Hey y'all, I've been having horrible morning sickness that is lasting all day. I've tried emetrol and Dramamine but got no relief. Spoke with my doctor and he gave me a script for zofran. I've taken it twice and am feeling 100% better, but with all the hype recently about zofran and birth defects I'm nervous. My doctor says its safe anyone else taking zofran as well?
Re: Nausea and zofran
My husband and I had a huge debate about this after he heard some radio commercial from law offices looking to file a class action suit.
I not only spoke with my doctor but a professor of obstetrics at Stanford. The "studies" you are finding while googling are independent and funded by lawyers. If you look at the hard facts, there is no evidence that Zofran in any way increases the chance for birth defects any more. It is approved by the FDA for pregnant women to take, and the only thing the FDA is looking into is a condition (not related to pregnancy) that stems from 32mg doses.
With that being said it's always a scary thing to take medications during pregnancy so I follow this simple rule: small doses only when absolutely needed.
I found that taking 1/2 a dose rather than a full 4mg sometimes works just as well.
Do your research and if you feel uncomfortable with it, talk to your doctor to see what other alternatives there are.
Praying your MS eases up soon :-)
