Baby Names

girl names?

Which do you like better

Harley-Marie Jean Buckley

Keira Marie buckley

Now if you are going to say harley is a bike or a dog's name please don't post. My who family are riders and no they aren't low class. Also Jean is my grandma middle name and she past away on the 4th of July so Harley-Marie Jean has more meaning to me.

Re: girl names?

  • I'm biased because my niece is named Keira. Out of the two that one is my favorite. However if Harley-Marie Jean has more meaning to you then go for it!

Harley-Marie is a mouthful. Are you comfortable with it just being Harley? Is there a significance for Marie? I think Harley Jean is adorable, without the hyphenated Marie.

  • You cannot dictate the responses you get on a public forum, or in real life. The fact that you are defensive from the start is a red flag for this name.

Also, if your whole family rides, don't you think Harley is a bit on the nose? Just saying...

Keira Marie or Keira Jean are much better choices.

  • Clearly you like Marie, why not Jean Marie? I don't care for Keira personally and Harley-Marie is a mouthful on its own, let alone with yet another name thrown in there.

First of all, if you're dead set on using Harley (which I don't like) get rid of the hyphenation and just use the single name. I've never like hyphenated names so I can't be on board with Harley-Marie.
Also, I like the spelling of Kira more and it is a much better name.
Much like you and I'm sure plenty of others on this board, I have motorcycle family too, but I wouldn't name my child Yamaha or ninja or Kawasaki. It's actually kind of silly if you ask me.

ETA if you have to be that defensive to try to justify the naming of your child, the responses in real life may not be much better (they might be a bit nicer, but most likely fabricated)

Truly my concern with Harley is for when your daughter is an adult. If she decides to enter the business world, or the legal profession, the name "Harley" on a resume is going to be laughed at. It is fair or moral or right to discriminate against a person because they have an unprofessional sounding name? No. But it still happens, every day.

Keira is a lovely name that will work on both a little girl and a grown woman. I would go with that personally.
  • I totally get that you love the name Harley because of your family connection with motorcycles. But what if she's not into motorcycles? She may do the typical teenage thing and rebel against her family for awhile. But she can't really escape the motorcycle thing if her name is Harley. (Maybe you don't want her to escape it, heh)

And believe it or not, I see a lot of kids name Harley, but not Keira. Keira is much less common where I'm from.

For both reasons, I'd put Harley in the mn position if you really want to use it.

From all the names above, I'd pick Keira Jean as my favorite combo. Good luck deciding!

I really dislike Harley as a name. It's a brand so I think of it more in that respect. If you really like it I would use it as a middle name. Plus it's very masculine. Plus Harley-Marie is a mouthful. I'm really not a fan of hyphenated names in general. If you insist on Harley as a first name please take off the -Marie and just be Harley Jean or Harley Marie.

Keira is such a pretty, feminine name so it's not much of a competition. Keira Jean is adorable and a million times better than Harley-Marie.

  • Definitely like Keira more. If your set on using Harley, I think it would be a fine middle name. I'm just not crazy about it as a first name, especially for a girl.
  • My eldest son is called Harley! Great name!!
  • I have no issues with Harley if its the name you love. But I agree to drop hyphen and stick with Harley Jean..Also like Keira Jean is nice too
  • Harley is terrible.  Keira is nice.

  • My neice is dakota lee johnie lucas .her middle name is from our uncle that died so if the name has meaning screw what the people think they wont be raising your child
  • Well, @tdigiacomo89 when you give people options and say "this one or that one" and try to tell them which kind of answers to write, it's not gonna really go over well.
And plus, no one said anything about the middle name, most people said Jean is great, just to either not use Harley or to take away the hyphenated name, with reasons why.
It would be different if she had a particular person she was using the name after, but from what I understand it's just a hobby that everyone in her family has in common. Which is silly, because if everyone named their kids after hobbies that people in their family do...well we're gonna start seeing a lot more Canon's or Nikon's or crazy crap like that.
  • Keira by a landslide. Not a fan of Harley.

I think on the dog name - stripper name - real name triangle, Harley falls on the dog name / stripper name line, edging more towards the dog corner.

All of the other names are far into the real name corner.

  • Harley Jean!!!
  • The only Harley I know is a 55yo woman. She is a nurse and business owner and is very respected. It's probably not a name I would use but I like Harley Jean.

LOVE Keira Marie. Harley Marie Jean us just a lot to say- maybe just pick Marie or Jean as a MN? (Harley is NMS but no negativity here- it's a fine name and names are personal so do what you love as long as it's not crazy- Harley isn't common but it's not crazy!)
