Measurements all of the place!

Sorry this is long but I'm very frustrated. At 24 weeks I went in for my normal appointment and the doctor said that I was carrying the baby very low. I asked if that was a problem and she said that she was happy I wasn't dilated and everything looked okay but she wanted me to be on modified bedrest. My cervix was closed and I was not dilated. That night I had more discharge than normal so I called the next day and they wanted me to come in for another checkup. Because it was a emergency appointment I saw a different doctor and she said that my cervix was open and I was dilated .5. This meant I needed to go to labor and delivery to be assessed. After six hours of being monitored I was sent home in the ER. The doctor felt like my cervix was less than .5 and it was probably because I had a child before. Now I need to go in every week for cervix check. I have had six different doctors and each time they check me there's a completely different response. At my 26 week appointment one of the doctors told me that she was surprised that I was on my modified bedrest because my cervix is closed and everything was fine. We even talked about maybe getting off of bedrest at 32 weeks. When I went back for my 27 week appointment a different doctor said that I was 1 cm dilated which won me a trip back to the labor and delivery where I was monitored for 4 1/2 hours. This would be my fourth time going to labor and delivery for this pregnancy and I am starting to recognize doctors and nurses. They joked about why was back there again and they told to stop having the doctor's check for me. The same ER doctor that checked me at 24 weeks said that she felt no difference between the 27 week check and the 24 week check. Which leads me to my long drawn out question has anybody else gone through this ? It is such a roller coaster ride I'm just so over it! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would ask to have your cervix assessed by u/s. If you OB is concerned, you should also be evaluated by MFM.

Yes!!!!! I am so frustrated with my OB practice I want to scream!

At 31weeks I was put on Modified BR for an irritable uterus. I went back for a regular appointment three days later with the SAME doctor and he had completely forgotten who I was. When I told him I was still cramping he said that is normal for this point in my pregnancy. Then when I asked him if I needed to stay on BR he looked confused and then told me yes.
Then a week later I went in for another routine appointment and a different doc was dismissive about my cramping and told me he disagreed with his partner about me staying on bed rest and that an irritable uterus was more of an annoyance than anything else. Well, when he laid me down to measure my belly I told him I was having a contraction. When he felt it for himself he took it a lot more seriously and told me to take magnesium and drink a lot of water. To which I replied I AM on magnesium x2 the adult does and I had already drank 1.5 liters of water that day (it was 10am).
For the love of God people read the freaking chart! And get some consensus as to how to treat patients.

After that apointment I ended up going to IKEA because the doc told me not to worry and after getting home I had contratctions every 5 mins for three hours. They finally subsided but I was so angry and I felt like calling the doc that night just to ruin his evening.

I think at my next apointment I'm going to ask the doctor if they have read my chart before they even say one WORD to me!

I'm sorry Claudia! It is crazy bc the practice that is treating me is considered "high end" so why am I paying all this money. :(

MFM is a Dr that specializes in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Most high risk ladies have been referred to one, in addition to seeing their regular OB.

Your cervix is dynamic, so it really could be changing. If they're measuring vaginally, which it sounds like they are, then I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm on modified bed rest for a short cervix from a LEEP procedure and it isn't as much fun as people think it sounds.

Thanks Happywife, my doctor is high risk OB. Hopefully things will go smoother.

Thanks Jane, I understand that the cervix is dynamic but my US showed that the length was long and even the doctor commented that I still feel so long. It is just discouraging. I want to be safe, but I feel like if I had all the doctors check me, half would send me to triage, the other half would be not concerned at all. Only 12 more weeks. :0

I went to a children's hospital for something else this week and they seemed to be impressed by 2.9. ☺ They said that 1 was short. I guess it all depends on your doctor. Are you seeing a perinatalogist, a high-risk specialist? You could always make an appointment with one to get an "expert opinion" or switch to one for the remainder of your pregnancy since you're hearing so many different stories. I see one as my regular OBGYN and she's great.

P.S. I think going to IKEA would send anyone into labor, that place is massive!

Ha ha ha!!! And I got completely lost in the maze. At one point I thought I was going to have to live in one of those fake apartments!

3 is perfectly normal! I see a perinatalogist and at 2.9 she's not even concerned, just monitored it for a while once it dropped again.
