Vent: Almost 24 hours of contractions so far...

After 9 months of having no idea what any type of contraction felt like, I've been having semi regular contractions since about the same time last night. Last night they were 3-6 min apart and I was so excited! But they weren't painful really so H and I tried to get some sleep. This morning they still weren't that painful but I called the hospital at about 7am. Since I could talk just fine through them they told me to stay home. Lost at least part of my mucus plug with a consistent light bloody show for most of the day. Contractions definitely got stronger by noon and have been at the same intensity or higher since then but they are now getting further apart and never consistent!!! Theyve been anywhere between 5 and 11 minutes apart. Im getting so tired of timing them. The doc I talked to was pretty firm about the 5-1-1 rule unless my water breaks or I'm bleeding more. The hospital is also 30-60 min away so i dont want to go unless we know its "go time." This is sooo frustrating!! I wanted to work up until I gave birth and this whole day has seemed like a waste. My 8 week mat leave is so precious and that's what upsetting me most now :'(

  • I just posted about the same thing! I ended up going to the hospital after about 10 hours because I was preterm labor at 36 weeks and they expected me to deliver early because of that. Contractions even got stronger & had been losing my mucus plus and spotting the past couple days. I thought for sure this was the real deal.. When I got there, they monitored me and everything was good to go then I stopped dilating.. And was sent home

Yep...going on 48 hours of them two to three minutes apart. Nothing severe enough to go in but annoying enough to be really uncomfortable. I worked today like a crazy person trying to get everything wrapped up, and I'll be a little bummed if he takes his sweet time now. I feel your pain....literally. :)
  • DD2 was a 40 hour labor :/

Could you sleep through them? My contractions were just like that. Very sporadic but kept getting more and more painful. I wanted to stick to the 5 1 1 rule too but my husband convinced me to go in after 15 hours of contractions. Turns out I was 5cm dilated and fully efaced. Had my baby just 5 hours later. Might be best to start going to the hospital since you're far away! Good luck!!!!
  • Yeah this sounds like me! I woke up on Friday morning at 5 w contractions every 15 min. They lasted all day and at 2am sat morning I went in to L&d. My contractions stayed 8 min apart for a few hrs so they didn't know if it was early labor or false labor. They were really strong and I was in a lot of pain. I was so exhausted so they gave med and I was able to sleep. They stopped until we got home. All day sat and all day Sunday I have intense contractions every 10-15 min(and some were lasting 5-10 min) Monday morning I called my mom crying because I was in so much pain and even though they were still not 5min apart she convinced me to go to the hospital. By the time we were there they were 2min apart. I had my baby girl 4hrs later!
  • Ladies, I feel you! Contractions 6-10 minutes apart since Monday. 2cm dilated and doctor said cervix is definitely getting softer but no luck yet. Contractions are definetly getting more painful, too. Hoping it doesn't keep up like this for too much longer :(
  • How far along are you? Do you have an appointment soon? I think I would head in just to see what's going on down there. You could be further along than you think and can labor it out there.

  • Thanks ladies for all your input/experience! We ended up going to the hospital last night after about 28 hours since the contractions were finally getting more regular and really painful. We were there for 4 hours which invoked 2 hrs of walking around the hospital. I was having them every 2 minutes and they hurt so bad I couldn't walk through them but they said my cervix was the same as my doc appointment on Weds so they made me go home! I hate the term false labor. It sounds pretty damn real to me! :( they could t even really tell me when to come back since I followed the 511 rule...awesome.

Had so much trouble sleeping through them last night and I'm still getting them strongly today but not as bad as yesterday...now 48 hours later. This is rough. Good luck ladies.
  • Ugh I am so sorry!! Yesterday morning I lost my mucus plug. 4 hrs later I started cramping, and having contractions. I had them all night and today they haven't let up. They aren't close enough together to go into L&D. My body has been cleaning itself out all day and I have lost my appetite. So uncomfortable and wishing it will either stop or the contractions will intensify so I can go get checked. I am a STM and just woke up in labor with my first, so this is completely different! So uncomfortable and frustrating!
  • Agh yes! Slowly but surely since 1am today I've had increasing contractions, that were down to 4 minutes apart. Then out of nowhere they got super intense but dropped back to 8 minutes apart, where I started at 1am. I was bleeding quite a bit, and so was checked at dr. office. But sent home to labor more at 2cm and 75% effaced. I hope this little girl comes out soon! Good luck to all of you out there. I'm just glad to have smartly scheduled my maternity leave to start tomorrow!!!
  • In the same boat! Tuesday doctor appointment said 2.5 cm 80%. I've had contractions 10-12 mins apart for the last week. We'll today I noticed the contractions were stronger and getting closer together. Jumped to 8 mins apart, and then 5 mins. I waited a few hours at home to see if anything would change (I've been in for false labor 4 times already). The contractions got stronger to the point where I couldn't walk or talk though them. Decided to follow the 511 rule and went in. Hooked me up, showing contractions every 5 mins...and my cervix hasn't changed at all...so...back home I go!
Very frustrating, and I feel stupid because apparently it's false laborn again. I asked the nurse what I should do since I followed the 511 rule and she said " the best advice I can give is you'll just know when it's the real thing"..

Well...crap...I thought THIS time was the real thing. :-/
  • Are you ladies having difficulty sleeping through the night and getting rest? Have your contractions stopped at all if it's been going on for more than a day? I'm approaching day 4 of this and most of the time the pain is horrible although I have been able to get some sleep. Thinking about calling the doc today to see if they can induce me early. I can't see myself going through this until my schedule induction on Tuesday but I'm not sure if that's the right move even if they do allow it. :/
  • Mine have been getting more intense and regular in the evening but seem to pretty much calm down as soon as I go to sleep. I wake up and they're ok but by about 5pm they're starting again. Every night I think - this is it and then nothing. I'm getting emotionally drained by this. I have also resigned myself to induction next week if this doesn't progress further. I'm 41w tomorrow and 4-5 dilated, 80% effaced. I'm seeing an acupuncturist for the second time this morning and if that doesn't do it I'm stopping all the labour induction mumbo jumbo and I'm going to relax until I get induced. I don't care how anymore - I just want my baby and I'm worried that literally weeks of "false labour" is stressing her out. It's certainly stressing me out!
  • I started having contractions last Friday night. It kept me up most of the night Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. However they were not close enough together-usually between 12 and 15 minutes apart.

Then I had a doctors appointment on Monday which was when I was 41 weeks at 1:30 PM. She said that I was more dilated (about 3 1/2 cm) than my previous appointment. She massaged my cervix and I went home.

On the car ride home my contractions started to get stronger and closer together. I started to feel the contractions in my back. We came home and my husband did a few things around the house that we needed to do before we could go to the hospital. I timed my contractions and by the time they were five minutes apart we called labor and delivery.

They told me that I could come in but if I wasn't dilated enough I would be turned away. We decided that I needed to go in because I was in so much pain. On the car ride to the hospital I threw up from the pain. I got measured we were at the hospital and I was at 4 1/2 cm so I was admitted.

It was very exhausting to go through a few days of labor prior to active labor because of the lack of sleep. I'm just glad it's all over now. Even though I'm not getting as much sleep, at least I get to spend my time with my adorable newborn. In the end the pain was all worth it. Good luck to all you ladies who are still waiting!
