My 18 week ultrasound is coming up in beginning of June, and I'm just wondering what I can expect. (First pregnancy) they are checking for anatomy etc? My midwife says it is about An hour and my hubby won't be let in until the end. My other mommie friends said their hubbies weren't allowed in till the end either.
Will they tell me right away if something is wrong? I know with my first u/s they weren't really allowed to say anything so I assume it'll be the same deal. Will they forward the u/s to my midwife and she will let me know how everything went ? I'm so nervous they're gonna find something bad but I am trying to stay positive. I am such a worry wart
Re: 18 week ultrasound
My DH was allowed in the whole time so that seems weird to me.
They will look at all the organs, and measure the head and arms and legs. They spend quite a bit of time on each area. We found out the sex about half way through. She just went down the list of things she has to look for and that was in the middle.
I had to have a full bladder, which was uncomfortable. She let me pee half way through.
I was also allowed to have my husband in for the whole scan and I've never heard of not being able to bring your significant other in with you for the whole thing.
I've had 3 ultrasounds so far & my hubby has been there for every one.
I remember the tech would say "this is the brain, looks good". ... "Here are the fingers" and then counted there were 10. So perhaps not as detailed as a doctor but she did say what she saw and that thibgs l
Yea, so the tech basically would say what she saw and that it was looking good and everything seemed in order. So it was nice to leave there with a sense of what was going on.
I also has to come back the following week to get the heart measurements, DS would not move into a position they could get the measurements they needed his spine was always in the way. That is not uncommon so if it happens don't worry.
I think every place is different. With my 2nd one, the anatomy scan showed a soft marker for downs. The tech could not tell us, she brought in a doctor to take a look and she told us. However, the tech did tell us the sex when she saw it. She even printed out a snapshot for DD1 of the baby's profile that said, "Hi Big Sister, Shea." It is framed and still displayed in her room. She often tells DD2, "That's you when you were in mommy's tummy."
I have had 3 ultrasounds all ready, he was there for each of them. My OB said she likes meeting both parents and being able to address any concerns dad may have.
