Girls Name - Revisited

I had really negative feedback on the first name Lexi. I have several family Alexa, Alexandria and Alexander so using Lexi as a nn for a longer name is kind of limited. I agree that maybe Lexi Madison does sound a little juvenile. Does anyone have suggestions for a middle name the is maybe more traditional that flows with Lexi?

Other names on our radar are:
Makenna, Malia, Peyton, Haley, Mila... feedback? !

Re: Girls Name - Revisited

  • Are there any family names you could use as a middle name with Lexi? I absolutely love the names Peyton and Mila
  • Loading the player...
  • Also, I would like to add that if there is a name you love you should use it despite other people's opinions

Thank you. Yes I am confident to take others opinions with a grain of salt. I think we all have very different tastes in names. I wanted to use this forum for feedback and fun. It was never meant to be a negative experience :)
  • Mila is nice. Sorry, but I just can't get behind Lexi as a stand alone name. What about Lucy, Lily, Lacy, Lauren, Lydia, Laurel?
  • Are you not budging on Lexi? If you can't use a longer version of the nick name Lexi, I truly think you should scrap Lexi, and find a different first name. I don't like Makenna, Peyton is a boy's name, Haley is meh...ok, but doesn't go with Lexi, I like Mila the best from your list, and it would be nice to use as a first name instead of Lexi. Malia seems to flow the best with Lexi if you must use Lexi.

You can still use a longer version of the name Lexi. Even if you have a family member with the name Alexandra or Alexis and they don't use the nn Lexi, then you are good. I would definitely give the child an adult name to fall back on for when she is in high school , college job interview etc. Give her options! You can still call her the cutesy nn Lexi her Entire life. If Lexi works.......then, " Her name is Alexandra but we are calling her Lexi " will work also!
  • Honestly if all the longer versions of Lexi are used in your family I probably wouldn't use it aside from the fact it's too nicknamey as a given.  Mila is great and would be my choice of the others listed by far.  The rest are trend city.  Suggestions based on those...

  • Alexia is one of my favorite names! It's such a strong name and she can easily go by Lexi but have options with a stronger name to age with.

Like Mila but a little rhymey with Alexia.

    Alexia Olivia
    Alexia Grace
    Alexia Madelyn
    Alexia May
    Alexia Chloe
    Alexia Karis
    Alexia Zara
  • Malia is a beautiful name!

  • I think it's really really weird that you don't want to use a longer name with Lexi as a NN because you have family members with the longer names, but still think Lexi is totes cool, even though it's still very similar to the other names. Doesn't make sense.

Pick a new name. Nobody wants to be Sexy Lexi all their life.
    My thoughts exactly!

Start over. Maybe use Alexandra as her middle name and if you must use Lexi as her nickname then at least she has her own first name AND the formal Alexandra, affords her several options in the future.

Remember, she will be an adult for the majority of her life... a cutsie name like Lexi is not very grown up, nor professional.

    Peyton Alexandra
    Haley Alexandra

If you use McKenna, I'd use this spelling.

    Paige McKenna is pretty...

  • You have Alexa(s) and Alexandra(s) in the family, but that shouldn't cut out Alexis and Alexia as options.

I went to school with a girl named Alexia, NN Lexi, and she made the switch to her full name in middle school so boys would stop calling her "Sexy Lexi". It sure would be nice if your daughter had something to fall back on, too.
  • As a high school teacher, I have a large number of girls with Alexa/Alexis/Alexandra/Alexandria that chose to go by their full names, strictly to avoid the "Sexy Lexi" nickname. I agree with PPs that you should give her a full name to go back on for when she is older.

I also love PPs suggestion of Mila Alexis.

  • In regards to the Lexi name, I went to school with several Lexi's. We are all in our 30's and they all still go by Lexi, but I asked them once before if they were glad that they had longer names (because I also had Lexi on my list at one point). They ALL said that they were glad that they had longer, more "adult" names that they were able to use for work, diplomas, resumes, their wedding invites, etc. One of them mentioned that seeing "Alexa J. Burnett" on all of her paperwork, looked a thousands times more professional than seeing "Lexi J. Burnett" (real names not used in this example obviously).

But if you are dead set on using Lexi, I would go with a name that ages better. So if she ever gets tired of "sexy Lexi" or would like something a little more "grown up" later, she can go by her middle name.

    I much prefer Mila
  • It surprises me how conservative people are with their responses on this board. Considering how many Jaxon's and other "out-there" names I see in the birth announcements, Lexi isn't so bad.

Lexi is a child's nickname. Your daughter is going to be 45 some day and have no options for a name or nickname to escape that cutesy little kid name.

Madison (Matthew's Son) and Peyton are male names. Makenna is too preshus for this world. Go with Haley or Alexis or Mila.

Yes but if everyone was jumping off a bridge, would you jump too?

I wouldn't say it's conservative so much as realistic. Just because Jaxon is common and worse then Lexi doesn't mean Lexi is a great name.

And most of us think it's a cute nn, but we're realistic that it's nice to have a formal name for professional reasons, and that there are pitfalls to this particular nn, i.e. Sexy Lexi
  • I don't think mn Madison makes a difference. Lexi sounds nicknamey and juvenile no matter what mn you pair it with. I like Mila a lot. I also really like Maya, similar feel. You could find something with a similar feel to Lexi, but that's a proper name, like Lucy or Lillian (Lily).

Madison is not what is making this name juvenile. Lexi is what is making it juvenile. You can pair nearly anything with that and it's going to sound like a nickname.

This is what I was thinking. Having the full name Lexi is juvenile. Madison makes is more masculine. I can't really get on board with Lexi as a full name. If you have so many family members with similar names and they're close enough that you don't want to use the name, wouldn't it be better just to use a totally different name? Maybe keep Lexi as the middle name. You could call her Lexi even if it's her middle name.
