A coworker named his son Jax and when I first heard it I thought, poor kid, but he's adorable and I don't even think it anymore, so if your kid can rock it then go with it! Who cares what any one else thinks? I do agree with pp about a traditional middle name though to be able to use J. Other name if he chooses to
Preeetty sure I didn't whine once about the opinions I received here OR on the BNB. I just thought I'd ask my group also. Thanks For all the input, EVERYONE!
We decided on Camden for our baby boy. A couple people have said they hate it but I dont give a shit because I love it and he's my kid. The hubby less Cam as a nick name.
Hopefully not after Camden, NJ, ranked one of the most dangerous cities in the US.
No Camden, Maine where baby was conceived. It's a beautiful and charming little art town about an hour out of Portland. We hope to retire in Maine one day.

I like Jax as a nickname, but I agree with everyone who has recommended a formal name like Jackson and just calling him Jax. I may be biased though as I've worked in schools and have seen the millions of variations there can be only any given name's spelling.
All I will say is the SOA reference would be a reason NOT to name your son that... If you watched the show, especially the ending you would not want that to be the REASON for naming your son jax... OP I know that you did not reference it but it came up a few times (yes he is hot but not a terribly good person or legacy...) so I felt like adding that...
I agree with what pp said--asking any board is going to give you a pretty good indication of what people will actually think IRL even if they tell you the name is cute. To many people (including myself, if we're being honest), made up names indicate a lack of education and appreciation for language and are a major turn off. It's a fact that people with traditional (i.e. real) names get hired more often and hold higher ranking positions. Your kid does not need a made up name to be special and standing out because your name is unique is not really a good thing based on statistics.
Please give him a real full adult name and just immediately start calling him Jax as a nickname so everyone follows suit? There have been dozens of studies at this point showing how dramatic an effect a name can have on college and job applications and just being taken seriously in general professional life. A couple of lawyers I know go by their middle names for that reason but it's a pain in the ass to deal with paperwork when you start going by first initial (period) middle name.
Fwiw, you DO have 100% control over what people call your child - so don't let that prevent you from giving him a real name. We have a John who goes by Jack. He has been Jack every day of his life and most people don't even know his real name is John. (And yes, Jack is a real nickname for John.)
I love it. Be original. I do really like the idea of giving him a "normal" middle name in case he hates it, but he won't. There are so many names out there now that are way more unusual then that.
I'm not a fan. As PP have said, Jax makes me think of SOA, but I disagree that it's a good thing. You don't want to name your babe after a passing fad. (Like naming your daughter Madonna in the 80s kind of thing.) Might not be the case, but it's the impression I got from it. Also, it sounds incomplete to me. My husband was big on Kai but it just sounded wrong, I felt like people would ask him "Kai, what's your actual name?" So to me, Kai is in the same category as Jax. I personally love Jackson. It sounds way stronger and burly than Jax. Jax sounds like a punk. Hahaha Good luck! Edited because it's too early to spell correctly.

@scoffey0615 - being born and bred in Dublin I totally approve of Jameson for a boy.. But I went to college with a girl named Jameson and that was a little weird!
@megron, a girl at work said she would totally name her daughter Jameson. I was like uhh, no thanks! My husband wanted an Irish name so Jameson was the obvious choice!
Haha @jamieswifeyforlifey One if the two lawyers I mentioned above is Jay. Always gets the same question... Oh what is that short for? So now his official title is J. Andrew Lastname
My partner wanted to name our daughter something Irish because I am from Ireland, but he chose Aoife (said like E-fa).. While it's common in Ireland we live in the United States and I didn't want her to have her named constantly slaughtered so we settled on the American version, Eva.. Which happens to be my grandmum's name so it all worked out.
To each his own with called a girl Jameson but like.. Break it up -James, the name of a boy.. Son- what you call your boy child.. Not really my idea of a girls name :-p
Haha! And I love Eva, if we had a girl I want to name here Evelyn. I honestly don't know if my husband has any Irish in him but he's dead set on an Irish name. It's to the point when we were decorating for christmas, he was playing Celtic Christmas music...
Im due in june and my son is being called Jax it is a wonderful name! His name will be Jaxon but he will never be called that, always Jax.. i agree it is a strong sounding name i cant see why people have such bad opinions on it!
Ok, maybe you guys are all too classy and watch SOA but not Vanderpump Rules. But the sluttiest, nastiest dude ever is on Vanderpump Rules and his name is JAX. Sorrynotsorry for slutshaming him. He's gross.

I don't want to use her real name(s), but I went to school with a girl whose legal first name was the equivalent of Jennaye and changed it to Jennifer/Jenn before she became a lawyer. She had to know that some people weren't going to take her seriously with a name spelled like that. I have no problem with weird or cutesy nicknames, but it's better to start the kids out with relatively normal names even if they only get called by their real name on the first day of school every year. Jax is fine as a nickname.

I asked a name board about a last name quandary me and hubby were having and mostly got tore up (there was some supportive / constructive ideas but mostly no). But the experience helped me to solidify my thoughts and we're proceeding as planned. If you like it, then go for it. That's how I feel. Just run the whole name (first, middle, last) thru your mind a bunch of times to make sure it works all together. And yes, the idea of having a middle name that Jax can use instead of Jax, if he doesn't like Jax, I feel is a courtesy to Jax.
I personally wouldn't call my Child Jax but that's just because I played a lot of games growing up and the only Jax's I know are Jax from Mortal Kombat and Jax from Jax and Daxter
I like the name jaxon and his nn could be jax. However, for his future in adulthood... Jaxon would look so much better than jax on job applications... College diplomas.... Ect.. Cute nickname but not for first name.

I love me some vanderpump rules! It's my guilty pleasure! And I like the name Jax.
Name the baby what you like, aslong as its not outrageous who cares. On the baby name board someone asked about a name 'Wolfgang' and everyone said they loved it. I know I prefair jax over that anyday.

Lol you're right, she did ask. My opinion is ... I don't like Jax, it reminds me of a dogs name or a wrestler.

Cute nickname but not for first name.
There's nothing to informal about jax, look at some of the names kids growing up these days have, fruit names are not acceptable for children's names.
