Did you register at more than one place?

DH is adament that we register at more than once place. He said we should register at a strictly baby store and then a more common store like Target. However, he can't really articulate a reason why. Then I consulted other mommies who also said the same thing, but didn't have much of a reason. As of now, we're only registered at Buy Buy Baby, but other people that I know that have children or are currently pregnant have registered at two. If you chose to register at two places or just one, what was your reasoning behind it?

Re: Did you register at more than one place?

  • Buy buy baby and target. Most of our items are on our buy buy baby registry but I have family and friends who live all over. Target is everywhere, buy buy baby is 45 mins away even for me. I don't like Targets wedding or baby registry though - A lot of items seem to be seasonal, online only or in store only. Buy buy baby is more user/buyer friendly to me.

  • I registered at 2 places originally 3 but took one away cause that was to much but I choose Walmart and target people I know prefer one over the other and each both have the same or similar products but it all depends on the other persons price range and what they're going towards spending , if you was a little more pricey go to target if you're on a budget then obviously Walmart, and each registry had similar items that are the same since I know some people wouldn't go to both or probably even bother to go look up one store vs. the one they shop at .
  • I'm in Canada and I registered at a baby store and an online cloth diapering website. I wasn't going to do the online diaper registry, but I figured why not? Although, I don't expect that many people will be excited about buying diapers so we probably won't have anything purchased off of it.
  • I registered at Target and Babies r Us. I was advised by a few new mommies NOT to register at Buy Buy Baby because they aren't as common as the other stores and because a lot of people tend to shop last minute, they are less likely to buy off your registry there because it'd be too late to order online, or travel to a Buy Buy Baby if needed.
  • I only did because of the coupons you get before the baby comes on items on your registry. Buy Buy Baby has the stroller I want and a few other things BRU doesn't have. This is my second baby so the coupons are literally the only reason I am registered
  • I registered at Babies r Us and Amazon. Amazon had certain things the baby stores didn't and a lot of my friends like to shop online and have prime where they get free Amazon shipping. I actually also did a private registry at a third place to get the discounts on my furniture.
  • So here is where I am confused: If you have more than one registry, do you split the items between the two or make two registries with similar items? My concern in doing two registries with similar items is that someone will buy a baby tub or something from Target and someone else will buy the one from Buy Buy Baby, not knowing one had already been purchased.
  • We did similar items at two stores. Most people already go into a target type store so I thought it would be more convenient for them. I did get some duplicates, but I just took them back and exchanged them for other things. This helped buy some of the bigger items too. The credit for the stuff I was returning helped purchase a few bigger items that we still needed. I also agree with PP about the coupons you get and the discounts on the stuff left on your registry after the baby is born. Definitely worth it!

  • I did different stuff on each registry. Certain items from the baby stores were online only so I put those on Amazon and kept in store items at the baby store. Also some items were only available at one.
  • We registered and Babies R Us and Target. Target because it's local to us and most of our friends and it's a little less expensive than Babies R Us. We registered at Babies R Us because they had a much wider selection of items in store than Target.
  • Both of mine are similar but their are things at Walmart you can't get at target and vise versa . But whatever I don't get I will be purchasing on my own .

We registered at Amazon and Target. The Target one is for people who want to shop in store and the Amazon is great for people who shop online or have Prime. We have different items on each so hopefully we won't have a lot of duplicates. IMO Amazon has the best prices and we have Prime so it will make buying items off it after baby way easier.
  • We did target and buy buy baby. Target has better shipping policies and is more convinent. We also did pottery barn kids, which suprisingly was the first one people bought from.

We will be registering at amazon and at babies r us. Because some people will find it easier to shop online and some people will want to go to the store. We are putting completely separate items on each registry as to not get duplicates

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • We registered at Babies r us and target - babies r us has more of the larger items and target was for smaller items like diapers wipes bottles onesies... Target is for the people who go to your shower and get your gift last minute. Baby stores are not always close by for people.
  • We registers at Target and Babies R Us. Most of our items are at Babies R Us but we have about 30-40 items at target. We like the endless earnings program, at Babies R Us and they have a wider variety for most items.. We did different items on each and when both stores had the same thing we registered at the cheaper store (so target lol) Also, we registered for a closet organizer and a couple of packs of diapers and such at Target because there is the 15% completion coupon. Might as well save where you can.
  • So we did the babies r us and amazon. We have a lot of family that live far away and amazon is better for them ( and us for competition) babies r us because we don't have a buy buy baby in this state and most
Who are last minute for us will would be able to get one if need be. To be honest I fully expect most of my friends and family to buy what they want reguardless of the registry. We shall see.
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • I registered at Target and Nordstrom. Buy buy baby is great but there are only two in my city. Target is everywhere and Nordstrom
Has the items I love. I put them all on myregistry.com and it's been going very well!
  • I am registered at 4 places....Buy Buy baby, babies r us, target, and baby list. And I have different stuff at each.
  • We registered at Target and Babies R Us. DH and I have family members in different states, so it would make it easier for anyone who wants to buy a gift. We have different items on each - bigger ticket items at BRU and smaller items at Target. With the two registries we were able to have a wider price range available.
  • I did Target and Babies r Us. After the shower I am moving all items that are cheaper at Target to my Target registry bc they also give a better completion discount, 15%. Plus Target carries non-baby things you may need like decor, organization items, etc.
  • The closest Target to me is two hours away, but there's a few Walmarts here so I registered there. I live in the middle of no where so stores like Buy Buy Baby and Babies r Us are no where to be found. I registered for the main baby items like a changing table, bottles, wipes, medical kit, just a few clothes (I know people are gonna buy them no matter what), stroller, etc. on Walmarts site. I registered on Amazon for misc type items, like some clothes I just really liked (but in bigger sizes like 12 months), and some nursery decor. Also I couldn't find any bedding I liked anywhere except for on Amazon.
  • I chose only Amazon to keep it simple. Because I wanted to give people the freedom to purchase things wherever they could afford it and wherever they knew they could find it. (So I don't have to worry about things being out of stock) With Amazon they don't have to order online AND I can specify if the brand/style matters to me or not. :)
  • Oh also, nice thing about the Amazon registry is that people can check off an item from the registry as purchased without actually purchasing from Amazon!
  • Cool to learn about amazon! The host of my shower already printed our invites with Buy Buy Baby and Target, otherwise I would totally switch. That sounds like a great system!
  • Target and BRU. BRU has the bigger items we want like strollers, car seats and high chairs. Also registered for smaller stuff at both places. Target is more convienent and cheaper for most stuff, plus you get the completion discounts for both. I'm sure we will get tons of duplicates ( plus we have been yard sale crazy shopping) so returning that stuff will help us buy the diapers and breastfeeding stuff that probably won't get purchased from the registries.
  • I registered at toys r us and target. We don't have a lot of selection where I live. Plus target gives you half off on the things you didn't get so does toys r us! It's good to give people options.
  • We are registered at Target (really close to us) for most essentials & Amazon for some bigger items. My family is in PA and we are in SC so giving them the option to buy online and ship directly to us is nice!

