Same here it's really bad, I have been throwing up because of it also. My dr warned me about taking too many tums- calcium build up. And she suggested mylanta- works as best it can.

My doctor told me mylanta, maalox, zantac, and Pepcid ac are fine to take.
  • Try sleeping with your head up on a wedge pillow. Does not help during the day but it kept the heartburn from waking me up at night.

  • I read somewhere that raw (from the mother) apple cider vinegar also helps with that.

Also diet helps. Acidic and greasy food make heartburn worse.
  • My midwife advised: Organic apple cider vinegar- 1 teaspoon mixed in a glass of water. 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda mixed in 8oz of water. Papaya extract. Or take a spoon full of chia seeds.

I was getting pretty bad heartburn and reflux in the afternoons last week. She also told me to eat more freaquently. I've been having a snack in the afternoons and haven't been getting the heartburn. Good luck I know that symptom sucks.
  • Milk! Cold glass of milk! Its just melts away. Just sucks when youre out and about and can't get to any. Ranitidine doesn't work. :(
  • Lurker here--I take prescription Omeprazole, which is essentially the same as Prilosec OTC. Works like a charm (and it is approved by my OB)

I have prescription ranitidine and you can't take it during a flare up because then it won't work.. I take it in the morning right when I wake up then I'm ok.. Be careful doing too much milk too because it does help but it can't make the flare ups worst later so just limit the milk intake but yes milk does help.. I have had acid reflux for almost a year and a half now and since being pregnant it has gotten worst.. And if you drink a small glass of milk and just sit up straight for a little bit and maybe eat something small like crackers it will help the feeing go away in a couple of minutes.. That what I'm doing now before I take my ranitidine at night and it helps..
  • I take prescription lansoprazole(Prevacid), but I also had bad acid reflux before pregnancy and Dr is worried about a recurrence of esophagitis from a few years ago. Daily medications like Prilosec and Prevacid don't treat heartburn immediately, they prevent it by being taken daily.

Chewable papaya enzymes. You can get them in bottles and rolls (like Tums) at health food stores. I get mine at Fred Meyer in the organic section.
