Had mine today... Room was so hot and I was cranky waiting 30 minutes for the doctor (and I was first appointment)....and I found out my GBS test was positive so I am upset and anxious about that despite doctors reassurance that it is not an uncommon scary thing... Just not used to having to worry about that.
I also tested positive for GBS. It's no big deal but I was planning to labor at home so I'm pretty bummed. You have to have antibiotics in your system for at least 4 hrs before giving birth. (I know that even if I labored at home I'd have a 99% chance of being in the hospital for at least 4 hours. I'm just having a drama queen moment)
Baby is as low as he can possibly get. As my Dr. checked for the heartbeat apparently I was having contractions! It's so crazy to hear because I've been wondering when Braxton Hicks will come lol. She told me to have everything prepared & that her guess is LO won't make it to his due date. She even made the comment that I might not make it to my next appointment.
You know, I wish Drs didn't tell women stuff like that. I find that it causes confusion & gives false hope. I mean she could be right but she could also be equally as wrong too.
But just in case she is right, I'm installing the car seat today lol.

How is it even possible to guarantee 4 hours? Ugh so didn't want to have this added stress... I have been combing the internet looking at home remedies for this as well... Have you considered any as an added precaution? I don't really want to insert garlic into my vagina lol but I will consider it.
@ElRuby I find the 4hr rule super annoying too! I asked my Dr how the heck I'm supposed to know when to leave home & she said if your water breaks come immediately. She also said don't let contractions get any closer than 5mins apart but it has to last for a few hrs. Worst case scenario is baby has to get antibiotics through an IV if 4hrs doesn't pass.
I didn't know there were remedies?! Garlic makes since because it's antibacterial. But you know how Drs are with remedies. I read online that once you test positive, the hospital has to give you antibiotics even if it comes back negative a second time.
Had a very speedy 34 week check up this morning! Still very crazy for me to think by the time my next appointment rolls around at 36 weeks, it will be JUNE 1st and i'll start going weekly. SO EFFING BANANAS. This stuff is getting so real it's nuts.
So my doc was able to feel that my baby's head was down and could confirm her butt is squishing my ribs and gall bladder. So while it's still early enough that she could keep on flipping around, it was comforting to hear that she's in a good spot now. It made me happy to be able to picture what she looks like in there
ETA: Also, i haaaaaaaate discussing it but it's seriously killing me watching the scale continue to jump up so quickly. I feel like if i knew i was gonna give birth at 37 weeks, I wouldnt feel that bad but if im going to go to 41 weeks then I'm in serious trouble.
Had my GBS(when do you get the results?) Cervix is soft she said but closed, she seemed happy about all of that. She said I'm measuring 30 weeks but I will be 36 weeks on Wednesday!!!! Ultra sound tonight to check out this little babe!
OB did his check then said "well you're a 3, but don't get too excited. On the plus side all my patients this late in the game have happy, healthy babies." at least he's honest and tries to crack some jokes. Just need to keep active and LO will be here before we know it.
Not to worry anyone but regarding positive GBS... "worse case scenario" isn't just baby having to get antibiotics through an IV. While home remedies may provide an extra bit of protection for your baby, the IV antibiotics you should receive in a timely manner (4 hours) are your best line of defense. While it is fairly common and most of the time results in normal healthy babies, GBS sepsis in a newborn can be life threatening and should not be taken lightly.
When I said "worst case scenario" I literally meant that's absolutely the last thing they can do. I'm in no way advocating to avoid going to the hospital early to get antibiotics or saying that being positive for GBS isn't serious. I hope we all have enough common sense to talk to our Drs & not take a positive result lightly.
I'm a FTM & 37w 4d. Had my appointment this morning and we heard Squishs heartbeat (great anniversary gift for my husband because he usually can't make appointments because he works 1800-0600). Dilated to 3.5 cm's. She didn't mention effacment but a week ago I was 50%. Had some abnormal cramping & bleeding post check and passed a clot but they said not to worry if the bleeding stopped. Had a follow up NST at the appt too but Squish is doing just fine.
Had my 36 week appointment today, which is when my office switches to every other week appointments. Did the GBS swab; I found it surprisingly uncomfortable; I'm never troubled by having a pap. Maybe because or more blood in the region? Great news is that our baby is head down! I was starting to go nuts trying to figure out what different movements meant.
Going to see a chiropractor tomorrow because of the confusion about whether baby is transverse or not. I figure it can't hurt if he's already head down, but it could help if he's not!

