My family still jokes about my water breaking with my first- I had just come home from the gym/pool and dropped my keys while trying to open my front door. I bent over to pick them up, heard the pop, and felt it running down my legs. They haven't let me bend over at all for the past month & my husband has a picnic tablecloth in the car to protect my seat. It was very accurate for me that I would "gush" when I changed positions after a few minutes so I didn't have the doubts about whether I had an "accident" or if my water broke. I'm nervous this time around with baby #2 that I won't know for sure if it's go time if my water doesn't break since I have had irregular but effective contractions with both pregnancies. (My first came quickly & I'm afraid I'll wait too long this time). Even though I've been through this before, I'll admit it is still somewhat scary & definitely exciting (and I still feel like I don't know anything lol). Good luck & good health everyone!!
I just took a birth class last week and our instructor suggested that we keep a garbage bag inside the glove compartment of our car just in the event of water breaking while out and about. She warned that amniotic fluid DOES stain because it is a protein, so beware. She also told us that any of the cleaning products made for animal urine on fabric usually will get rid of the stain should your water break somewhere unexpected. I hope this helps!

As far as the anticipation goes, I'm in the exact same boat! We're having twins this time and I've already gone to triage twice convinced I was in preterm labor but had negative FFN results and only at 1 cm both times. Hoping my water breaks this time coz APPARENTLY I have no idea when my body's in labor even though we have a 1 year old lol
Thought I would update since I was the original poster-my water breaking ended up being my first sign of labor! And it was a gushhh.. Got up to pee in the middle of the night-had a tiny pop then a puddle on the floor. Then more gushing/leaking up til delivery. Looking back I was likely "in labor" the day/evening before but didn't realize it (back pain, slightly more regular-but still painless-contractions.) Delivered Thursday at 39.3
Re: Stupid question about water breaking.
I hope this helps!
