DIY/Crafters Project Plans?

I just bought a bunch of cute fabric from fabric.com and I can't wait to start my projects.  I haven't completely decided what I am all going to do, but that is what Pintrest is for!  Anyone else planning baby projects?  Have some cute ideas??

Re: DIY/Crafters Project Plans?

  • Yes! I love crafts! I have two Pinterest boards dedicated to baby projects :)

My first project is to crochet a baby blanket!

It's not entirely baby related, but I was searching for a sofa bed/futon option for my front office room. My co-worker suggested building a day bed out of pallets!

  • @alicemarydunn I love that. Do you have a pattern or are you winging it?
  • I wish I had time to dedicate to crafting. My MIL, on the other hand, loves to crochet blankets for all the grandkids so she's excited to know if it's finally a boy so she can incorporate pieces of my husband's baby blanket.

I'm planning to do several crib size quilts, one for the actual crib and others for fun. I've made many 81 piece square quilts for friend's babies so I'm excited finally make some for my own baby :) I'm also going to do some pacifier clips and embellished burp rags too. Need to wait to do a lot until I know the sex....but I am getting antsy so I already got fabric to do one blanket gender neutral.

I am just getting into diy and my first project is a fabric padded headboard for my queen bed. My husband always bumps his head or punches the wall on accident.
I have everything I need to start but I need to find a type of power saw to cut the top corners of the plywood into a small design. I'm super excited to start but no idea how I'll get the corners done since we don't own a power saw...
    :)
  • @Beckah31 a little bit of both. Want details? I can inbox you the pattern I'm using and the customization I'm doing.
  • I am going to crochet a baby blanket. Going to pick up yarn today. I don't know what I am having yet so I will get neutral colors. I also want to make some burp cloths. I have been searching pinterest for fun stuff to do for baby.
  • I picked up fabric from Hobby Lobby, my new favorite store!!!! I chose gray for both sides and when we fine out I'm going to monogram and then line the edges with pink or blue. Our nursery is already painted a sage green.....I redid the guest room last year and loved the color so I'm not changing the walls just adding a crib and accessories :D
Does anyone else baby's room already painted??
  • I'll make artwork for the walls. I'm super into decorating and already have our gender neutral nursery planned out. I will be painting a dresser and probably a couple other things. Here is some art I made for a friend's nursery!
  • I found some really easy patterns for belly bands and I'm going to try them out when I get some free time this week!
  • @kerobins1 where did you find the pattern??? I've looked at target for them and those just didn't look comfy
  • @alicemarydunn I would love the pattern!! Thank you so much. :)

I'm a scrapbooker and prefer doing pocket pages (ala Becky Higgins Project Life style). I'm on my 4th year of albums. In my 2015 album, I've been dedicating spreads to every few weeks of the pregnancy and just incorporating it into my regular spreads. I am only cataloging weeks of which something noteworthy or milestone like occurs (ultrasound photos, heartbeat heard, changes in symptoms, etc). Since the baby will be born in 2015, I decided against making a separate album, especially since I already have a wedding/ honeymoon album separate for the year.

Mine is...well, it is in progress. I started years ago when i was pregnant, lost that baby and it was my 5th loss and with it i lost a lot of motivation and steam so i never finished the room. No, that being said...hehehe...i am finishing it and have done a lot to the room that goes with the painting I started and i am not changing it. In fact, i don't want to find out the sex of the baby because i do not want to be tempted to change it.
It is yellow and gree, hand painted harlequin pattern on the wall.
  • We bought a new house and move in mid-July. I will start some projects after we move and find out the sex of the baby. Probably just wall art and maybe refinish an old dresser to make it a changing table. The new house has a large garage with a wood working area that I hope to utilize!
  • @FaithHopeMiracle that sounds so pretty! I love grey and yellow. DH took me to babies r us yesterday, Girl! Let me tell you!!!! They have some of the cutest blankets in grey. I found cream but couldn't find yellow. If you have a hobby lobby by you, check out their fabric department. Cute stuff and it was on sale :D I also went to Kohl's and found some winter sleepers dirt cheep. They were boy and DH said what if it's a girl and I told him I'll just out big ass bows in her hair lol
  • first off... I finally figured out how to use the search function properly! Yay me!!

Secondly... I really wanted to find a thread on crafting and I am so glad I did. I want to wait until we find out the sex before I start with most of the projects but my quilt is also a pretty big project so I have started on some white, yellow and green blocks for now.

I think we should all come back here and post pics of our updated works?

I actually just saw this listing on etsy and went to hobby lobby and for the stuff and made this wreath yesterday. I'm loving it! It turned out super cute!

Ohhh I like that! Much nicer than the notes I was planning to put on our TWO doors with doorbells (ridiculous, right?) that would threaten someone's extremities if they knock or ring the doorbell.

  • This week I finished up my summer projects before going back to school next week :(
I retiled the bathroom, built a raised bed garden, and painted the dresser we're using in the baby room as a changing table! Going forward projects will be much smaller...
  • I love this board! Projects and crafts are my favorite thing...love seeing all the cool stuff you guys are doing! Hope people keep posting as we go along!!
  • I love knitting but I'm not very good at it! So I'm going to buy a plain white crib and paint it myself before the LO gets here. Making it dinosaur or pirate themed
  • Me too @erikaalzet! I made cards about how I'm feeling each week but still debating if they should go in the main album or a baby album - I normally keep everything together! I also plan to do art on the room, a mobile and maybe a crib quilt. My DS room is a craft spectacular. Go crafting! Now I just have to wait for the gender...

So with the recent baby journal/ ikea hack threads I thought I'd revive this one to see if anyone has completed any sewing/other DIY projects for baby lately??  I finished my embellished burp rags last weekend and am so happy with how they turned out!  Made a lot but I just couldn't help myself with all the pretty flowery fabrics there are out there!

I just got some of the fabric I purchased cut the other day for the baby quilt.   I bought various colors from the Coyote collection at Hawthorne Threads for the quilt, mobile, and to make a boppy cover/changing pad cover (didn't get any of the actual coyote patterns).    That website has such pretty collections it was hard to decide which one to go with!! But here's a sample of some of the fabrics: https://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/hawthorne_threads/coyote/

Where have you guys been finding fabric other than Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby?  At Hawthorne you have to buy a 1/2 yd minimum, so I did splurge a little more on fabric/spend more than I normally would with the crazy %s off at Jo-Anns or Hobby Lobby that I usually go for but I figure for fabric I have to look at every day it would be worth it if I liked it a lot.
