Weight gain

I've always suffered with severe insecurities about my weight.
I was told by a doctor on average I would put on two stone which I would've been happy with.
However, week 36 and I've suddenly gained 4 1/2 lbs in 4weeks and am now at a gain of 2 stone 2.5lbs.
Can I ask a really personal question and ask what people have gained?

  • I'm overweight to begin with, but haven't had any complications with pregnancy from it. No GB, no instense weight gain not even morning sickness. My doctor says something about my weight at each visit, which is annoying but I get it. I started pregnancy at 212 and am now at 219, so only 7 pounds gained so far and I'm 35 weeks tomorrow. It's just different with every person that's all. Nothing to beat yourself up over.

Please don't compare yourself to anyone. Every person and every pregnancy is different. Gaining a pound a week during 3rd trimester is perfectly normal. Remember that it took 9 months to put the weight on and give yourself at least that much time to lose it. Good luck and I hope you can make peace with your body. You're creating life and that's an amazing thing!

@MrsWilson830 I think you look great! You would never be able to tell you gained 45 lbs... Your arms and legs are still so toned and you're all belly!!!! You go girl! :-)

    Edited for spelling!!
  • I started at 140lbs and I worked out so I had muscles. Then, nauseous gradually worsen, around Thanksgiving, 1st trim, I got really sick with extreme nauseous case where I could go few days without eating nor drinking that led me to having upper respiratory infection, sinus infection and brochitis...imagine I could not have antibotics! I lost 25 lbs! 115. Sure I was thrill but wasn't thrill how SKINNY i looked. Bones to bones. Nobody could not recognize me. Now, I worked my way to get my weight bsck to 140, that wasn't until March...then now gradually adding weight. Now I am 172lbs. I am losing weight...again. nauseous..still.

Now on adding weight. I am in same boat, I always made sure I looked good...not overweight or underweight, but when I look in mirror...I call me fat. I would try to hide it but now it baby herman in belly is POP out ☺ I obviously cannot hide it! But, I love rubbing my belly and feel baby herman kicks... Haha My husband is sweetest man ever...he goes, noooo you are pregnant. You will be back to same size if you go back to gym lol but he doesn't understand how it affects my self esteem. I look huge to myself...FTM. others say I look so tiny and great! Even I couldn't work out at all. Kinda weird.

This is a very valid question and I hope you don't feel too put off by some peoples' opinions that weight shouldn't be discussed openly. Anyways, I am a FTM, Team Blue, 5'9''

    Pre-preg weight: 181lbs
Current weight at 35 weeks exactly: 205lbs

My OB gave me the ol' 15-25lb weight range, but I guess I won't quite be sticking to that. If you find it useful, attached are photos of me at about 4 weeks pregnant before I even got a BFP, and another one of me on Mother's Day at 33 1/2 weeks.

  • With my first child I started at 112 and ended at 159. The lowest I got down to before I having this next child was 117 which I was quite underweight at 112 so 117 was a good number for me. I then experienced a lot of depression and other health issues and gained weight. I started at 130 with this baby and now I'm 161. My doctor isn't worried about my weight at all and my baby isn't large either. Pregnancy is the one time where it is completely healthy and normal to gain a lot of weight quickly. You're making not only another human but another organ, extra blood, and milk. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your doctor doesn't.

My OB weighed me once at my initial visit, and never again. I've thought this was great and appreciate that she hasn't made it a big deal. She explained that pregnancy is different for everyone, and she likely wouldn't be checking my weight again unless there was reason for concern.

I'm a small build so I knew I had a ways to climb, every few weeks when time I get on the scale I think to myself 'big money, big money' lol and embrace the changes! Now I think I'm up 30lbs.

Most of us likely plan to breastfeed, and we're having babies during an ideal season to get outside and stay fit, so things will be in our favour :)

I honestly do not know how much I've gained so far. I don't look at the scale and I tell the nurses not to tell me. Ignorance is bliss! Haha or complete stupidity. I'll let you know after I deliver.

I have no clue how much I've gained either. I just trust my doctor will tell me if it's too much. I also have insecurities, but decided that a strong healthy baby is what is most important and stopped weighing myself after about 15 weeks. I trying to balance eating healthy with the stuff I'm actually craving and enjoy feeling like I can indulge more than normal. I think asking these questions and comparing yourself to others is probably the worst thing you can do. Especially if you're already feeling insecure.