I never read your post as taking it lightly... And I am not either... I was a little confused about that post and if it was aimed at me or not... I will of course get antibiotics but the home remedies can't hurt... And I wasn't saying I was going to get the medical treatment!
@ElRuby I think it was directed to the "throwing my l&d nurse opinion in" post. Correct me if I'm wrong @MixedCurlsXo
Wanted to add, I was paranoid about GBS so spent some time researching home remedies and asked my birth class instructor who told me the easiest thing you can do is eat yogurt/take acidophilus. Promotes healthy vaginal bacteria and prevents yeast infections in you and thrush in baby in the case that you do need the antibiotics.
38 weeks yesterday, and was told Friday at growth ultrasound to expect to be sent to L&D immediately following today's appointment for induction. Turns out I won't be going in until Friday. Really bummed, ladies.. I was super excited to be meeting baby tomorrow(ish) and now I'm being told that at 0 cm dilated and no effacement that we probably won't see LO until Sunday.
So now I'm bouncing like a nut on this ball and researching red leaf tea and labor cookies.

Yes that is what I thought... I meant my post in support of @MixedCurlsXo so she knew that her post didn't come across as taken it lightly... Sorry if it was confusing!!!

@ElRuby we're on the same page, I was directing that at @rspare because she quoted me but took what I said out of context. I didn't think I was coming across as taking it lightly either which is why I posted that response to clear it up.
You mentioned you were searching the internet, were you able to find any remedies? & I'm curious if testing positive once means all future pregnancies will be positive as well?

