Re: GTKY: Your Wedding
1. How long were you engaged: 1 year
2. Where/how did he propose: We went on a dinner cruise on the bay celebrating what I thought was just for my DH's graduation from nursing school. He took me to the top of the boat after sunset and got down on one knee and proposed. He was so nervous before then at dinner, I knew something was up, lol.
3. What is your anniversary: August 10, 2013
4. What were your wedding colors: My bridesmaids wore a light cyan blue. My flowers were blue orchids and white roses.
5. Describe your venue(s): We got married at a women's club that we rented out that had a really pretty botanical garden in the back overlooking the ocean. We had an ocean starfish theme. The reception was inside. We did our first look pictures at some cliffs overlooking the ocean.
6. What was your wedding song: We did a surprise first dance where we started off slow dancing to "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill but then we danced to a bunch of small snippets of songs that were like salsa, hip hop, pop, etc. My DH even did push ups (he's in the military so that made him really happy). We really surprised his family with this dance because he is not really the dancing type
7. What flavor of cake did you have: We had cupcakes made by my DH's cousin arranged in a cupcake tower with a small cake on top. We had all different flavors chocolate, vanilla, cherry, funfetti but I was so busy I only took a bite of the small cake on top when my DH and I fed each other.
8. Describe your dress: It was white, had about 1 inch lace straps, and was really flowy with chiffon. I loved that dress.
9. Anything else that made your wedding extra-special: We had a photo booth and it seemed to keep people entertained. I was really happy to have my 86 year old Grandma and my 82 year old Grandpa there. I treasure every moment with them because I don't know how much longer I will have them.
10. Where did you go for your honeymoon? We went on a 3 or 4 day cruise to Mexico (Ensanada) and Catalina Island. Ensanada wasn't that great but Catalina was beautiful and we had a lot of fun on the ship.
1. How long were you engaged: two years and five months! We were engaged longer than we weren't.
2. Where/how did he propose: I proposed to him! At the busstop. Dayum. We'd just returned from my parents', where we'd had an absolutely amazing St Nicholas Eve's party. When we got back to our home town, we went out to dinner together and after that I just felt so happy to be with him, I told him "I really feel like asking you to marry me". He said, "Why don't you, then?", so I did and he said yes. Not very romantic, but something to tell the grandkids all the same. :P (We'd kind of agreed earlier that we would probably get married one day, though.)
3. What is your anniversary: April 7, 2015.
4. What were your wedding colors: Wedding colours aren't really a thing over here. You only have two 'witnesses' (usually a woman for the bride and a man for the groom, but there's no real rule about that), no other bridesmaids, and they get to choose their own outfit. The only rule related to colour is that only the bride wears white. But I went and wore a bright pink dress.
5. Describe your venue(s): We quickly went by city hall with just our two witnesses, and then we had a reception/big four-course dinner in the courtyard/café of Doorwerth Castle where we also had a short ceremony of exchanging rings.
6. What was your wedding song: We didn't have one. DH doesn't really like being the centre of attention and 'our song' (that we put on whenever we're cleaning the house and then sing to each other) is called 'Smotherin' me' and isn't very wedding appropriate.
7. What flavor of cake did you have: We had vanilla cake with layers of raspberry buttercream, chocolate buttercream and raspberry jam. It looked amazing and tasted even better. Definitely the best cake I ever had.
8. Describe your dress: Bright pink/fushia, strapless and just below the knee, sweatheart neckline. The bottom part was really flowy and the bodice had loads of bling. Sounds quite atrocious, but it was really tasteful. DH was pleasantly surprised - he knew it was pink before the day and was a bit worried it would be super tacky.
9. Anything else that made your wedding extra-special: It was really just a combination of everything. The food completely exceeded our expectations and it was awesome to have all our friends and family together. Our mistress of ceremony had asked everyone to send in their favourite recipe and turned it into a cookbook for us, which was a really lovely gift.
10. Where did you go for your honeymoon? Greece! We went to Athens for just a few days but we did and saw so much. Definitely going back some day.
Not everyone can breastfeed - Mammary Hypoplasia/Insufficient Glandular Tissue Awareness
I wasn't planning on a pink dress; I had a white fifties model ('tea length' with a very wide skirt) all picked out, but then 7 weeks before the wedding the alterations department was all "Actually, this dress is way too small for you and there's no way we could ever make it fit".

