Today I mowed my lawn... is this horrible??

Today I push mowed my lawn (took about 35 minutes). My mom freaked out and said I shouldn't be doing that while pregnant? Should I be concerned? I mean is it that different than pushing a stroller or vacuum?

  • You can totally mow a lawn. I was running and working out through all my pregnancies. I am lifting all 3 of my kids now. The older generation has some funny old wives tales though. My MIL was really worried that I shouldn't put my arms over my head. lol.
  • I think it all depends on what you are used to doing pre pregnancy. If you consistently have cut your lawn or you are doing physical activity that compares, you should be fine. That being said, I would at least call your doctors office and ask about it or at your next appointment to be safe and sure.

  • I mowed our lawn on Saturday. Still good here. :-)

  • I was push-mowing our lawn in the middle of summer up until a few days before delivering our first. The old lady neighbor was always very concerned.

I think you're probably going to be okay.

Pregnancy isn't a disability. My 18 month old is 36 lbs and I carry him around most of the day.
  • Rock on! And I totally relate. I was doing garden work last weekend which involved shoveling a lot of soil and pushing a wheel barrow. My dad stopped by and was like "no shoveling for you." I was like no way! I've heard lifting anything up to like 45 or 50 lbs is fine and my shovels fill of dirt probably didn't come close! I think as long as you aren't really straining and are taking plenty of rest then go for it!
  • I mow our lawn so the kiddos can have more time with daddy on the weekend. I did it when I was pregnant with ds2 as well. I enjoy it and do it during nap time but once the sweltering heat and humidity set in, I may take a break. I'm not a masochist.
  • I would still be mowing ours if we had a better mower. It's a crappy old mower that's hard to push and because I'm petite I've always used my abdomen to help push the mower. I figure that's probably not a good idea so DH has taken over. If it weren't for that and we had a good, self-propelled mower and a flat yard I'd still be mowing it myself.

Thanks ladies! I feel much better!! My husband was delighted when he got home that it was done :) Now about that other lawn.... Probably need to give that some attention too lol! You guys make me laugh!!

Honestly I didn't think about the other meaning until other posters pointed it out. I am immensely grateful that you were referring to a yard because had it been the other lawn the title suggests there could have been a picture.
Hey guys, do you think the lightening bolt was to much??
  • My last Dr appointment I was asking my Dr about all the things people were telling me not to eat and not to do bla bla bla and he looked at me and said and I quote word for word " people are F#%*ing stupid you are pregnant not dying do what you have always done, eat what you would normally eat and tell people to mind their own dam business" lol he's kinda old school and very blunt

I'm sad this post is about mowing an actual lawn and not mowing the lawn by your baby door.

I bet lawn mowing is a pretty good low impact workout.

Hahahahaha TOTALLY the first thing that popped into my mind!
  • I am planning on mowing tomorrow and could really careless that I am pregnant. I am planning on a few 5ks and a 10k while pregnant those are more of a workout than mowing.
  • I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't overdue anything that could cause cramping or back issues.
My DH and I are expecting our first child! A boy.. we're thrilled :)http://www.thebump.com/profiles/kestes946/settings/avatar/index# BabyFruit Ticker BabyName Ticker Anniversary Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

I'd mow our lawn if I wasn't very allergic to grass. My sister mowed her lawn and her in-laws 2x a week right up to the day she had her baby with both her pregnancies. I wonder if all that exertion helped her labor, her's were under 3 hours.
  • I totally thought this post was about the baby door lawn.. Sorely disappointed.

  • My energy has come back in this last week or two, and I totally would have mowed the lawn except my husband doesn't let me. Apparently my lines aren't straight enough. Lol.
  • If this were true, all the single pregnant women, or pregnant women with significant others that travel/in the military would have extremely unkemp lawns. Just when you think you've heard it all.