My Dr actually answered this when I was there this past Friday. She said you can have it one time and not have it the next time (or vice versa), so its entirely about what's going on right now.
You can test positive in one, then negative the next... And vice versa. I know first hand, unfortunately, if not treated could be life threatening for babes... The good news is treatment is very effective, and peds will just usually keep babies one extra day for monitoring. It's just a sucky thing but lots of people have it and deliver healthy babies.
@mellymar@HayesRN13 thanks ladies that's really good to know! It just crossed my mind an hr ago so I never thought to ask while I was talking with my dr.
@MixedCurlsXo I think the easiest things to do are eating more probiotics (like yogurt) and taking a bath with a 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar... Other recommendations were raw garlic either orally or vaginally and eating fermented foods... There are several websites dedicated to these things it's hurt a matter of being able to do some of them on a regular basis.
Just leaving my almost 37 week appointment. Waiting for blood work registration but we officially have some progress since I was in on Sunday night. Its only a little over a 1 dilation and 50% effacement but still progress from being told there was nothing with strong contractions all night the other night. My contractions are coming back in more regular waves so I think it could be sooner than later.
Had mine today at 37+4. GBS negative, but thinking of you ladies who are positive. Got my DPT shot, and handled it like a big girl despite my needle phobia. Baby's head is engaged and cervix is "shortening", whatever any of that means. Doctor said, "I don't know. It means your body is getting ready. I don't predict your baby will come today, tomorrow, or probably even the next day. After that, who knows." I like his style.
I thought an engaged head would mean some relief on my ribs, but those little feet like my ribs. My mother says, "Serves you right - you rested your feet up on my right rib for three straight months!" So now I have the feeling of a head in my pelvis AND feet in my ribs. Makes me laugh, though - it won't last long.
LO is measuring about 6.5 pounds. DH is very disappointed and keeps calling it "small" although it is exactly in the 50th percentile. I was 9 lbs and DH was 9 lbs 12 oz, so maybe the kid is smaller than we were, but... it's not coming out of his body!! So shut up, dude!
I'm 34+2 being induced at 36+3 from the cholestasis. My bile acids and LFTS both came back the lowest they have been since 28 weeks when I was diagnosed. My bile acids are at 30 which at least got me out of the severe range but they are so unpredictable and jump all over the place so we are sticking with my June 3rd induction date! My gbs was negative, baby looks great on us and nst. Tomorrow will be my 2 week mark for when I go into the hospital and I can't even believe it! Seems so surreal that my little man will be here so soon! I've been having some cramping which I sure hope means my cervix is softening up- I was closed thick and high last week and deferred a check this week! I've been drinking red rasp leaf tea for a few weeks and taking pep vaginally for about a week now so hoping those things will help! Have a great day ladies!!!
I had my weekly appointment today. Nothing totally out of the ordinary. We did talk about ECV. They said they do it at 39 weeks in the OR. If it is successful they induce me right away and if it is not successful then they do a c-section right away. I asked why they induced or did a c-section so soon and they said they did it that way in case there were micro tears in the placenta. I have not heard of it being done this way ( specifically c/s or induction immediately after). I've sent an email to my doula. Have any of you heard of it being done this way? Just curious. Thanks!
Waiting for an u/s to confirm baby boy is still breech but I can tell us right now he still is because I can feel his head near my belly button...
@esampson1983 I've seen them do inductions right away to keep the head in place to engage but I've not heard of doing a cesarean right away. Ours usually send patients home if it doesn't work and schedule the cesarean. I can see where they are saying the risks are though. I guess every doc/hospital is different
Just got done at the office now fo t 37 week check up, now it's nst time. Found out my 24 hour pee collection is good, GBS is negative (yay!), got a bladder infection (boo), and am 3cm 50% effaced. My growth ultrasound got cancelled until Friday I'm so ready to have this little monkey!
Had my almost 37 week appt today. Nothing exciting. I'm GBS negative and he's head down. BP and urine were both fine. They didn't do a cervical check or anything which I'm okay with.

Okay thanks. It's good to hear that the reasoning makes sense to you. I think DH and I have a lot to discuss tonight.
We just finished the U/s and he is still breech. They say he is 5 lbs 15 oz. I do worry that he is tiny, but I also know that u/s does not always give the most accurate measurement.
Had a pretty crappy appointment. Blood pressure is on the rise and am now being considered to have hyptertension. Need to go for twice weekly non-stress tests and an ultrasound. Thankfully baby is healthy.

Okay that's pretty much what I found when I did some searching. I'm interested in apple cider vinegar baths. I didn't see that one! It smells horrible but being so diluted in bath water hopefully it would have no smell.
I'm afraid of inserting anything vaginally tho (I came across people putting things on tampons) unless I was being seen by a midwife & she suggested it. I started taking probiotics last night & I plan to take them daily. I found a super small study that concluded that daily probiotic use will lower GBS colony count. Hopefully doing those things in combination with IV antibiotics will drastically lower the risk.
Had my 36 week appointment today (though I will be 37 weeks on Thursday). Did the GBS swab and first cervical check. Like some other ladies have mentioned, I found the GBS swab to be uncomfortable. The cervical check wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Cervix was 2 cm and I am 70% effaced. Baby is head down. Measuring right on track. Doctor made the joke that I should really try to not have the baby before my next appointment.
Overall, good appointment. Doctor was only concerned about GBS because I have allergies to several common antibiotics (Penicillin and any derivative, most -mycin drugs, sulfa drugs). Only real option appears to be Vancomycin, which is one of the only -mycin drugs I can take with no issue. We are both praying the test comes back negative so I do not have to worry about the antibiotic part.
