34 Week Delivery.

Hi ladies.

So I just found out that I can no longer wait they are going to deliver my baby on Monday. This makes me 34 weeks. Due to severe placenta previa and now I have a crumbling pelvic bone. The doctors are worried if baby keeps growing my pelvis will crack.

What are the chances of baby needing to go to nicu? I've had 2 sets of steroid injections and I'm hoping it's ok. Baby is a good weight he is over 4lb so I'm hoping he does great

  • I know most hospitals won't send the baby home until it weighs at least 5lbs. Good luck
  • Over here you have to stay in hospital almost up to original due date, I guess it depends on hospital, your and your babys health. My SIL gave birth 2 weeks ago (due date also was in July) he was only 2lb2oz and he is doing just fine :)
  • T&Ps!!! And lots of hugs. Please keep us posted & know you have a supportive family here to vent to or ask questions! Sorry I don't have an answer for you

Good luck. I think it depends on baby about the NICU. I've seen some early babies not have to go at all. My friend had previa and delivered at 34 weeks too. Her son didn't have any problems but they did stay in the hospital longer than normal just to keep watch.

    Many prayers!
  • At the NICU nearest me, baby must either stay until due date or until they weigh 5 pounds and are breathing and eating with no complications.

Thoughts and prayers for a safe delivery and a short stay!

They will take him to the NICU regardless but it may not be a long stay. To go home baby must be at least 4 lbs, at least 34 weeks, Maintain body temp, no bradycardia or apnea episodes for at least 48 hrs, take all feeds by mouth and pass car seat test.

Generally at that age, the main reason they stay is to work on feeding.

    Good luck!

  • My friend just delivered a baby boy at 35weeks. He came out at 4.9lbs and they sent her home within 3 days. No nicu! :) hoping all goes well with your delivery and that you have a short stay at the hospital!!! I do know that some babies lose weight after birth until feedings are regular and some hospitals will keep you until they are back up to the birth weight they were delivered at if they do lose any! Good luck to you and baby! Looking forward to hearing some great news from you!
  • Maybe call your hospital As well that you are delivering at and find out what their policies are for preemie babies! :)
  • praying for you and precious LO! everything is going to be just fine!
  • Good luck! My sil had her baby last summer at 37 weeks baby weighed 4lbs 7 Oz they came home 2 days after delivery.
  • My thoughts and prayers for you to have a safe delivery and recovery and for the health of you and baby. I have no info on premies but I wish you the best.
  • Good thoughts and vibes being sent your way
  • Depends on where u deliver. The hospital I used to work at in the nursery/NICU we had a lot of 34weekers that stayed in regular nursery and went home with mom as long as they were able to feed well and keep their temperature regulated and their blood sugar stayed good. Some wound up staying a week or so cause they couldn't keep temperature up. All were healthy babies so regardless your LO will be just fine. Best of luck! So exciting!
  • Prayers, well wishes and good vibes to you and yours <3

Not a doctor, just overly paranoid about everything so I have researched.. At 34 weeks he SHOULD be okay. May have to go to nicu for a short time.. But he shouldn't need to be on oxygen machines or anything.. Shouldn't being keyword. Especially if you been getting shots to help growth.
Praying for a safe and healthy delivery/baby. Ask your doc as many questions as you want. You have the right to know every detail! Good luck!
  • My daughter was born at 34 weeks and she was in the NICU for 12 days... Good luck!! I am sure you lil man will do great!!

  • I have two friends who had their kids at 34 weeks. Neither needed nicu time just a few extra days in the hospital with mom. And both are vibrant healthy toddlers with no medical issues.

Good luck to you on Monday!!!!
