Any Tattooed Mamas Out There?

edited May 2015 in November 2015 Moms
I don't know about anyone else, but I love my tattoos. I want more after my little is here. Anyone else have any (how many)? Want more? How do you feel about your child seeing them and possibly growing up to want them? I have a full sleeve that continues on to my back, thigh piece, foot piece, big side piece, chest piece, and a bunch of other random ones. Too many to count. Just thought it would be interesting to see if there's any November soon-to-be moms with any ink. :D

Re: Any Tattooed Mamas Out There?

  • Heya! I have both my arms, my foot, my side, and a silly one on the inside of my lip. I plan on getting my side redone after the baby. I love my tattoos! I definitely think it's way less unusual to be a tattooed mama nowadays. My husband doesn't have a single one so I'll be curious to see which direction the kiddo ends up going in.

I only have one very tame tattoo that I got on my right foot - it was a Christmas present and my sister got a matching one.  It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would - in fact, in only hurt at all in one little spot kind of on the top of the foot.  I do want more, I just don't like spending the money because I'm super paranoid about money right now.  Maybe after the baby comes and I kind of get a feel for how it's going to impact us financially I won't feel so bad about setting a little aside for some frivolous things but I want a new gun more than a new tattoo lol

They won't let you get tattooed when you're pregnant anyway. Gives ya plenty of time to save up! :)

@thefithuntress Hubby doesn't have any? Yes I'm definitely curious too. Haha. My boyfriend has almost a full sleeve, a big piece on his back and his side. It's crazy because who knows, by the time our kids are old enough tattoos may be out lol. It'll be interesting to see.

@Kitta+1 Exactly, you have some time to save lol, and maybe even get something meaningful that has to do with baby. ;)

I have three: a small one on my ankle that my little sister did when she was an apprentice tattoo artist & I was one of her first clients, a small one on my lower back that I got on a whim on a beach trip, and my favorite on my upper right back/shoulder - 2 birds (swallows) about to take off flying from a tree branch with the number 26.2 below it. It was a gift to myself after finishing my 10th full marathon.

I want another but my husband isn't crazy about them. I also have a 17-year-old daughter, but she has a severe fear of needles so I can't imagine her getting one any time soon.
  • @tayzav Not one! I actually only seriously dated one guy with tattoos ever. But he does have a gigantic beard. He's still a stud. ;)

I have 6, though they're all small. My SO has 2. We'll probably both get something for baby later on.

  • The top of my back is almost covered and then a few more on my legs. My hubby has two full sleeves and then chest, back, calfs, shoulders, etc. Practically everyone I know here in Cali has them. My kids will be free to choose for themselves. My hub says that he only has one rule; no visible tats until they are 25. (As in can't be hidden by t-shirt etc). Once they are old enough to know what they really want, they can have at it.
  • I have a large tattoo on my left rib cage of an old compass wrapped in vines with my kids initials intertwined. I will, of course, add to it after this baby is born. It's only visible in a bathing suit, but my boys love to touch it and say "Pretty, mommy!".
  • Yes! I currently have 7 including a half sleeve and my hubby has 1. Even though my parents had none I loved ink as a child and new I'd get tattoos. . If my child feels the same way, that's fine by me...as long as he wait till he's 18!

I have three one on my back and the other two on my ribs. The one on my back I got when I was 15 with my mom and the other two are my children's names. I will be adding another one after this baby comes! I love my ink and would totally do more...maybe someday!

