What type of baby laundry detergent is best?

I got some hand me down clothes and would like to wash them and put them away. Went to the store and most brands carry a baby detergent version. Anyone have a recommendation on the best kind to buy?

Re: What type of baby laundry detergent is best?

  • Is it necessary to use a baby detergent?
  • When my twins were in the NICU all the nurses told us not to waste money on special baby laundry detergent and just use one that is geared towards sensitive skin. We now make our own laundry detergent. I like knowing exactly what's in it and plus it's cheaper! There are tons of recipes on Pinterest.
  • I'm stocking back up on all free and clear
  • I am allergic to tide products and dreft, so I use free and clear versions of other brands and will stick with that when the baby arrives.

I have very sensitive skin and have to use hypoallergenic everything. I use All Free and Clear for my clothes and plan on using it for the babies clothes as well. As PP'S have said, buying baby specific detergent is a waste of money and you can really use anything that's free of dyes and fragrances.
  • I guess I really didn't even think of doing one that was just free of dyes and fragrances. Of course that makes sense and my pocket book will appreciate it. Thanks for all the answers.
  • My son and I have sensitive skin, I wash all his stuff in baby ivory ! Never had any issues with it !'
  • I use Ecos soap. It's a natural one from Costco. We used All Free and Clear before I found it and loved that too. Downy came out with a free and clear fabric softener a couple years back and it was so nice to use Downy again. My daughter has never had issues with the laundry.

  • I plan on just getting All free and clear, dreft is way too expensive in my opinion.

I was just going to start a new thread on this, but what do you put in your homemade? I've been making my own for a few years now and wanted some advice from people who make their own on what mixture they use with a baby (I'm going to make a couple batches before baby is born so I won't have to do it for awhile.)
  • https://greatoakcircle.com/homemade-laundry-detergent I use a super basic recipe and my boys never had issues. We use it on everything except dressy items.
  • I developed an allergy to our detergent when I was in high school, and I've been using Arm & Hammer for sensitive skin ever since. I have used it on all of DD's clothes and we haven't had any issues with her, so I'll do the same with this LO!

  • @shannonboettcher Awesome, that is what I use now. I did invest on some Dr Bronners castile soap unscented baby to replace the fels naptha.
