babys going home outfit. Sept weather

Last year we had the hottest day of the year in september. And that's when I'm due. What type of outfit should we bring baby girl home in? I don't want to have too many layers because it will likely be hot, but I also feel like she should be covered up.

  • Onsies are usually good. If it does get cold you could always add pants.

  • Typically a onesie or sleeper, you can always use a light weight receiving blanket (Aden and an anais) if it's not hot.
  • You could always take 2 outfits for the potential weather. One more summer-y and one for fall-like weather. I probably won't pick the bring home outfit until pretty close to time just because Alabama weather is so unpredictable.

  • I'm I'm Oklahoma and we have all 4 seasons in one week sometimes. I am taking my little girl home in a cute set I bought from Etsy. It's pants and a long sleeved matching shirt. Then a cute little headband. If it's really hot out for the 3 secs we go from the hospital to the air conditioned car I won't cover her up.
  • A onesie and pants plus light blanket would be fine if it's hot. Baby is going from an air conditioned hospital to an air conditioned car and then house.
  • The set that I got has both a short sleeve and a long sleeve onesie and pants. We can decided what to dress him in once it is time to go. And like other people said you're going from the hospital to the car to the house. I'll also have a blanket just in case. You can never guess what September weather will be like.

  • I plan on packing everything I could potentially need if it was chilly and can always dress him in less if its hot
  • I have the same issue lol I'm due 17tj September but I'm also classes as high risk so I may end up having my baby girl earlier and I have a few baby grows but also cardigans and a little dungarees baby grow outfit. Its hard to buy clothes for that time of year because sometimes in the UK the weather is cold and sometimes it's hot so I've got a mix of clothes lol I think a baby grow and a blanket is what she will come home in. Also have scratch mits and hats. All will be packed into a hospital bag lol x

Hey me too! :) I'm just echoing everyone else here. I'm going with an outfit with layers because September in Chicago could mean anything.
  • Regardless of the weather, you'll want baby in a sleeper with footies, or onesie with pants/socks, a cap and a light blanket (like a receiving blanket). Babies are still trying to regulate their body temperature and need to be warm. Plus, as @WDDCH said, you'll be going from the AC at the hospital to AC in your car, then inside your house/apt where it's also comfortable.
  • Is this something that I need to do....pick a specific outfit to bring baby home in? I didn't get the memo. :(

It's not completely necessary but some people take a lot of pictures on the last day in the hospital and first day at home.
  • I'm completely unsure too.  Our first son was born on this ones due date September 30 and usually it is still pretty warm here.  However, the year he was born, we went to the hospital on a bright sunny day and every one that came to visit me came in with winter coats on because it go COLD overnight.  I had brought him a sleeper and a receiving blanket and my sister had to go buy a big fuzzy blanket because it was so cold.  So for this one's outfit I have a onesie with pants and a little button up long sleeve over it.  One of those 3 piece sets from Carters.  I'll be bringing a light blanket and thick one just in case.  Now earlier in September I'd say it is more likely to be warm than not, but the Sept 30th 4 years ago was COLD.  I'd just be prepared Sept is iffy.
