Re: Unpopular opinions

  • I am not enjoying all the pregnancy symptoms. I didn't with my first and I still don't now.

I'm also totally looking forward to a scheduled csection this time around. No shame in my game.

  • Thoughts on circumcision? Or will everything go up in flames if this topic is brought up...

I will circumcise...I have 3 boys already and they are. DH is...so we made that decision a long time ago.

I honestly never understood why people need to be so judgmental on the internet. I don't breastfeed,I do CIO,my kids aren't handed everything. But I don't judge others for how they choose to be or what they choose to do. Unless I have reason to believe there is neglect or abuse. We all have our reasons for doing things the way we do.

Oh and epidural...hell yeah. I have 4 kids now and had the epi with 2 of them...okay technically 3 but that one didn't actually kick in until I'd delivered him already.
  • My unpopular opinion is wtf is the big freak out over in and out burger..... I mean I like a good burger(not right now but that's besides the point) but literally everyone on the west coast is obsessed with it and I'm over here like I don't see what the big deal is....i could drive to Texas for some whataburger in the time it takes to get to the front of the line at in and out and I live in Oregon.... End rant

YESSS!!  I was so excited to try it and it wasn't bad but there is literally nothing special about it.  Five Guys is way better as far as chain type places go and I live in Chicago so there's some kind of burger joint on every corner with a better burger than that.
Five guys is amaaaaaaaaze I agree! Now I want fries....
It's my most favorite indulgence ! I don't eat a lot of burgers or things like that but a few times a year my DH and I go and put ourselves in a food coma here. AMAZING!!!
  • I didn't stop my life when DS was born and because I wasn't effective at pumping, I brought him everywhere with me. Which meant that if I was eating lunch and he needed to be fed, then I fed him. No matter where we were, I offered him the breast when he needed it. He is a baby, he has needs, not wants! I was lucky that he didn't mind me covering him up but as he got older, he wouldn't let me use my cover anymore. It was also around the time he stopped nursing so often during the day.

And no, my son isn't circumsized.

Also, I don't let him CIO. I still nurse him to sleep and when he wakes up, I nurse him back to sleep.

    I liked Frozen.

I like chocolate, coffee, peanut butter, mayo, mustard, ranch dressing. I do not like cheesecake.

I breastfed and formula fed. I exclusively BF for 4 months and then supplemented with formula until 6 months. We ended up doing mostly formula and just night feedings until a year. I have no problem with BF in public, once you're in public with a screaming baby, you feel differently about being "embarrased", etc. you do what Ya gotta do.

DS isn't circumcised, so if the next baby is a boy, he probably won't be either.

I don't mind if people touch my bump, it's when they rub it or linger too long that it bugs me.

We live far away from family, so my parents came to visit the night before DS was born. They were at our house sleeping when we went to the hospital, so we left them. DH went home (after me and DS were settled in our room) and picked them up & brought them to see LO. They're planning to visit again this time and will prob stay home with DS.

Oh, and I loved my epidural. I had no issues with it. We had a ton of IVs and veins bursting, and that was horrible.

  • Breastfeeding: I don't care what you do. I BF for a short period of time. I would never have BF in public, this is because I have big breast that people have stared since I was 11, I didn't want to give people another reason to stare.

Circumcision: DH, DS1 and DS2 are so this one will be too if a boy.

I also am looking forward to a scheduled c-section

And I agree I don't care how you raise your child as long as you are do what you think is best for you and your family.

    My UO:

My kids CIO. I do it at age appropriate stages and times. My 2nd was waking every 45 minutes and would take that long to be put to sleep still at 4 months. It was either CIO or our family was to implode. My kids are rock star sleepers and I have no issues with my choices.

    Same

I was just thinking of all of you that said you hate summer! You very clearly don't live in Maine! We had 131 inches of snow this winter! (Thats almost 11 FEET of snow!) I was finally able to see my front yard at the end of APRIL! I fully embrace my eyelashes not freezing when I walk to my car. So if you need a chance to appreciate your summers a little bit more, come on up to Maine from mid-october to mid-april :)

I live in Buffalo, NY. Preach.

Also, like a pp said, I'm not enjoying pregnancy either. I always said since it took me so long to get pregnant I wouldn't complain like all my friends do, but all I do so far is complain. It's only about the morning sickness but it SUCKSSSS. However, I feel like a lot of women feel this way

Agree!!! With my first, my sister and a few others were always like, "don't you just love being pregnant?!"
Me: no, actually I hate it!!!
Once the morning sickness goes away, other things come up so it doesn't really get better...
  • I don't like chocolate!

I know it's a day later and I don't go here, but this should be bannable.

