How did you go about doing this? Did you actually set up a consultation(s) with Dr(s). and interview them? Did you just pick a name and go with that? How is this typically done?
I checked my insurance to see who was covered in my plan. Then I based that off of referrals from other people and which dr was closest to home. I feel that is important when your child is sick, had a rash etc. You want to be somewhat close by. A lot of people go in for a visit to meet them first, but I didn't do that.
I asked around for recs from friends and coworkers. 3 people all told me about one particular practice. They had a night where new parents (or new to the practice) could come and ask questions and get info.
I like that our office has 7 doctors, so if you don't love one doc, there are plenty to choose from. They also have weekend hours for sick visits and evening appointment hours. Just some things to keep in mind for your search.

With our first like PP we checked with our insurance. That narrowed it down to three and I checked online reviews and then with friends and made my decision. A lot of questions I would have regarding an office were answered on the website as well. We stayed with the office for DS2 and will now for DD.
I have had the same family doctor all my life so I am very comfortable with her. She actually delivered me so it will be kind of cool she is delivering my baby too! I just hope she can for sure make my delivery. I am kind of worried she will be busy with office hours. Although I think she leaves for pregnancies but not sure. Just when I went in to confirm pregnancy she said she "tries to make all of her patients deliveries". She didn't really ask me if I wanted an actual OB that will for sure be there so I figured it would be weird to bring up. I figure if she doesn't make this delivery then next time I give birth I will look elsewhere.
Maybe you can check the best rated OB's on a "rate my doctor" website?
I called my insurance to see who was in network and then asked for personal recommendations from friends and coworkers. I scheduled interviews and went with the dr I liked best. This kid will go to the same pediatrician.

I asked my ob if she had any recommendations and she referred us to our pediatrician. We called the pediatrician and did a brief q & a by phone. We love her and this baby will be going to her as well
My family dr will be this baby's family dr as well as my sons. Although my family dr doesn't deliver babies, so I picked my baby doctor, the dr I had with my son was terrible !!
This baby will go to the same pediatrician as our daughter. We love him and the nurses. I remember going to meet our first pediatrician before our daughter was born and she was nice but after taking her there a few times we just didn't feel comfortable there. A bunch pf people I knew were going to our current Ped. so I switched and haven't been disappointed. See what your friends/family recommend!
I asked my midwife. The dr she recommended was amazing (like called one Friday night at 7pm to check on the baby amazing). He also became my and my husbands doctor too. Then he moved out of state but gave several detailed recommendations for his successor. Things that were important to me were flexible office hours (they have drop in three mornings a week as well as Saturdays and two evenings). Online scheduling, charts, email questions, growth charts, forms filled out. Personality is big too- I'm a straight shooter and am not overly dramatic so I want that from my physician too. Good luck!
This baby will go to the same pediatrician as my DS. Its also my siblings doc right now, and he was mine too. I love him as a doctor and he is great with kids. Very knowledgeable and laidback in his practice. Makes me feel very at ease and answers any questions I have. I wouldn't change.
I've been using the same pediatrician for my DD since I moved here (8 yrs ago) and I'll have to see if she takes my insurance (DD is under her Dads insurance). If she does I'll use her for this one too.
We initially chose a doctor at a practice based on my friends suggestion - she did such a good job with my ob recommendation that we followed it. That being said one of the doctors on duty from the practice made such a great impression on us that we asked him to be our pediatrician. As a family we love him and the practice is great with after hours and Saturday hours.
Edited to add: sorry for intruding - I thought I was on the September board. Oops!
I am actually using MY pediatrician!!! He is a family friend and I taught all 3 of his daughters how to swim about 15 years ago. Hah! He is a crazy, bizarre, goofy man but he always made me comfortable and I went to him until I was 20 *only because he finally kicked me out of his office.
I had it easy choosing mine.... I am a nurse in a pediatrician office. But we have had patients call us and set up appointment to come in and tour our office and meet the staff, ask questions, etc.
Re: Moms who have already chose Dr. for baby-