Side note just to get it off my chest: this ain't & uncle have a huge, gorgeous house, BUT they also have security cameras in every single room besides the bathrooms. So as I'm typing, I'm on camera. Would anyone else find this completely creepy/ unnerving?
@DutchLucyLu, that castle is beautiful!
2. Where/how did he propose: At our apartment after my birthday dinner. It was a present inside a present and took me a while to find haha.
3. What is your anniversary: June 30, 2012
4. What were your wedding colors: Royal blue & yellow. Bridesmaids wore royal blue dresses and carried yellow calla lilies (MOH carried a mix of yellow & white), and my bouquet was white calla lilies, blue hydrangea, delphinium, and yellow spray roses.
5. Describe your venue(s): An old beautiful mansion downtown. Ceremony & cocktail hour were outside.
6. What was your wedding song: Everything by Lifehouse
7. What flavor of cake did you have: white almond with strawberry mousse, marble with white chocolate mousse, and chocolate with Bavarian cream. Everything was buffet, even the cake, so people could choose what flavor they wanted.
8. Describe your dress: White lace, trumpet, strapless, $99 haha.
9. Anything else that made your wedding extra-special: Everything went off without a hitch!
10. Where did you go for your honeymoon?: St Maarten. A tropical depression had just gone through so it wasn't as nice as it could have been.
2. Where/how did he propose: We go on vacation every year with his family to a lake resort. The first day we went straight to the lake to swim and drink beer etc by the lake. He asked me if I wanted to go for a ride in his dad's boat so we did. We went waaaay out on the lake away from everyone on shore. Here's the funny part. We were looking around at the beautiful water when he asked me if I wanted a beer and I did. When I looked over he had pulled a ring box out of the cooler and was on one knee! It was beautiful and I loved every minute -it felt like "us". And then we were able to go back to shore and surprise everyone with the news!
3. What is your anniversary: 9.15.12
4. What were your wedding colors: We had a fall wedding so our colors were burlap, lace and fall leaves.
5. Describe your venue(s): it was just a ballroom in town where DH's family lives. They did a great job decorating it and it had a really cool built in oak bar area.
6. What was your wedding song: Our first dance was First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes. Not a traditional song but we like it- look it up!
7. What flavor of cake did you have: really yummy chocolate cupcakes on a tower with a top layer mini cake to cut. We saved that layer in the freezer and at it on our first anniversary- it was actually really good!
8. Describe your dress: Champagne colored silky strapless with a lot of swirly rouching (sp)? Going down the bodice and the bottom flared out with a bubble hem for the most gorgeous hem.
9. Anything else that made your wedding extra-special: for my bouquet my mom and I collected antique and new brooches and pinned them into a bunch of hydrangeas in the same color as my dress. Some of the brooches were borrowed from our grandmothers and I even had one blue brooch. So my bouquet was my "somthing old, new, borrowed, and blue!"
10. Where did you go for your honeymoon? We spent a week aways, half at a resort on the north shore of Lake Superior and half at the casino! Lol

2. At home in bed. I picked my ring out and knew it was in the house already but he planned to sit on it for a little while and surprise me. It last about 4 hours, he said it was burning a whole in his pocket.
3. Anniversary is April 27, 2013.
4. Our wedding colors were raspberry, peach, and champagne.
5. Venue: Country Club in our hometown that looks out over the Berkshire Mountains in MA. We had a long winter and it wasn't even green yet...I was beyond mad about that.
6. Only You Can Love Me This Way by Keith Urban
7. Our cake was peach flavored with raspberry filling. It was delicious, we used a local woman instead of a bakery and she makes her cakes the day before, only one a weekend, so it's very fresh. Soooo good.
8. Full lace fit and flare style with the corset back.
9. It was freezing for April! We had rain, but thankfully it stopped before pictures and held off the rest of the night.
10. No honeymoon. We did 3 nights at a local hotel so we had some alone time. We were home for 10 days for the wedding and figured that was enough time!
1 year 1 month
2. Where/how did he propose: We and our closest friends took a trip down to the Smoky Mountains in TN. We actually stayed in my FIL's cabin in Pigeon Forge. Anyway, the one thing I really wanted to do was go to Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga because we were told you could see 5 states at that elevation. So we ride the insanely steep trolley to top and go to the main lookout. I was adjusting binoculars for one of our friends and when I turned around DH was down on one knee. I learned that day that my surprised face happens to look a lot like my horrified face so DH barely squeaked out the words "will you marry me" - I still haven't lived that down.
3. What is your anniversary: August 30 2014
4. What were your wedding colors: yellow and gray
5. Describe your venue(s): it was a country club that had great prices and good food. The staff was really helpful

