Spotting or period?

im 8 weeks pp and I started birth control pills 2 weeks ago. I had brown spotting all week yesterday and (tmi) it had a really bad odor. I had to keep a liner on to not get dirty and then on Sunday I noticed I started bleeding so I thought my period started, but I don't think it is now because I have little to no blood buy lots of brown discharge.. What can this be :(.....

    As my doctor explained it, breastfeeding and the hormones involved with it make the uterus really irritated and never settle down. Add the mini-pill, and the spotting can get worse since it's more of the same hormones. It should improve once you are no longer breastfeeding or start adding food. If you are having large clots or abdominal pain, though, you should call your OB.
