give dd#1 a big girl room and put dd#2 into the nursery we already have so its really just a matter of getting the big girl room ready. And for me to be ready for dd#1 to BE a big girl...
  • I'm waiting until the shower on July 18th to freak out about getting things done. We have a queen sized bed in the baby's room that needs to go, so no space to set up crib but we need to paint and hang curtains. So much to do! Ugh
  • I'm due Sept 23 and just have the crib, no mattress yet either! I feel so unprepared and overwhelmed with all of the things I need to get still! I know we'll have it all done before our baby girl arrives but time is going by so quickly, I feel like I'll be in a rush to get things. We aren't having a baby shower, so we're the ones buying everything( except maybe for a few small gifts from close family) so we're going to try and buy something everyweek. Next item I want is the car seat and stroller :) we are going to wait until my 32 week ultrasound to buy clothes, I want to get a better idea of her size, since she's slightly on the larger side(1lb and 4 oz at 22 weeks).

I'm do September 15. We got a few things done. Painting the room was the hardest part I think and that is out of the way. We will have to disassemble the dinning room table because we no longer have a dinning room lol. Move some chairs to MIL house and throw out a really heavy computer cabinet (it came with the house and we never used it)
We also got a bassinet so if anything happens early we will have a place ready for the baby. Our clothes dresser will come in August I hope. It's on back order.
We hope to have a babyQ/baby shower sometime (don't have a date yet) and we will see what people will get us. Also, I am a big fan of DIY stuff and my Pinterest is filled with ideas.
Looks like I got my beep together.... But I really don't. Shish.
  • I'm due September 2nd with baby number three. No nursery for this little man. He's going to get a corner in our bedroom until he's sleeping through the night. Then he'll either share a room with his big brother or hopefully we will have found a 4 bedroom house by then! Scored a gorgeous, brand new crib, changing table, dresser and bookcase from a friend for $300. The crib is in pieces in the living room where its been since April, which is driving me bonkers to look at each day. Dresser and changing table are in my daughters room, since she has the most space. Gotta figure out how to make everything work/fit in a functional manner. Thankfully we have a few more months to do that.