We got married at my parents church, the church I grew up in that has beautiful stained glass all over, wooden cathedral ceilings and a big pipe organ. Then we went to a place that was part resuarant part reception holder. It wasn't the most glamorous but to afford everyone we had, that was the route we had to go.
6. What was your wedding song:
Very cliche, but train's marry me. They had a first dance mix of it that we used.

Where/how did he propose: we were on a fishing trip off the west coast of BC Canada and one morning he went out and he put the ring (a fake one) in a crab trap and dropped it to the bottom of the ocean! Later that day we went out together to check the traps and he pulled it out and proposed! It was adorable- and scary haha! Got the real ring when we got home!
3. What is your anniversary: Aug 11 2012
4. What were your wedding colors: purple and white
5. Describe your venue(s): my in laws property. Back yard wedding with a huge tent. It was a beautiful hot sunny day. The ceremony was at the back of the property down in a meadow and the reception was under the big tent. We did a pig roast on a spit and it was amazing.

10. Where did you go for your honeymoon?

2. Where/how did he propose: His plan was to do it while ice skating. He got really nervous that he was going to loose the ring while we were skating so he didn't do it there. Then it started pouring outside which meant his backup plan was now out (do it in this park with these really pretty walking trails). He ended up taking me to the mall and proposed outside the coffee shop where we ended our first date. It was actually really cute. So we cancelled the trip to Kauai and instead did a pre-wedding honeymoon (I guess you'd call it?) We flew out to California early, went to the Bottle Rock music festival in Napa and then drove down and spent 2 nights in Carmel.
Awesome ideas, I love weddings
I miss the planning so much lol.
1. How long were you engaged: About a year and a half
2. Where/how did he propose: It was December and we were going on a "day date" ice skating, light display, Christmas shopping and dinner in a nearby town. I found out afterwards that he was trying to propose all day but "it wasn't right." Anyways after dinner we were walking back to our car and there was a bridge lit up with Christmas lights and fake snow was falling- he stopped randomly on the bridge and I turned back around to ask what he was doing and he was down on one knee. I was freaking out and crying so much I couldn't even say yes for so long. Afterwards we went to my parents house where they were having a dinner party and toasted with champagne and dessert- my Mom had been waiting by the phone all day for the call LOL. We were laying in bed talking about the day and random things when he said "You're the best girlfriend in the world, and I want you to be the best fiance in the world". 4. What were your wedding colors: Royal Blue and Silver
5. Describe your venue(s): It was a decent venue for a small wedding. Nothing special about it.

7. What flavor of cake did you have: We were super classy and got a cheese cake and a red velvet cake from costco.
8. Describe your dress: Here's the super awesome part! I bought my dress from Ross for $20. I was very lucky when my bff texted me describing the dress she bought to wear to my wedding. It was the same dress in a different color. Thank god she told me before showing up in it.
9. Anything else that made your wedding extra-special: Where do i start?! My parents refused to come. The only family member I had there was 1 of my 3 brothers and he refused to walk me down the isle. So my ex-boyfriends father walked me down the isle! He was the closest I had to a father at the time. My ex- boyfriend also came uninvited. No one there talked to me because I didn't know anyone besides my few friends that showed up. The few that did talk to me only wanted to tell me how sorry they are that my parents didn't come. Thanks for reminding me!! It was literally the worst day of my life.
10. Where did you go for your honeymoon? We went home. Home was a house that one of my then husbands friends owned but was being foreclosed and we had 3 months to live there for free before we had to find our own place. Also we had no jobs.
