I'm considered high risk because my first pregnancy ended in severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome....which landed me in an emergency c-section. They've done early c-sections on my subsequent two to try and avoid HELLP. Prayers are with the rest of you ladies! Hope everything runs smoothly!

It's so inspiring to see the optimism on this post. I tried looking at the high risk board but since I don't fit into any of the categories, I just thought I would leave it alone for now. I'm high-risk for a multitude of reasons, least of all is my AMA and my previous history of infertility, including IVF and m/c.

I have a neoro-cardiological disorder called POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.) this causes me to have episodes of fainting and also tachycardia. I have been on long-term IV fluids through port-a-cath that is implanted in my chest. I am not on the fluids now, but should my pressure bottom out I will need to go back on IV fluids because I also have low blood volume (hypovolemia.)

I have a very long history of IBD and have had my intestines rupture which led to the septic shock and multiple organ failure. Thankfully I recovered from that but I have had to have three additional exploratory laparotomy's with resections (totaling 4) so because of this so I have a weakened area in my intestines where they have been sewn back together time and again. I also have had the incisions rupture with cellulitis, so I have a history of wound issues.

I have a history of over 60 small bowel obstruction's, 40 of them requiring nasogastric tubes. Pregnancy increases your chances small bowel obstruction.

I have an intolerance to narcotics and have had four epidurals in the past for my surgeries. Only one of them took on half of my body, so we need to be very careful about how delivery will happen.

And finally, I have to be on medications for my various issues so in order to take those medications, I need to be followed by an MFM.

All of this taken into consideration, I have been told time and again that there is no reason that I shouldn't be able to safely carry healthy baby. I feel very confident in my team that was carefully put together over the past year and a half.

Wishing you all the best of luck throughout our pregnancies. It's nice to have a little group to support one another :x

Im high risk due to my age. 42. Never imagined being pregnant at this age. I have 10 yr old twins concieved via ivf. Had an ectopic in 2011 which ruptured etc. Then had a miscarriage in 2013. Im extremely pessimistic about this pregnancy being successful. Im feeling extremely nervous and anxious about becoming a mommy at this age.

@ssinnwell that may be normal protocol for non high risk patients, but even most of them are getting at least one 1st trimester u/s these days it seems.  So when you see your DR at 7 weeks, mention it for sure.  The office may just be stating standard procedure, and your dr will make other arrangements since you're high risk.  I always have to go straight to my DR to get an early u/s instead of just calling the appt line and saying, hey I'm preggo, let's get me set up.  His nurse will then set up the appts that the appt line doesn't have the ability to do, since it beaks procedure.

Thanks! I see the prenatal nurse tomorrow so I will for sure bring it up!

Hope everyone is doing well!  I know we all will have ups and downs... one day feel optimistic, and the next totally having a freak out and thinking the worst possible thoughts.  Just thought it was about time for a check in for those that posted early, and get something going to keep us all talking.

    How far along are you???
What's the latest news from your drs???
One good thing that's happened recently...
Anything you need to chat about/get off your shoulders???

    ____________________________________________________

    I'm 9w5d today :)  Double digits this week :):):)

Had my prenatal checkup {pap smear, physical, blood work, etc}.  All that came back normal {well haven't heard about pap smear but I am thinking normal since they haven't called and I normally just get a post card if normal}.  We scheduled my next non-high-risk dr's appt for 12 weeks.  No u/s but a heartbeat check.  Scheduled my level 2 u/s and amnio for June 18th, and will start my shots that week as well.

I heard the heartbeat on my home doppler at 8w4d!!!! I've listened to it a few times off and on since then.  It's such a beautiful sound, and I breathe a huge sigh of relief every time I hear it.

Two things... 1 I know I wanted to be treated as "normal" as possible up to 16 weeks, but not having a 2nd u/s until 16 weeks is starting to FREAK ME THE EFF OUT!!!! Especially after my last pregnancy.  Everything was moving along fine, had a couple very early u/s, due to some spotting, and then nothing for 4 or 5 weeks.... went in for the heartbeat check up at 12, 12.5 weeks, can't remember how many days I was... just 48 hours after announcing because we'd never had SUCH a late 1st trimester loss, & I'd heard the heartbeat on the home doppler the day before.... and NO heartbeat.  Zero warning, no recent spotting to cause alarm, nothing, nadda, so I was totally gobsmacked, and DH was deployed at the time so I was totally alone.  Sooo do I call my dr and beg for another u/s around 11 weeks to ease my fears? Or just use my home doppler like every day, since just 48 hours without last time caused me to miss that it had stopped before my dr's appt.

