missing dog:update (not good news)

My beloved 11 year old Jack Russell mix has been missing now for over 3 hours. Somehow while I was at work my daughter wasn't careful enough and she got out the yard. She went looking for her twice to no avail. I'm hoping she hasn't been hit by a car and she returns. She is so ornery I don't think she would let anyone near enough to steal her but you never know. She didn't have on her tags however she is microchipped. I'm a little numb and not sure how I feel but I'm not happy.

Oh no! Keep the gates to your yard opened and some food on the door steps. You never know.
I hope you find your pup soon
  • Oh no! I hope you find your fur baby!

Ugh I hate that!!! One time our dog was lost for hours. Someone found her several blocks away at an interactive fountain park happily chilling with picnickers and kids playing in the fountain. We had put up fliers and someone saw our flier and called us.

Another time someone stole our mini pit from BIL's backyard. We found her because of fliers and a FB photo we posted to every rescue page in our area. We got her back because the good man who bought her (he didn't know she was stolen) did the right thing when he saw our FB post going around.

Point being: make fliers! Put the word out if you still haven't caught her running around the neighborhood. It means more eyes on the lookout.

  • I'm so sorry! Please keep us updated
  • I'm so sorry! Make sure you call your local shelter to see if someone brought her in, and try and post flyers and on the internet. If she's not home in the a.m ask your mailman if he's seen her running around, they drive around the whole neighborhood and would be a good person to ask. I've found several runaways and if it's late I always keep them overnight and the call the tag or bring them to a vet for the microchip scan in the morning, don't lose hope!

I'm so sorry! Make flyers, post to Facebook and call or go to the local shelter in the morning. This happened to my Aunt a few weeks ago. Her pup ended up at the shelter and they didn't have a microchip scanner!
  • Make sure you call the local shelter, also call your local animal control and find out where they impound any animals they pick  up. And bring fliers into all the local vets to post in case someone brings her in. Also, make sure your fliers have good pictures on them that make it easy to identify your dog and include detailed information such as the crossroads where you live, whether she is spayed or not, how old she is, that she is a she, any identifiable markings, and that she is microchipped. And post to your local Facebook lost and found pets group. Also posting fliers around the neighborhood will help because the odds are really good that someone has seen her running around.

And in the future, make sure she is always wearing her collar with updated tags attached! I work at an animal shelter and I am always amazed at the number of dogs we get in whose owners don't keep collars with tags on them for non-medical reasons, or have tags without current phone numbers. Sorry, I'm not trying to lecture, but it's really sad when we get an old dog in who has obviously been well-loved and is never reclaimed, but for health or behavior reasons, we can't adopt out.

Our dog ran off while fishing/camping with my husband in February on a island in the north Everglades. He searched for the entire weekend for the dog, and couldn't find him. A WEEK later, fishermen called us and had found him on another island! Apparently our dog who we thought wasn't much of a swimmer is very good at it!
I totally understand your stress and sadness. That was a really tough week for us. Praying that your dog is found safe and sound!
  • Any update? Did you find your doggy? I'd be beyond upset, my little dog means the world to me. Praying you get your buddy home safe and soon. Keep us posted!

No, no word yet. I'm going out tonight to put up fliers when I get home from work and to knock on doors.
I spent all morning, after locking myself out because I was so distraught calling the chip comoany, filing lost reports, making craigslist ads, etc.....I'm mentally drained.
  • If it's any consolation, my dog ran away, and was gone for 3 days. She was picked up by a lady in my neighborhood, and I guess I walked by her house yelling my dogs name, and Jelly (my dog) started freaking out. She was safe, taken care of and was only 5 blocks away. I cried for the 3 days she was gone, but she was returned to me. I hope your pup gets returned to you soon. Best wishes!
  • Thanks guys...
  • Ohhh nooo, keep us posted. Hope all turns out well Hun xx
  • @mybabynumber2 thanks doll, me too. I'm hungry and can't sleep so I'm fighting back tears. ..
  • I bet you are ma luv. I know how much you love your dog! all that walking. I'd be the same if it was our Mia.
Just hoping that there's someone kind who finds her and does the right thing and returns her home.

Did you manage to put any fliers or anything up sweet?

Got everything crossed for you here xx

    @pregat40 any news Hun?

@mybabynumber2 yes, unfortunately sje had been killed by a hit and run driver. I posted fliers and the woman that witnessed it and called the police called me after she recognized Gigi on the flier. This was the worst thing any pregnant woman wants to hear. I'm taking it so hard.....
  • Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Sending positive thoughts your way.
