I hear ya! I finally bought a pair of maternity jeans recently because I missed jeans, but that's it. A lot of my regular clothes still fit. I figure when I run out off comfortable clothes, that will be the time to hit the maternity store.
Most of my regular clothes fit fine (at 16w5d), but I am far more comfortable in maternity pants at this stage due to the waistband while sitting. I don't sit much at all for my job, but driving alone is long enough to and from work to warrant a wardrobe change.
The pros: no fly to zip or button to mess around with; they grow with your bloating (if you do that); and you can usually find some pretty normal-looking dress pants and shorts if you look hard enough.
I'm still not wearing maternity tops, but I've been wearing looser fitting clothing that would look flattering on me if I was just heavier in general, and I've found that they're more flattering than cinched sides at this stage anyway. Bite the bullet by buying some cute pants and see how it goes. You might have the same reaction one of my friends just did, "Why did I wait so long!?"
I hate maternity clothes. They don't fit my body, even when very pregnant. I can usually find other things to wear in regular clothes. Leggings, sun dresses, gaucho pants. You'll be surprised what you can make work.

Put me in the "why did I wait so long???" camp. I was fighting it hard but I'm so much more comfortable now and when I put regular clothes its awful lol
I was fighting the pants but I finally bought some maternity jeans and want to know why we don't just wear these?! My only downside is I usually carry my phone in my back pocket and now it pulls them down. I just got some with the small little side panels because I wasn't ready to commit to full panel. I need some work pants though since I sit at a desk most of the day.
I love maternity clothes. They are more comfortable and make me look pregnant and not just wide and frumpy. For casual pants I did just go up a size in some stretch yoga pants and those are comfortable for now.
@edavis926 yes!! I cannot commit to full panel jeans I just can't do it! My sister is letting me borrow her pea in the pod jeans and I love them!! No panel and they look exactly like regular jeans with a stretchy waist. I'm on the hunt for some of my own.
I found these linen pants at Old Navy this weekend that have a fold down stretchy waist...not maternity pants, but pretty close to the real thing. I can get away with the hair tie trick with my jeans earlier in the day, but by the end the waist is uncomfortable.
I didn't want to buy maternity clothes because I didn't want to spend the money. I was getting really uncomfortable so my mom took me to old navy and made me try on some shorts and plain t-shirts. She ended up buying me the shorts even though I told her I didn't want her to. I have to admit that I now love them. I have been wearing them all the time and it's so much more comfortable than regular clothes. I still wear a lot of regular maxi skirts and dresses but I caved and bought a pair of work pants and some t-shirts. I don't plan on buying a lot of maternity clothes but I do think I will buy a pair of jeans and a couple other basics just because it will make me so much more comfortable this summer.
It's so true that you'll be more comfortable. I prefer full panel over the short thing that falls in a weird spot or the side stretch panels. I don't like to spend a lot in maternity clothes though. I hate spending on stuff I can't keep. I just bought shorts at old navy with side panels and they look just like regular shorts. Very happy with them. I also get stuff at Target.
I outgrew all my jeans a couple weeks ago. I went ahead and bought a pair of shorts the other night. I won't need pants all summer since school is about to be out. Fortunately, my dress pants will make it through this week. I'm just about out of room!
I absolutely LOVE maternity clothes, especially all the body con options that look anything but frumpy - they show off the bump so perfectly. Not as crazy about the pants, but there are so many form fitting dresses that I probably wouldn't wear when not pregnant because they just seem too revealing that seem totally cute now - asos.com (they have some adorable, body con dresses in a "scuba" material that fits like a glove but still has a little structure) and Isabella Oliver are my favorite.
I also went into Destination Maternity and walked straight out. Everything there seemed frumpy, dated, and just not-me. I then talked to a friend who only bought 2 pairs of maternity pants and a couple of tanks for her whole pregnancy, and just got really flowy shirts and open sweaters that she could wear after. She recommended that I check out Pea in the Pod, and that's where I got my pants and tanks. The clothes there are MUCH cuter, and the basics are NOT much/more expensive than DM. The ASOS and Loft lines are also cute, depending on your style - I would be way more likely to buy maternity clothes that are actually cute and well-(or at least better-)made than anything at Destination Maternity.
I hate maternity clothes.,I think they're hideous and ugh what's with the band that goes over your belly? So itchy and uncomfortable. I think I'm gonna wear skirts all summer and just get bigger tops.
Not a fan either . I've gone size or two up and stretchy stuff with regular clothing . I'm so dang short most maternity clothing looks awful on me . I did find some maternity leggings at h&m and they are crazy comfy and look decent . I may cave in and buy more maternity clothes if i manage to find some that fits ok.

This!!! For me too, I normally feel weird in a body con dress but I love it now with my baby bump! I bought one from Patty Boutik on Amazon that I am planning to do all my formal pregnancy pictures in My belly popped out really fast so I can't fit into regular jeans and haven't been able to since I was 8weeks along Maternity jeans have been a struggle because they were too tight on my legs and too big on my belly. I finally found an adjustable pair from 3 Seasons Maternity on Amazon that make me very happy
I am avoiding it as well. I have some stuff from my last pregnancy but it's all the wrong season. I've been wearing maternity jeans since I pretty much got my BFP but now none of my clothes really fit anymore and I'm really cringing at having to go shopping for stuff and having to spend money on it. [-(
I bought a cotton clearance maternity dress at target months before I found out I was pregnant just because it was cute and cheap and could worn when not pregnant. No regrets!!! Those dresses are the most comfortable things!

