Thoughts about the name Gracelynn?

My husband and I are keeping baby girl's name a secret and I need some input. I love the name Gracelynn Marie but I'm not sure if it sounds too made up or if people will get confused and think it's GraceLAND instead. The reason I love this name so much is because it will use 3 of her grandparent's middle names. Grace for my MIL, Lynn for my deceased dad, and Marie for my deceased mom. Regardless of whether or not we drop Grace I want to use the Lynn at the end of something and Marie as the middle name.

Thoughts? Other name suggestions?

Re: Thoughts about the name Gracelynn?

  • I do not care for randomly adding Lynn onto names. In my opinion it "dumbs down" the name.

I don't care for double middle names due to paperwork issues, but I think Grace Lynn-Marie would be a beautiful, timeless name to grow into and look far more professional once she is an adult.

  • I think it's a perfect combination of meaningful names and I'd go for it. The meaning alone makes it beautiful, but I also think it sounds sweet. I've had students who are Kaylynn, Raelynn, and Jaelynn, which are possible options but definitely don't sound the same as Gracelynn. I think it just has so much attached to it that I'd go with it!!

  • I think it's very pretty. Names are very personal. If it has sentimental value I say go for it.

I like Grace and I like Lynn and Marie. I do not like smoosh names and tey are about as trendy as you can get. I would do Grace Lynn-Marie. Gracelynn does sound like Graceland and it doesn't age well to me. It also sounds close to the every trendy Grayson/Greyson/gracen that is everywhere. Grace is timeless and having a double middle name still allows you to honor who you want without making up a name

  • And to build off my original comment. If you love Gracelynn, you can still call her that. It can be the special nickname that only family uses. But she'll still have a professional, non-trendy name for when she grows up. She'll be a child for 18 years, she'll be an adult for so much more.
  • I think it's absolutely beautiful! My cousin named her daughter Gracelyn. I really love the meaning behind the name for your family.

My cousins daughters name is Gracelynne May. I think it's a pretty name!
  • I think it's gorgeous!  @sbailey233 Would you pronounce it as 2 syllables or 3?  "grace-lynn" or "grace-uh-lynn?"

I've never heard the name Gracelynn before, but I think it's beautiful!! It has such a pretty ring to it!!
  • Even though it's "trendy" I still love it. Honestly I think this is one of the better trendy names. There are some names that are absolutely ridiculous and i would feel bad to have my child grown up with it. I think that the future generations are going to be nothing but "trendy" names and they won't be so abnormal anymore.

@OperaSingerMommy I would pronounce it as 2 syllables. I've never thought about doing it as 3 but it's still pretty!

    It is perfect and beautiful!
  • It's not our style but I think it's super cute. I just couldn't picture us with a gracelynn. I feel like its a name I've heard for a while too. She could always just go by Grace when she is older if she really wanted to. Otherwise you could just double middle name it and do Grace Lynn Marie.

I say go for it especially with the sentimental meaning. Our leading name is just one that popped into my head randomly.