    ;)
  • My UO (I'm not sure how unpopular it will be) is:

I hate getting advice from my mother. I understand she has had three children and raised us well- but, it's gotta stop. It's not the helpful advice it's the naggy I am judging everything you do advice.
I'm seriously thinking about cutting my family off for a while because none of them will stop!
And if one more person -aka- my mother makes one more snide comment about me being unwed I will break someone's face. (I'm not hormonal or anything)
  • My UO:  I actually LOVE being pregnant.  I was super blessed not to be sick with my 1st, and so far pretty good with this one.  I hope I keep that opinion - being pregnant with a 13 month old will be a lot different than without kids at all!
  • So many UO's...

I will be circumcising. DH is, DS1 is. It looks nicer and it's cleaner. Good enough reasons IMO.

I probably won't BF. I hated it the last 2 times. I hate the holier than though "Breast is Best!!" bullshit. Enjoying your child is best. Feeding your child is best. Period.

Co-sleeping creates horrible sleepers. The people who are always complaining about how their child won't sleep, wakes constantly, still night nurses, etc. are ALWAYS co-sleepers. Why don't they see that??
You're absolutely right. We co-sleep and still aren't sleeping through the night at 18 mos. The terrible part is that I knew this was going to happen when it started, but I was so exhausted and the extra snuggle time made it worth it at the time. Totally regretting it now!

We bed shared. DD is a wonderful sleeper.

I also took her everywhere with me and I have the luxury to stay home. She naps on the go so night time wasn't a big deal for us. We really lucked out.

From ND!! Yes living in -30 or colder temps makes me NEED some warm weather for at least 3 months.
Does that still give me the right to bitch and moan about being hot while pregnant?!? Absolutely! ;)

I live in Chicago with some of the worst winters in the game, not that I love winter, but I really hate summer!  I'd rather be cold that hot,  there's no limit to how many layers you put on in the winter but there's only so many cloths you can take off in the summer.

I think the idea of a "Sip and See" is ridiculous. I know that I am going to have an awkward conversation with my MIL about this and come off as an ungrateful person.

What is a sip and see?
It's basically like a baby shower that happens AFTER the baby is born. The idea is that you invite women (or men...) to your home to "sip" mimosas, punch, or what have you and "see" the baby/nursery/blah blah blah. Gifts are not usually expected but most people feel obligated even if they have previously participated in a baby shower.

These are popular in the South where I'm from but I'm just not a fan. Too ostentatious for me and I love a good Southern tradition. I'm also not a huge fan of actually going to baby showers. Especially ones where typical shower games will be played.
  • I refused to have a shower with DS and agreed (thanks to immense pressure from my mom) to do a sip and see instead. It was very low key and only good friends and family were invited. We specified no gifts and people listened for the most part. It was actually a really nice way to see all the people I cared about without having to arrange a never ending slieu of visits while I was trying to recover from birth and get settled at home.

UO: I'm really not that excited for my first US. Whenever someone shows me an early ultra sound it's annoying pretending to care or see something. Just looks like someone scribbled all over a chalk board to me.
    Excited for heartbeat though!

We heard the heartbeat on Tuesday. It was super cool.

    :)
  • My UO: I think coffee is the worst. It tastes terrible and I don't understand why everyone loves it so much. Also hate caffeine so I have had a nice little advantage in this first month not having to break that habit.

Made the mistake of telling my boss I don't like coffee and she told me (very seriously) that she doesn't trust people who don't like coffee. Very dry sense of humor so I am not too worried but I definitely have pulled back from sharing my unpopular opinion.
  • My UOs are pretty tame but..
I hate sushi. And everything else that tastes of fish and ocean and lake and tank and pond. Yuck.

I hate when people ask me (or anyone else) when they're having kids, if they're trying to have kids, or stating that they should wait for this or that reason blah dee blah. Also, when I'm spending time with little kids and parents ask if it was 'good birth control'. I'm a young person (23) but happily married for two years to an awesome dude I basically grew up with and we have degrees, jobs, and our crap together. Even if we didn't, people shouldn't be so nosy. Plus, we've lost 3 babies in our two years married and want to be parents more than life. I get that few to no people in our lives are aware of that, but I die a little when such questions and statements come my way (which is very frequently). And I know that there are lots of people in the same secret boat. It's like asking a woman if she's pregnant. DON'T. End rant.

^This. I'm sorry but the vaginal scan is the most uncomfortable thing ever. You feel like you're going to pee you pants half the time and depending on the tech. It's like you don't have a cervix - my last tech kept hitting me in my cervix and it wasn't gentle. Not looking forward to this at all.
