Re: Any Tattooed Mamas Out There?

  • I have a rib peice, both of my feet covered, A small rose on the top of my wrist, a half sleeve that will be finished after baby gets here, one behind my ear, one on my lower left hip/butt, and another on my front lower left hip. I love my tattoos I knew when I was a kid id get them lol I used to say I wanted to be a tattoo artist at the age of 10. If my children want them that's totally okay with me, I got my first one at 16 with my mom. Little lady bugs on our feet & that's where it alllll started

I have 14 all together. Foot lower and upper back, 2 on my side 2 that make up a half sleeve on one side, 4 that make up an incomplete sleeve on the other, behind my ear and the back of my neck, my thigh and my chest. I think they are beautiful and an expression of yourself. I have a 9 year old and it doesn't bother me that she sees them. When she's old enough she can do as she pleases. My only warning to her would be make sure you really want it. I will be adding after my little one is born. I have a bit of a wait.

I have a bunch of colorful tattoos (some pretty large) and my husband has zero. I have a sleeve, half-sleeve, a poem that my grandma wrote across my shoulder blades, and a large one on my side that extends from my bra strap to my underwear line and am curious to see how my pregnancy will affect it. I've got several more that are a little smaller too in various spots. My husband and I are both pretty creative so hopefully our baby will inherit it from us!

I have a tattoo on my side that goes from my bra strap down to my thigh and it has survived 2 pregnancies so far and still looks the same! I was a little worried about it the first time I was pregnant and it did start to get wider as my tummy grew but it went right back afterwards. Hopefully yours does the same!

  • I was going to start my half sleeve last month and then I found out I was pregnant. I will also have to add on to the piece on my ribs after LO arrives. Side pieces hurt like a b$tch more than the one on my foot. Think I miss not being able to get a tat more than I miss my wine.

I'm due Nov 6th and am heavily tattooed and pierced. I have a full sleeve, and several other large pieces. And I have 8 non-ear piercings & 00 guage stretched lobes. I am proud to be a respectable, responsible, kind, hard working EMPLOYED mom-to-be who also has many body modifications. I think it's up to us to give a good name to modified mommas out there, since some people still seem to pass premature judgments on us.

If we have a boy I plan to name him Jack Michael. And get the jack of hearts playing card tattooed on my arm. I think there is no better way to pay tribute to the ones who mean everything to you.

I will not allow my child to get tattoed until he or she is 18. Simply for the fact that priorities change as we get older, and I'm not so sure that a teenager would be able to make a life long decision such as a tattoo at such a young and impressionable age.
  • You guys have inspired me to start on my next tattoo design incorporating my children.

I agree with that as well. Especially because some jobs have lightened up about having them, but many others still haven't. Hopefully once our kids are grown it'll be even less of a hassle. I would hope my daughter will wait till at least 18, and start small with something she can hide. If she wants more make sure it's meaningful and her career is ok with it. I was lucky with my job as the doctor I worked for didn't care for them but didn't mind I had them. And my patients loved them, they were always an easy topic of discussion. I worked in oral surgery for 7.5 years before I moved away and my new town doesn't have any OS offices. Decided to take some time off for baby and am definitely wondering how it will be job hunting again lol.
  • I got a tattoo on my lower back at 19 and I wish I hadn't. I just wish I'd thought it through more. I chose a tat from a book they had there #-o
I also have 2 small tattoos close together on my right foot. I designed those and I'm really happy with them.
I would love another but I now have a rule (since the first one) that I have to REALLY want it for at least a year, then I know I won't regret it.
I think I would encourage my child to hold off for a while just to make sure it's a decision they will be happy with long term.
@VexyMommy I feel the same! Reading this thread has made me itchy for some more ink. Good job I have plenty of time ahead of me to think of ideas!
  • Love yours, @tayzav! I'm tempted to share, too. :)

ETA: @celestial14 I LOVE your halfsleeve. I have a lot of flowers, too.

