OB vs midwife

hello! I'm new here and very excited! After a very long road, I am finally 5 weeks pregnant:):) now comes a whole new list of scary things! I'm trying to decide to have a OB or a midwife. This is my first pregnancy and don't know too much about the pros and cons. Any suggestions?

Re: OB vs midwife

  • I have had two c-sections and hope to deliver naturally this time, but am going with an OB simply because of the risk. I am also planning to have a doula there as well. I also totally love my OB, so that helps!

  • My first pregnancy too! Congrats! I have a midwife. All of my friends and family have had a midwife and had great experiences so that's why I chose one. Depending on where you live they can be very tricky to get in with. I called when I was almost 4 weeks and they told me they already had a ton of moms in dec making it tricky if I deliver early.

Thanks ladies! There is just so much to think about:) I'm leaning towards an OB because of risks. I just have this feeling like I don't know if I'm making the right decision
  • I had a midwife my last time and I will have the same one again this time.  I think it is all a personal preference.  Also if you do with a midwife and something happens where you need a doctor at most hospitals there is always a OB doctor on staff.

At the doc office I go to, they have both doctors and midwives on staff. The midwife works closely with the doc and a doc will always be there just in case.
