Changing Dr at 32 weeks

So my Dr keeps pushing me that I need a c section and that I need it at 37 weeks, went for a second opinion and guess what? I don't have placenta accreta, baby is perfectly fine, the placenta is still lvl 1, my cervix is closed and there's no reason why I should be having a c section and why baby should come at 37 weeks! So I guess my Dr wants to go out for summer vacations and she doesn't want to miss the birth ($$$$), and she keeps trying to make me feel bad and scared because I refuse to have a c section. I have written proff that other doctor says I don't need it and she says "she can't tell you that you need it because she could get in legal trouble" ... First of all, she's my aunt, and wouldn't it be the other way around?! So anyway,
now I need to change doctors, the problem is that the other doctor is in the city and is a 1hr drive with no traffic, but the highway is being repaired, so if I start labor at rush hour it could take me up to 3 hours! I don't know what to do!

Re: Changing Dr at 32 weeks

  • Id switch. Hawaii has some of the worst traffic and a normal trip to the hospital should only be a 15 min drive but can easily turn into 3hrs if there is an accident. I don't have much of a choice with that but people here do it everyday.

aargh, I know I need to change doctors, it just really scares me to be so far away! I'm trying to convince my husband to rent an appartment that's like 5 minutes away. It's a building for people who travel here on business and they rent them for weeks or months, but each week costs the same as what we pay monthly here and I feel guilty!! Damn you Mexico and your ignorant doctors! There's people demanding for some kind of regulation and luckily by the end of this year c sections that are not nesesary will be consider violence against women! We've one of the highest rates with 90% of births being c sections.
  • Wow! The hospital I'm at averages around 30% and I thought that number seemed high! Glad you went for a second opinion!
  • Change doctors asap! You will have pleanty of time to get to the hospital for delivery. Just monitor and time your labor and contractions. You will not have your first contraction and then deliver the baby moments later.

@BadgerTwins+1 that's what people always say but with my son I never had painful contractions so I didn't know for sure I was in labor, when I got to the hospital I was already at 8cm and had him almost immediately! :S but I guess now I know how it feels and I'll know sooner.
  • I would definitely change. You can't be sure when your baby will come but you'll have the time you need to get to the hospital, and more importantly you won't be forced into having a c-section you don't need, and certainly don't want.
  • Change doctors!!!!

c-sections are MAJOR surgery with health risks to baby and mom!  doctors have a lot of incentives to perform c-sections; it's legally and logistically easier for them.  for you?  your doctor may cut your bladder or your intestines; you will be at an increased risk for hysterectomy later in life; and you will have to fight for a VBAC if you choose to have more children.  for baby?  s/he will have her umbilical cord cut early - diminishing her total blood supply by 30-50%; s/he won't have immediate skin-to-skin contact with you (bonding time); s/he might have more difficulty learning to breastfeed.

labor usually lasts 8+ hours.  who cares if you spend 3 of that in the car?

i would rather give birth in the car than have a c-section!  if you don't trust your doctor, then switch!!  my dr. was also threatening to give me a c-section (for his convenience) and i switched hospitals at 28 weeks.

    best of luck to you!
  • Ugg! I would totally switch. That is total bs!