2 well crap, I spent so long typing #1 that I forgot #2, guess it wasn't that important.  If I remember what I wanted to say, I'll come back.  Otherwise, it obviously isn't a big deal LOL  I blame pregnancy brain hahahaha

@imfunsizeniki I think you should ask them for an us sooner yes! I'm sure they will do it since you have a history. It doesn't hurt to ask right?! How far along are you today? Maybe you should add that question to the check in questions (how far along..?)

Ahhh yes I will add that, I forget that mobile you can't see the tickers LOL

I'm 9w5d so not sure if there is a point in an u/s since I know we are checking the heartbeat at 12 weeks.  I mean another u/s won't really tell me anything other than what my home doppler does.  Gaaaaah it's just so frustrating when you can't be blissfully ignorant and just go with the flow.

How far along are you??? 9w2d

What's the latest news from your drs??? Nothing new really except that she (my OB) told me that I will have to have progesterone injections starting at 16 weeks - 37 weeks. Also, I messaged her about my burn I had over the weekend from kitchen oil. I'm concerned it might get infected, I still haven't heard back from her.

One good thing that's happened recently...
Anything you need to chat about/get off your shoulders??? I want to seriously hurt my husband sometimes! He will not change the cat litter when he's here. He doesn't believe me when I tell him it can cause serious birth defects. Wtf!!!!!!!!

@marchmellow2 I saw your post about the burn, how is it looking/feeling today???  Hopefully they call you soon! I hate when dr's have after hours and don't even bother with a return to say, you're fine see you monday or something LOL

A friend accidentally poured hot oil out of a deep fryer on her hand and had to be sent 2.5 hours away to the nearest burn center.  It was a 3rd degree burn, covering her entire palm.

I'm honestly not sure if my Dr will consider me high risk this time or not. With my DS deliver I lost a lot of blood and had to have a transfusion.  I won't see my Dr till Friday so I guess I will see what she says then.  Really my pregnancy was fine, it was just the delivery that did not go well.

That's pretty much what it was! It was deep fry hot. It was bacon grease that was on high for more than 10 minutes already to make the whole pack of bacon. And literally the whole pan fell on my belly! As far as healing goes I'm not sure... It hurts and It's starting to have an odor so I'm getting a bit worried. I might just go to the urgent care.

I saw my ob for the first time on Friday. They have me at the lower end of high risk for right now. With my son, everything was normal until 28 weeks, when it seemed his growth was delayed. I was seen by MFM and diagnosed with IUGR. From that point on, I was seen by MFM and my ob every two weeks. At 32 weeks, they discovered a cyst on the umbilical cord with no signs of other complications. At my 34 week appointment, MFM found that he had stopped growing and discovered 2 more cysts. I had an amnio and was sent to l&d to await the results of his lung development. At l&d, they realized I had pre-e. I delivered my son at 35 weeks and they discovered a placental abruption that had been missed on the ultrasound. Thankfully my son was fairly healthy and only spent 12 days in the NICU, but it was stressful.

This is my second pregnancy and my ob wants to consider progesterone injections starting at 18 weeks and consultations from MFM at that time. It worries me that things will start out normal again and end up high risk.

It looks similar to yesterday. As soon as I put my one year old down for his nap in about an hour I'm going to take the Tefla off and let air get to it for about an hour. I'll take a picture then too. I think it looks ok. There is no drainage and I don't feel like it's infected.

So I am getting an ultrasound tomorrow morning. They drew no joke 6 vials of blood, made me get an EKG and I have to collect my urine all day Sunday (they wanted sooner but I refuse to do that at work lol)... So I guess you were right the scheduler just doesn't change anything for high risk...

Let's see. I'm 7w2d. I just had an ultrasound yesterday and....
    Graduated from the RE!!! Yaaaaay!
I'm currently just seeing my regular OB, but he is going to consult with the MFM (they're in the same office). I'm planning on having a cerclage, since I spontaneously went into labor with zero warning last time. Literally, cervix was fine at my morning appt, I had the twins by 2am the next morning.
I don't know his feelings about the cerclage, but it's happening. Even if I have to call my RE in- he's the department head. It's happening.
In other good news, I'm switching from daily progesterone in oil injections to twice daily crinone. I'm so excited! And so is my backside!!