  • I have one on my foot, one on my wrist, and a big giving tree on my back! Thats my favorite book and I'm a special ed major :) my husband has a half sleeve, a huge one on his ribs, and pretty big chest piece. I plan to probably get one for baby after he/she is born!! And I'm sure my husband will too. My parents didn't have tattoos but they both do now! They got them after I did haha. The one on my wrist I got with my momma. :) I love my tattoos!
  • I have three. My first I got when I was 18 and it's a small one on my foot. I designed a side piece for my right side and on the left side of my ribs I have another one for my sister who passed away. I love them all and I can't wait to get one for DD and this little one on the way! My husband has two.
  • I have 3. On right side, wrist and shoulder blade. Got my first one when I was 19 and moved out of my moms house otherwise she told me she would burn it off if I got one. I believed her :-??
  • I have 5 and want so many more! I have both ribs done, a thigh, a half sleeve and a shoulder! I love all of them and don't care if my children want them! My husband has a bunch too and after baby is born I will definitely get more :)
  • I have three. One pretty big piece on my ribcage, one small one on my collarbone, and one on my wrist (DH has the same one. It's a Celtic symbol for power and balance). I have plans for my shoulder blade, but that will have to wait a while. I'm totally ok with the baby seeing them and asking what they are. I chose all of mine really thoughtfully and I would hope my child would do the same if/when he or she decides to get one.
  • I have two. One on my hip, that I designed, but really simple, and I recently got my second in February on the side of my foot of my daughter name, who passed away. I actually got it touched up while I was pregnant but didn't know it. I was only like 4 or 5 weeks. I don't think I'll be getting more, my husbands not a huge fan of tattoos on me but maybe one day! ;)

I've got two: some text on my ribcage and a pretty elaborate thigh piece that I got to cover up stretch marks that came as a result of puberty. I'm planning on another tattoo on the other thigh because I have some there as well that I'm not too fond of, and I'm dying for a half sleeve.
Tattoos are so common these days that I don't even think my kids, or any kids for that matter, will think twice about them.
  • I only have two but have a few more in mind after baby arrives. :)

Half sleeve on right arm planned to get full but busy, money and 3rd kid on the way. I have small rose on wrist. Couple smalls on back. My left leg has stars wrapped from toes to upper thigh. Both feet tattoed. My DH is pretty covered and some unfinished both want more.

ETA my kids are free to decided for themselves. DD1 said she wants a my little pony sleeve though haha
  • I have three! I have my husbands name twice which I get lots of judgement for so please don't judge me and I have a beautiful little chest piece and I plan on many more!! Before we found out I was actually planning a huge 12 hour thigh peice that will now be postponed until after the baby is born but I know it will worth the wait :) But my husband has my name 2 times and I have his name twice :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about not being able to get them while pregnant anyways - thanks ladies.  My fiancee has some tattoos - a dragon, an almost half sleeve and a Green Beret tribute to a situation he was in on his forearm.  That one cracks me up because it has a naked angel lady on it, and the positioning is just a tad low so when he wears a long sleeve shirt you can just see her butt cheeks hanging out on the inside of his wrist, hehe.

In agreement with a PP I also think it's a good idea to restrict teenagers to tattoos that can be covered.  I have the same restriction for myself because I still work in an industry where visible tattoos can make it hard to get work.  I don't agree with it - I don't think having something vulgar tattooed across your face is very professional, but the majority of tattoos that are not offensive really should have no bearing on your employability but that's just the way it is.  Eventually every young adult has to learn that the world isn't always fair and you do have to somewhat conform to society's rules if you want to get ahead in the game.  That doesn't mean throw all individuality to the wind, it just means being smart about how you express yourself and keeping in mind that people are judgmental and there's just not much to be done about that.

I love tattoos and have quite a few. My upper back is done, the left side of my ribcage, my left thigh and the bottom half of my right leg. I will definitely get more after this baby as well, I really want to start on a half or possibly full sleeve. My DH has quite a few as well. I have an almost 5 year old daughter and she really thinks nothing of it and never has. She will point out our tattoos and say she likes them (especially the one DH has with her name in it) but she never comments on how some people don't have any or some people are covered in them.

  • I have 2 tattoos both discreet. DH has a half sleeve on each arm one upper, one lower and a large leg piece. I was supposed to be next but this pregnancy came unexpected.
  • I've got three, one foot, shoulder blade and wrist. All small, but I get lots of positive comments when ppl do see them. I work with kids and they are always pointing them out. I have plans for kid related tattoos when baby gets here, and can't wait :). Hubby has 4, mostly on his leg. Told me he wants another one the other day...
don't care what my kids decide but they get to pay for them and nothing visible at least for their first one or two so they know. I have the cutest onesie saved on pinterest I can't wait to get
  • Wow! I'm totally shocked at the number amount of ink on this board. I don't have any and neither does DH. I don't have any problem with them, but there isn't anything I can think that I'd want. DH isn't a fan of the thought of them on me because he doesn't really think I could pull them off... I'm much less bad a$$ then I think I am.
  • My mom has about 13 tattoos. My dad has plenty himself. I personally never wanted any. Still don't. They want me to have some so bad. I won't care is my kids do either. Just not something I'm into.

