Is anyone buying a new camera?

Wondering if anyone else has a new camera on their list of things to buy? I feel like this would be as good a time as ever to get a nice camera, aside from our iPhones and digital camera that we got for our honeymoon. Trying to decide between a DSLR or this new fangled mirror-free one from Sony.

DH is an amateur photographer and has a nice DSLR. I wouldn't go for anything too fancy unless you're willing to put the time and effort into learning how to use it to actually take nice pictures. Otherwise, you're better off with a point and shoot.

It's on my "I'd love one but doubt I'll get one" list.

We have a point-and-shoot and a DSLR. The DSLR is from 2006 and the point-and-shoot from maybe 2008. I think I'd like a point-and-shoot with more capabilities. Maybe more than the $100 we spent on the one we have. While I love my SLR, it's hard when babies are squirmy to get the right light/best shot before its blurred. LOL

We use our iphone 6 and have a high end Canon camera. Both work just fine.

We just bought a GoPro 4 a couple months ago and plan on taking some pretty awesome pictures with it (including during birth)

I can't wait for all the great pictures I will take of my kids at the park and when we just go on our adventures. I'm so obsessed with our gopro because the pictures are seriously the best pictures I've ever seen! and we take underwater pictures.

I need more walls in my house for all the future framed amazing photos I will be putting up.

I bought the Sony a7S which is part of the mirrorless family from sony. It is amazing. It doesn't look like it would be super powerful from the outside, (it has a real vintage feel), but its low light capabilities are unparalleled. It also takes pretty decent video with no lighting design which I assume you wouldn't be using most of the time when taking family pictures/video. In the price point no DSLR can really touch it.

@ourlittledarling I was looking at the Sony A6000. The slimmer design of the mirrorless is nice bc I could easily put it in a diaper bag or whatever.

I have never used the A6000 but I know it was recently on sale on the Sony website so hopefully you'll be able to get it at the sale price

I have a DSLR and I wish I had gotten it sooner when my son was a baby. It takes amazing pictures and if you take the time to learn how to use it you will never use your old camera again. When I had my son all of my pictures (aside of professional newborn photos) were taken with iPhone and I wish I had taken them at the very least with a regular digital camera because you can't do anything with them with such a low quality.

@pinktorridora I forgot to mention, the body is super slim but I had to buy a relatively good sized case to accommodate my various lenses with the camera. I use prime lenses so the lens size you choose might be something to consider if you are hoping from a small overall portability size.

I bought a new camera. I got the Nikon D3300. It has some really cool features, like wifi, so you can send pics to your cell phone. I haven't really played around with it much so I can't recommend it just yet.