Mine are artsy, kind of a mix between old school and new. I helped design all my tattoos and let the artist do his/her spin on it.

So pretty! I love the cage with the bird on top. Gorgeous.
    Plus beautiful wedding picture!
  • So many pretty ones lol I plan on a few big ones just haven't gotten to them yet mostly because I work weird hours and I sleep a lot lol
  • Thank you kindly, @kmkrushi. :) The birdcage is actually from an album cover of a band I adoooore.  I do love the natural defiance of the image, though. It suits me well.

I have not heard of them, but based on the cover art I will totally be looking them up.
  • @tayzav Thanks, pretty lady. I certainly felt lovely that day. :)
  • Ok, with all of you sharing your awesome pics I just couldn't resist. The piece on my arm is the larges and extends with additional flowers onto my upper back. Also have another small one on my forearm, a large tree on my lower back, and 4 on my hips.
  • Little red ridding hood and big bad wolf half sleeve.
  • I have a few. A big one on the top of my foot and 2 small ones, one on my ankle and one on my upper thigh. I plan on getting 1 more after I'm done having kids. I want to get each child's birth month flower with their initials in a petal. I'll get this in the "war zone" (stretch mark area)

    Ahhhhh so metal!!
  • Just a smallish one on my left shoulder blade of the LOVE statue with daffodils growing out of it. DH has a matching one (minus the daffodils). He has 5 total and wants to turn his upper arm tattoo into a half sleeve. I like mine, but probably won't get any more.

@Bettytteb also sooooo pretty. Love it! Wedding photos are the best with tattoos. @Gapeach83 that's awesome! I loveeee the detail and colors.

Since some are sharing pictures, here's my most recent & favorite! It was taken when it was brand new. I don't have any good healed-up pictures of it, but I love it.

@sdnyc99 I like that a lot. I have something similar on my back of two swallows but they're in color and facing each other with a heart lock between them.
  • I love your guys' tattoos!!

I currently have three: somewhat of a half sleeve, one on my upper back and one on my hip.

The one on my back is the Filipino Sun and Stars that are on the Philippines flag.

My sister and I got matching ones on our hip that says "I am beautiful" in Tagalog (the Filipino language) along with some flowers.

The one on my arm I have been going back and forth on whether or not to cover it up or try to remove it.

Its an outline of the state of California with San Diego written across it. It has a big pink bow, a palm tree (that ppl often mistake for marijuana leaves lol and cheetah print) It used to have a pink diamond pierced into it to make the dot on top of the letter "i" but my body rejected it which has now caused a scar. I was young and immature when I got it and I really don't care for it anymore so I would like to put something more meaningful there incorporating my family or some other interests..

I love that idea and might totally steal it! I think I just found inspiration for the next one!

This is a totally cute idea!
  • I have one (wanted more but didnt have money for them) it's on my pinky and says promise. The guy that did it screwed up massively and once this baby is here and I have extra money i will be getting it fixed.

I don't mind my children seeing tattoos. They are art and I'm a huge "art nerd" also self expression. I don't see why people have a big issue with tattoos to begin with I find no excuse a reasonable excuse. But that's just me. I plan on getting more for sure :3
  • I was raised in a family where if you were younger it had to be approved by both of your parents to make sure it wasn't something dumb or inappropriate it was ok but once you turned 18 that decision was yours to make...however my mom sheltered me so I went crazy after I turned 18 lol but I think as long as my child at an appropriate age asked for something small and meaningful it will be fine
  • Haven't tought latelly about my tattoos, kind of they are part of me. Togheter with my tounge and belly button piercings complete me. I have 10 tattoos, and i would remove 2 of them. I do have 2 small foot prints on my neck with my son's nickname under them, those I would redoo because time+sun=not that great tattoo. And 2 made when I was 14...one of them resembles the batman sign :D ....I really saw it as a tribal sign 13-14 years ago...now I just joke about it. Thank god it is not that visible (I had that little brain at least:)))
