Is anyone else an RN? I'm finding the end of my 12 hour shifts difficult to keep my eyes open! And I feel the urge to wear a mask all the time in case a patient gets put on contact precautions later. X_X
I'm a RN too. Yeah I hate contact rooms. I'm going to talk to some of the girls at work that that have already been through pregnancy. I'm not any more tired than normal so far but I'm only 5 weeks 4 days. So I'll keep you posted on how I hold up. Thinking of you!
I am also a RN! That's my main symptom right now is fatigue so I def feel your pain! I recently did 3 in a row and was done after the first day haha I actually should have known I was pregnant because thinking back I started getting exhausted at work at points in the day I usually would have been fine even before I got the positive test!
I am & boy do those days drag. I got curious about pregnancy as well because I would have only one cup of coffee a day and by lunch time I was drinking another from th exhaustion. What are some ways you ladies are Staying hydrated & eating while working?
I'm a RN as well. I almost fell asleep at the nurse's station! I keep a liter water bottle at the nurse's station and stash snacks in the kitchenette. 6 of my co-workers are pregnant and they are just super vigilant with hand hygiene. It helps that flu season is over here in Oregon.
I'm a CRNA - wondering about patient transfers, moving beds and doing some big exertions. Thinking it can't be good for me or the baby! I sympathize with those of you who work 12 hours shifts - I was there once, and admire you all for doing it!!
I'm not an RN, but I am an SLP working in a medical setting. Having lots of anxiety about contact precautions, cleanliness, and whether or not someone has shingles or something else I don't know about! Fatigued too! Running around all day taking care of patients is tiring and I definitely feel for those of you on 12 hr shifts. I definitely hydrate and eat big healthy meals! I don't usually do well with snacking and don't have time anyway!

The transfers concern me too. I end up transferring a patient or moving them up in bed and then think "hmm maybe shouldn't have done that." One of our techs and 2 day nurses are also pregnant. We have some very combative patients currently and I all but refuse to take the worst one who is fond of kicking midsections. [-X
Night shift RN here. Unpurposefully I've been doing 60 hour weeks the last couple of weeks and I'm exhausted. I feel like my brain isn't functioning properly by the 4th or 5th night. To top it off I'm getting easily irritated by patients... I'm normally very patient and sweet with even the most obnoxious people. Not so much right now. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband and my coworkers for putting up with me.
I'm a CMA and I literally can't stand the smell of alcohol or blood right now and it's definitely making my job more difficult I only work 10 hours a day 3 days a week thankfully. By the end of the day I'm exhausted and have lost all my patience with people. My empathy and sympathy had decreased big time so it takes everything I have to smile and nod at difficult patients
Respiratory Therapy here! I'm 7w now and with having no real bad symptoms I'm doing good on 12 hrs shifts! I'm concerned for when we have to do CPR (mainly compressions), you think it's ok?
I'm also a RN working 12 hour night shifts. It has been really tough the past few weeks. Hopefully by second trimester we will all feel better. I have not been sleeping well either grr I think CPR will be ok as long as you don't do it for too long and someone can rotate with you.
I'm an RN on 12 hour days and it's been a rough 2 1/2 weeks since finding out. Between the total exhaustion and cutting out coffee, my extra sensitive nose and all the lovely smells of floor nursing I was already finding 12 hour shifts that much more exhausting, then the morning sickness finally kicked in full swing this morning before work. Definitely wondering how to make it through the next 6-8 weeks. I've been keeping a water bottle on me as much as management will allow and honestly I had a ziplock with a few triscuits in it in my pocket today for when I got super queasy. Have you guys told your coworkers yet? I haven't but feel like I will have to soon with all this going on
I'm also a RN, I work 12-13 hours plus an hour drive, it's killing me! By 3-4 I can't remember anything and I feel like I must sleep. Plus I work ED im terrified of all the crap people have cuz we never know till we admit them
Omg so excitedto have RNs in the club! I am an RN and have been extra tired with no coffee!!! Snippy at times with difficult patients and soo tired after 12 HR night shifts. Switching jobs in a few weeks to day surgery. No nausea thank goodness. I too want to mask up for all potential future contact patients. You are not alone! Keep me posted on your new symptoms ladies! Makes me feel not so crazy or alone!
ER day shift RN here, I do 12s. I am currently 5 weeks along. I could sleep standing up! Feeling pretty good otherwise, but I'm just waiting for morning sickness.... Trying to keep this little bundle under wraps, we will just have to see how long that lasts. I have been stepping out of traumas and anything else that could radiate us.
I'm in RN school. I graduate in September !! I've been an LPN for 7 years and yes, I agree these 12s are kicking my butt and I'm only 5 weeks and 1 day!!!
I recently left my job as a CNA right before i conceived ( call it womens intuition?) I started a phlebotomy class and I'll do clinicals at the same hospital I left- which is a big hospital in the area I live in. My clinicals are 3 12hr shifts- I remember how tired I was before baby... I know how tired and forgetful I am now.. And this nausea will all the the death of me.
I'm an RN and am 6w along with my second baby. I have been sick as a dog since I found out I was pregnant(about 3.5 weeks). Being sick sure makes long shifts tough. I was in nursing school when I was pregnant with my first and ended up losing almost 20 pounds because I couldn't eat anything. I can handle the fatigue, it's the extreme nausea and vomiting that get me...
I also work at a hospital as a cna and we do 12 hour shifts too. Been thinking about switching to days because I can't function !! I am so tired all the time and I'm only 5 weeks
I'm a nurse I'm from ireland though my nursing friends know I'm pregnant because I thought I miscarried last week and I found out at work the blood has started to double no so I don't know I'm praying for a miracle I have smother scan next Monday
Recently I had to float to a med surg psych floor & those patients are very combative so I was kind of forced to tell my charge nurse. Although we are all like a family & many of us are TTC I wanted to keep it quiet. I think she may have told a few of my coworkers despite telling me she wouldn't. I'm only 7 weeks 2 days. I have my first appointment on my birthday, next Friday! (: I'm going to have to tell my coworkers soon because I've needed assistance lifting & moving patients. Plus I am exhausted!