I did not read through all of the posts, so if someone already said this, sorry, I am feeling extra lazy this morning. I only registered at one place; however I can see why people would register at two places if they have family from all over. If I was going to register at a 2nd place I think it would have been Amazon because then people can get their items shipped (and if they have Prime, for free!), which is very convenient for anyone traveling. Also, don't quote me on this (and again, too lazy this AM to look, sorry) but I THINK that Amazon allows you to go on and click if you already bought a particular item at another store to help prevent duplicates. Now don't get me wrong, this would be a pain in the ass, but if you really wanted to you could just watch your other registry and as people buy items you have on both, go on to Amazon and remove them (or vice versa). Sounds like a lot of work to me, but it's an option. Otherwise, I think one place is plenty as long as everyone being invited has access to that store easily.
  • I registered at Babies R Us & and Target. I only started one at target because they had the high chair we wanted, but we've actually changed to a different high chair at Babies R Us. I've kept the one at Target just in case, but it only has small stuff like sheets & bottles. I think it's okay to have two for convenience for others, but with online shopping I don't know that it's really a neccessity. If it's too much stress I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Thank you all SO much! This was super helpful :)
  • We did babies r us and Amazon. Amazon has better prices and different items not available at the baby stores, and is great for people with prime or who don't love close to a baby store. People have been split about 50/50 with where they've purchased from.
  • Oh and I have overlap with some items on both, but I check them a few times a week and delete the item off the other registry if someone purchased from the other. Unless it's something we can use two of.

We did target and buy buy baby. Since my family is predominately from VA, and there is no buy buy baby near them, my mom urged me to register at target as well. Also, my husband and I have a target less than two miles from our home that we will predominantly shop at, so returns, exchanges, etc, will be easy! Buy buy baby is amazing, but they aren't as common EVERYWHERE, that's why we did both! We did some items at each (no duplicates).

I'm surprised that no one had mentioned one of the best benefits of Amazon - the universal registry button! You can add stuff to an Amazon registry from any website. Ours has stuff from Amazon (of course) but also from pottery barn kids, land of nod, Nordstrom, and even etsy. So we just have one registry, but it has stuff from 5 or 6 different stores. If you add a few things from traditional stores, your guests have the option of buying in person if they are shopping late or just prefer real stores. Best of both worlds!!
  • We registered at Target and BRU. Our shower is this weekend and I've noticed that all my out of state relatives have been buying off the BRU registry and having the items shipped right to our house. The Target registry seems less popular but I think that (because it's right here in town) last minute gift buyers are going to head there.

We picked both because Target has the more practical everyday items at a more reasonable price, while BRU has a larger variety of the cute stuff.

@JNOVA2015 we wanted to do that, we are super obsessed with Amazon! But as most of our relatives are old, they unfortunately aren't hip to the whole Amazon thing, or ordering online for that matter. Hahah, I wish!
  • @kedbach we definitely thought about that too. We only have 2 people who might buy something who aren't tech savvy (my grandma and DH's grandma), and neither will be able to come to the shower anyway because they aren't local. If either wants to buy a gift, they can either go off registry or someone in the family can help them. We thought it was a limited enough problem that we were fine just going with Amazon, but I agree it's not a great choice if you have a lot of guests or family who aren't Internet savvy!
  • I love this! I registered at BRU but it's a PAIN to navigate so I also registered on Myregistry.com which was AWESOME! There's etsy stuff on there, target, whatever. Awesome.
  • We are registered at Target, Babies R Us, and Amazon.
I imported all my registries onto my Babylist App. It will take all your items from all your registries, and put them all on one list. And it shows what store or website each item is at so anyone wanting to get that item can see and chose. You can even put that it is at two different stores for two different prices, so they can see and decide which store would be better to shop from for them. I love it. You can add an item from any website too. I love to comparison shop, so I go into the app, click add item, and then go to google, type in the name of the product I want to compare, and hit Shop On Google. It will show you what store offers the lowest price. I click on that store, and then hit the add button. Bam! Item is on registry! And you can categorize your items on your list (bath time, nursery decor, diapering, etc.)