Joining this group after today's findings that I have a partially septated uterus (heart shaped, wish that was as cute as it sounds lol) and because my uterine lining is thin (only 5mm, should be at least 9mm). These things were missed on my previous pregnancy's scans and are most likely the cause of my first loss. Baby itself looked good today at 7 weeks 1 day, 127bpm but am not out of the woods yet :-/ Keeping all of you ladies in my prayers! I can't even imagine what some of you are going through, you're an amazingly strong group!

Hey girls! It's been awhile. Things are good. Had second u/s yesterday at 8w5d. Baby looks great and hb was at 170! We saw it and heard it. Such a great sound. Still doing my shots two times a day for my clotting disorders, but honestly, I feel pretty great! Hope everyone else is hangin in there!

I had a dream last night that I had a miscarriage and it's really starting to freak me out...... If my anxiety is still high when my Dr's office opens I'm calling.

ETA found heartbeat on doppler. For about 30 seconds and then the little bugger moved on me and couldn't find it again. But at least I heard it. Whew... Feeling better. Will be checking every day for a little while though.

New to this board, but so happy to find you ladies! I am 33, have PCOS, kidney issues causing high BP, & hypothyroidism. Tried for 6 years before having baby #1 with the help of Femara in 2013. Not a smooth pregnancy. Had a subchorionic hematoma (blood clot between uterine wall & placenta) that lasted from 6 weeks to almost 15. Fought my BP most of the pregnancy, then had an emergency c-section at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. He spent a week in the NICU, but is now a happy, healthy 2 year old.

Just found out we're 8 weeks, 1 day along, no fertility drugs this time (holy cow...didn't EVER think that would happen!). Saw my OB yesterday & due to high BP and already spilling a lot of protein he is making the referral to an MFM. I'm really scared...I trust my OB with my life, so if this is what we need to do, then we do it...but i was hoping for a smoother ride this time. He thinks I may have a chronic underlying kidney issue causing the protein/BP. Keeping my fingers crossed that the answers are positive.

Good luck & hugs to all of you ladies!
Dx with PCOS in 2004; TTC #1 since 2006. 6 failed rounds of Clomid, 1 failed round of injectibles, innumerable failed cycles of herbs, accupuncture, etc. FINALLY got BFP on 10/4/2012 after 2 rounds of Femara Can't wait to be a mommy! Pregnancy Ticker

    Just giving an update.

I am 9w6d today, but my ultrasound measured the baby at 10w1d. They aren't changing it because she said that it will vary from time to time. I was excited because the baby was measuring slightly bigger.

I didn't get to hear a heartbeat at this appointment, but we did get to see the baby and she said everything looked great. I asked her what the heart rate was and she said it looked around 140, but she didn't measure it. She did say that was right in the middle so good, but I wish she would have actually measured it. Freaks me out a little because I know around 10 weeks it averages 170. I am trying to stay focused on the fact that she said it was good and not google search anything!

A good thing that has happened to me is this is the farthest I have ever made it and we have seen the heartbeat 3 times now! I also get appointments every 2 weeks, so this will help with my stress level. I am excited to hear the heartbeat at the next appointment on the 18th.

Anything you need to chat about/get off your shoulders???

I am consider high risk for several reasons. My first pregnancy was going well saw the baby at the 13 week appointment, everything looked great. Went for the 17 weeks appointment and no heartbeat. They said by measurements that the baby stopped developing at 13.5 weeks. Did lots of blood woodland discovered that I have MTHFR, a blood clotting disorder as well as my body does not absorb folic acid like it is supposed to. Also discovered I have PCOS. So after all that I was on clomid for 2 months and was pregnant with my son. Delivered at 38 weeks healthy!! Then we decided to try again summer of 2013 spent 6 months of clomid with no success. We decided to wait a little longer. In October of last year spent 4 months on clomid with no success and was referred to the infertility specialist and perinatal specialist. My husband had blood work done andyhey discovered he is a carrier for a chromosome genetic disorder. So they wanted to do IVF. We oppted out of that due to the cost and now are 9 weeks pregnant. At 12 weeks I will have that CVS testing to test the babies chromosomes to ensure healthy baby. I had spitting during weeks 6 & 7. I am having a hard time attaching because of the fear that will not be able to meet this one too. I have faith that everything will be fine. Just have to wait and see. Good luck to everyone!

