HEALTHY.
I think some people have forgotten what anatomy scans are primarily for. To check that everything is okay with baby's development, to check the brain is functioning as it should, to check the heart has all the chambers it needs, to check the baby's bladder, lungs, face, limbs.
There's a small bonus where you can find out the sex of the child if you want to. But it's just that... A bonus. Being pregnant and imagining your baby is exciting, I'm not trying to squash anyone's excitement. It just seems to be a little obsessive at the moment on this board. If the baby isn't in a good position, they may not even be able to tell you. I wonder what women thought about before they could tell via ultrasound. Or before there were ultrasounds full stop! We are extremely lucky that we can check up on these growing babies to see if they're okay.
All good things come to those who wait ladies :-)
Re: IM SO EXCITED TO FIND OUT IF MY BABY IS...
I loved seeing all the baby's parts last time. It's really amazing. The finding out the sex part is just a bonus.
Please ladies keep in mind the health of your baby is the prime purpose of an anatomy scan. It isn't solely for finding out the sex of your child. That's an added bonus! Focus on the important things!
Yes, to follow this up. Be happy with your healthy baby. You have no way of Controlling the sex of your child, it is a 50/50 chance. Just because you have been "picturing a girl", is not a justification for being disappointed when told you are having a healthy boy.
you are blessed to be carring a healthy baby, so let's keep this in perspective.
The tech is not allowed to tell us anything. They will point out all the organs and the sex and that's it. It then goes to a doctor to read it and at my next appointment my midwife will have those results.
That's pretty standard.
However, he came back as potentially having a partial chromosome deletion, which could change everything.
My anatomy scan will check for heart and palate defects, but won't show any mental defects obviously. And he may not even have it! It's only a 5 percent chance.
But long story short, get over obsessing how your child is going to freaking pee. I get that it's exciting. But you SHOULD be more concerned about the health of your child. I'd trade knowing boy or girl in a heartbeat if I could just make sure he was 100 percent healthy. (but we are holding off on an amnio for now)
The results will generally then be read and examined by a perinatologist. Thankfully, my practice has the perinatologist go over it with you right there at the appt.
Yes I'm excited to POTENTIALLY find out what I'm having but I'm even more excited to see how baby is growing and developing. I'm just excited to look at the screen and see my child. That's all I want.
Even after normal NIPT results, and favorable nt scan/blood results I find myself preoccupied with something being wrong. We've suffered losses though, including one due to Turner syndrome. I am sure that plays into my obsession with our upcoming anatomy scan and finding out if things still look good.
I am 0 for 2 when it comes to normal results from the anatomy scan. All I can think of wanting to hear from the doc is "all is perfect."

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

I adore her smile,
I cherish her hugs,
I admire her heart.
But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.