I hate the full belly panel! It's hot and itchy. It also makes my shirts stick to it so they don't flow right. I'm going to the Mall of America in 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll find more options there!!
@Dreamingmommy4 all of my maternity clothes are winter clothes and I won't get much use out if them this time either. It sucks!
I don't understand how everyone can wear a size or two up! Maybe it fits in the belly area, but I know my legs and butt wouldn't fit and would be lost in bigger sizes. Maternity pants legs still fit and just are expanded in the waist. That band that goes all the way up your tummy is awesome and has never itched me at all. When your belly button gets weird the coverage over it is a big help and conceals it!
I love the full panel pants! I've never had issues with itchiness. I've been wearing them since I was 8 weeks or so just because I was bloated and nauseous and hated having anything too tight on my waist. I've tried the Demi panels and the side panels and they just don't work for me I felt like it just made me look like I had a muffin top, not cute at all. I really do think it depends on your body type though. I also tried the belly band but since I am curvy to begin with I felt like it just kept riding up.
@shannonboettcher I completely agree!!!!! Although I'm not curvy and love the belly band, too, but it becomes hard to use at this stage in pregnancy. I use it a lot in the beginning and postpartum, too!

The band is good for SPD for some women, also it can take a lot of pain off your back !
All I have bought so far is some maternity tanks since they are so long and just wear a regular size sweater over it. But luckily my sister was pregnant less than a year ago so she gave me all of her clothes. I have a hard time spending the money on something I'm only going to need to six months. Unfortunately I'm at that middle stage where my regular clothes are a little too tight and the maternity clothes are way to big!
Maxi skirts buy lots of them! They are something that can work while pregnant and still work next summer! I found some fairly cheap! They can be dressed up or dressed down!
If you're lucky, or make mommy friends who are generous, you won't have to buy much at all! I made a deal with my sister and her friends who all have kiddos under 3. They traded clothes around and I got them last for almost free (like 6 Rubbermaid tubs for a few bucks each). I think I've spent $50 total on a swimsuit and a few pairs of leggings, since I wouldn't want those second hand. I'm sure you can find someone on a swap and sell site on Facebook.
Gap maternity has great jeans that fit just like their normal ones and with all kinds of panel options. I have one with side inset panels for when I want to wear a shorter top (and not see a panel) and one with a Demi (?) panel. I got one pair for $4 and one for $14.99 on sale! They're always having additional 30% off sale items and the $4 ones must have been on sale a few times over. Oh and I also got cute cutoff shorts. I'm short, so maternity tops might as well be a dress on me so I've just been getting by with stretchy tees and tanks from target two sizes up.
I mostly wear leggings and loose tops anyway (I work a very casual job) so I'm not thinking I'll need tons of maternity clothes. However, I hate the feeling of waistbands lately and am considering buying either maternity leggings or jeans just to get through everything. I did buy a pair of maternity shorts for this summer from Zulily, as well as a cute maternity top, but that's been about it. If you're hating the price of maternity clothes, I recommend Zulily -- they take forever to ship. but their customer service is excellent and they have some amazing prices if you watch. (My shorts were only $12, the top was $14!)
I'm a BIG maxi skirt/ dress believer too! I never really went and invested in them even though they're my favorite things to wear and my husband's favorite thing to see me in... I just never am able to justify buying new clothes so now I have an excuse and it's fantastic because I can where them regardless of whether I'm pregnant or not so it's not a waste!
i LOVE maternity pants! They are so comfy. I've gotten all my pants from the thrift store (2 Gap pairs, 1 H&M and 2 Pea in Pod pairs) all for under $10. Definitely wearing maxi dresses a lot and other jersey/cotton dresses. But chicago wont get summer-hot yet so mostly been wearing tights and flowy dresses.
Agreed. I have yet to accept the idea of maternity clothes... I don't really need them YET but my clothes are getting pretty tight. I am all about the maxi skirts and dresses.
I wear a mix of maxi/loose dresses and tops with some maternity dresses and shorts. Get at least a few pieces. You'll look good, but you'll feel even better. I find it can be a little depressing when larger regular clothes just don't work and rightfully so! Your body is a special shape right now that isn't just "bigger".
Same here can't bring myself to buy them either! I think because I don't like anything I see anyways and can't bring myself to spend money on stuff I don't like I just keep wearing leggings and my cardigans, kimonos open flannels and just getting long black tank tops to wear under lol
I only usually buy clearance maternity clothes. I love mine and wore a pair of maternity pants after my son bc it didn't rub against my c section scar.
Re: I can't bring myself to buy maternity clothes
What's the rush, right?

If you're still comfortable in your regular clothes, I envy you. No need to spend money on clothes you'll only wear a few months!