Do multiples normally result in being high risk? Just curious there is a chance of twins for me this time.

Hi just joined. After reading some of yalls storied, I don't "feel" high risk but Dr says I am.

My first pregnancy I was induced at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure that wouldn't drop, even after bedreast.

My second baby I developed gestational diabetes. Around 32 weeks a ultrasound discovered baby wasn't growing. After 2x week umtasound and non stress test, I was induced at 37 weeks 3 days. During delivery my placenta ruptured.

I'm currently 7 weeks with my 3rd baby. Talking to a midwife at a new practice this week to discuss if I'm truelly high risk and if she will take me on as a patient.

Yes. Anytime you have more than one cooking, your risks of everything increase. That doesn't mean there aren't a lot of happy outcomes and healthy twin (and even triplet) pregnancies.

I was referred by my gyno/ob to high risk clinic due to having a lot of health issues,  Clinic took me as PT but MD said she doesn't expect problems.  I'm not sure if this makes me high risk or not?

    ___________________________________________________________________________
I will be 11 weeks tomorrow!!!!!

Still waiting for my 12 week heartbeat check and my 16 week level II u/s & amnio

    I was finally able to get a recording of the beans heartbeat on the doppler to send to my bestie & SIL {who JUST found out she's pregnant for the very first time.... they have been TTC since 2002!!!!! {yes that's oh two not twelve} Seriously I was a blubbering mess when she told me, tearing up again now just thinking about it.  She is due a little over a month after me.}

I'm coming up on the timeframe we lost our last pregnancy.  It was either late week 11 or early week 12, hard to determine the exact time, since the baby was measuring a little ahead.  So I'm starting to freak out a little here and there... like yesterday when it took 3 tries to find the heartbeat on the doppler.  I literally couldn't get out of bed after the 2nd try.  Ugh, I just want to go back to ignorant bliss right now!!! I'm also unsure of when we are going to make it "facebook official."  I've never had a 2nd trimester loss.... but I have had 1 very late 1st trimester loss {all of my others have been early}.  So I kind of want to tell when we hit 2nd trimester, but then I worry, and maybe I should wait another week or two.  But I don't want the announcement to be right on top of the gender reveal {I have a pretty cool one planned out}.

I'm also MTHFR homozygous!! I'm 9w 6d pregnant with my second child and on daily baby aspirin, high dose folic acid and clexane injections. I'm so nervous something will go wrong. I had an us at 7w and saw a heartbeat which was a milestone in itself but not out of the woods yet! 3 weeks til my next one. I've got a 2 yr old boy who I had absolutely no probs with apart from low platelets and high blood pressure towards the end of the pregnancy with him but his perfectly fine. Had two miscarriages following him and then testing which showed up the MTHFR. Good luck mumma, good to chat to someone in the same boat xo

DH and I were having difficulty conceiving and went through all the different fertility tests. All looked normal until I got the HPG done...turns out I have a unicornuate uterus! On March 26th (also the day I got my period) I had a laparoscopy done and it was discovered that I have both ovaries but only one functioning half of a uterus and one Fallopian tube that they unblocked. Well, I guess that's all we needed because we're pregnant! But for as ecstatic as I am, I'm equally nervous because I was told I'll have to be monitored carefully due to the probability of having a pre-term baby and possibly needing to be put on bed rest. If anyone has been in a similar situation and can give me any words of advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello ladies I am new to the post. I am 29 and this is my second pregnancy. I am 10 weeks 3 days and I was placed in high risk because of my BP and protein in my urine. I have uterine fibroids and had pre-eclampsia with my previous pregnancy and an emergency c-section. My son was fine but I was in MICU for a week. So far everything with my baby is good and I am very thankful.

I love that there is a high risk thread on here! I am considered high risk due to my CML (chronic myeloid leukemia). I have had to stop taking my daily targeted chemo pill that I really on, and it's terrifying. I am very nervous about my cancer coming back (which they expect will) and having to deal with the "baby-safe", and highly unpleasant, chemo I would be facing should that occur at a high rate. I will visit my oncologist monthly to keep an eye on my levels. To keep my sanity, my goal is to try and only deal with 'what is' and not 'what could be'. There was a long period of time where I didn't think this would be possible so I want to be as thankful as possible for every step of this adventure (good and bad). I will be keeping you all in my thoughts! Be brave ladies :)
