Baby Boy Nursery Theme Ideas

Hi everyone! Hubby and I found out that we are having a baby boy, and I'm struggling to come up with a theme for the nursery that doesn't look cheesy and isn't overdone. Any suggestions or ideas for a baby boy nursery? Interested to hear what others have done in the past or are planning to do this time around. Thanks in advance!

    Ideas:
    Jungle or forest.
    Space themed
    Cars or planes
    Sports themed
    Superheroes

I was planning on (if this baby is a boy) doing a forest theme with deer and arrows or a vintage sports theme however my mom bought a jungle themed bedding with giraffes, monkeys, and elephant from her neighbor for $15 (maybe used twice) and gave it too me. Not sure I want to use it but it was free so I'm torn on what to do right now.

    Good luck!

I did nautical with my first. My second I did lime green and grey and added some Vintage rock pictures

  • We are doing a vintage science theme for our baby girl, but it would work great for a baby boy.  Celestial/nature themed fabrics, vintage science prints for the walls, dinosaur bone puzzles for decoration, solar system mobile, and old science-themed books to decorate wall shelves.

  • We are doing modern nautical (we are a boating family anyway) and the colors are navy, gray and orange. I think it will look really cute and the pop of orange will stop it from looking too traditional. We got a little whale bedding set and plan to make a wall hook out of an oar, and then use some cute etsy prints on the walls. I'm hoping to get a boat shaped shelf and if I can find one at a reasonable price, a treasure chest for a toy box. (They are all very expensive or very cheap plastic. I can't seem to find a middle ground!)
  • we're doing a jungle theme. walls will stay white, using this bedding set as inspiration: https://www.target.com/p/circo-snooz-n-safari-4pc-crib-bedding-set/-/A-15125675
  • I like old vintage world maps, air planes and hot air bolloons. Or even old retro toys. I'm into vintage I guess.

  • My son's nursery was forest/woodland animal themed when he was first born. I ended up redcorating with an outer space/robot theme. That one seems to be less common, as I had trouble finding much in the way of inspiration pics on Pinterest and finding sheets and stuff to match my theme.

By far my favorite boy nursery that I ever saw though, was this little boy I babysat. His parents were huge phillies fans and his room was a sports/baseball theme. But it was the most tastefully decorated nursery I'd ever seen, straight out of the pages of Pottery Barn Kids catalogue or Pinterest.

  • I love nautical, but it doesn't go with our nursery room, which has golden yellow walls and I don't want to paint.  I'm thinking we will be doing jungle or monkey themed.  Possibly the grey/white/yellow or something with more color.
  • I'm doing a kind of boho Indian/ tribal theme. Little teppees, feathers and arrows. Theres super cute stuff on Etsy.

I love the rustic/modern look for boys with a tribal splash. If I was finding out the sex of our little one we would use this as inspiration. I love the honeycomb shape shelves and dream catcher mobile

We are modeling our nursery off of this style:  https://projectnursery.com/projects/carters-peaceful-haven/

We are just changing it up a bit with no pics of us and not sure about the name on the wall yet :)

  • There are so many out there but it's hard to pick!! I hear ya!!! Try Pinterest!!
  • Do something special that comes from you and your husband.. like a special place or animal.. if we were having a boy.. we had decides to do a farm theme.. my husband is from Texas and our favorite vacation spot is his family's ranch out there. My sister had a boy and did a winnie the pooh theme because that was her husband's favorite toy as a baby. Another thought we had was a monkey theme because my husband used to call me monkey when we were dating. We even 3nded up naming our dog monkey.
  • I'm 80% sure I'm having a boy but boy or girl I love elephants!  They have grey/white elephant themed nursery sets that you can offset with ANY color.  Love it!  I also love nautical theme for little boys.

  • We found out last week we're having a boy, and we know we want to do Disney. I'm torn between Winnie the Pooh, The Lion King or 101 Dalmatians. We're in an apartment, so we'd have to paint the wall back to white when we leave (although that won't be for about 2 years), so we're not going to paint, not to mention, it's a one bedroom so he won't get to have a whole room to himself, but I'm still planning on making the most of the room I do have for him!
  • I plan on doing either a rustic safari or nautical themed nursery if we have a boy. I've found some furniture I like at Restoration Hardware.
  • Land of Nod has the cutest, not lame, solar system bedding! Seriously, so adorable and not cheesy.

Vintage cars! My hubby is a huge car guy and I found the most AMAZING bedding on Etsy!!!
Now we have to wait until next Thursday to get the anatomy scan done. But this is the plan if baby is a boy
  • We did a sea creature theme. I found super cute paintings at pottery barn.

  • @ELParker814 I was just thinking this about 20 mins ago. My hubby actually has a classic Chevy truck. I may try to find a photographer to take vintage pics of it and use those as our theme. I'm sure I could find some other Vintage Chevrolet paintings/decor to accent it.
  • Thanks for all of the recommendations! I appreciate the help. Hate being so indecisive. Lol
  • We're doing an Audobon / tropical theme. Vintage prints of birds, bold colors, some pieces from our honeymoon in Peru. It'll work for either gender. :)

I think I want to try to do flat faced dogs as a theme (Boston Terriers and French Bulldogs). I love those cute little pups and I think it could work well in Baby Boy's room if I could find some bedding I love. :)
So if anyone sees any bedding with bostons or frenchies, let me know? :)