@RaisingJulian I think it's awesome you've stuck to ur guns about the way you feel. That's pretty cool. Specially with both parents having them. So many people do things because everyone else is or because our parents did it or have it. Rock on girl. ;)
  • I have a super lame tattoo on my right shoulder blade that I got when I was 16. I hate it now and have toyed around with the idea of having it covered but I just haven't bothered planning anything. My husband also just hates tattoos and thinks I should just have it removed. So I'm kind of torn with what I should do.

I actually love tattoos. My bf before I started dating my husband had a full sleeve, was working on another sleeve and had some awesome chest and back pieces too.

I may explore my options again once I'm done having kids. It's also quite an investment if you want it done properly (you get what you pay for type of thing) and we have different financial obligations right now.

I have a small one on my hip (some flowy hearts - my own design) that I got around the same time as my husband got his second.  We didn't want to do names or anything that straight-up matched.  He has a Rob Zombie drawing on his left shoulder and the Hitchhiker's Guide puzzle on his right calf, which was the original book cover.  We each have something we want from Weird Al's song "Another Tattoo," for our next ones.

I have wanted to do a large Giving Tree piece on my side for so long!  I love the book.  Also wanted to give some love to special ed teachers.  My daughter would be lost without you guys.

I currently only have one on my shoulder blade.  I gave it to myself after my divorce was finalized.  It's a dandelion blowing into birds flying away.  I definitely want more.  The side piece of the Giving Tree and I'd like to continue my existing tattoo into a bird themed quarter or full sleeve.

I've been meaning to post a picture since a few of you did, I like seeing people's work and ideas and different personalities. This is really the only picture I can find (that shows a few of mine) as I deleted my FB and all my stuff was on that not Instagram. You can kinda see my style. For my sleeve I went for Sailor Jerry, Pin-up-ish theme.

My brother has a sleeve, a chest piece and a few others (including a keg that was a dare). I love his chest piece it's a sailor Jerry style piece with a pair of swallows. I love that style.
  • I have a small 4 leaf clover on my side. I had it done on my 18th birthday and it has been my reminder that luck is always on my side! After the baby is here, I'd like to get another small one for my 2 kids.
  • I have two.  One on my ankle to cover a scar from surgery and one on my lower back that I got when I lost half of my weight from surgery.  :)  Definately want to get more but just have to wait til after LO is here.

I've got 3. My favourite is one on my neck which has my kids birthday in Roman numerals- it's my favourite as they have the same birthday just 2 years apart! When this baby comes il have its birthday added to it somehow And I have a list of a few tattoos that I want eventually so will be saving for. My kiddies love my "drawings" and if they grow up wanting a tattoo id be completely supportive. I would just want to make sure it's something they love and really want, as I love each of mine and they each have a story.

My husband doesn't have any, so they will see both sides as they grow up and can decide for themselves :) my mother in law hates tattoos.. Which make them all the sweeter

I have husband's name on one collarbone, a huge quote for DS on my arm and a few others. DH has two sleeves, chest, back, and a few leg tattoos. Everyone in our family is tattooed except my dad, so I'm sure DS will want some in the future.
  • I've got one (go big or go home!) of a claddagh ring that starts in the back and wraps around both sides into a tree of life at my sternum. You can only really see it in a bikini and so far my son (18mo) hasn't noticed. My parents didn't have any and neither does DH. I agree with others that I would support it when they are old enough to make that kind of permanent decision! I will probably get another piece at some point if I can think of the right thing or inspiration strikes, oh and if I have $$$!
  • I have a bunch of colorful tattoos (some pretty large) and my husband has zero. I have a sleeve, half-sleeve, a poem that my grandma wrote across my shoulder blades, and a large one on my side that extends from my bra strap to my underwear line and am curious to see how my pregnancy will affect it. I've got several more that are a little smaller too in various spots. My husband and I are both pretty creative so hopefully our baby will inherit it from us!
