Diaper bag?

Anyone have any recommendations on a good (preferably affordable) diaper bag? Being a FTM I don't know if there is anything I should be looking for except a big bag to put a lot of stuff in :) thanks ladies!

Re: Diaper bag?

  • I spent a lot of money on my diaper bag for my first baby and ended up using my Walmart one way more. Honestly I just threw random stuff in there as we rushed out the door. As long as it holds bottles diapers wipes and a few small things it doesn't really make a big difference.

  • I love my skip hop duo. Used it for my last it was big but not huge
  • I have a Petunia Picklebottom that I love, but, to be honest, I only use it when we're dressed up for something. Otherwise, I just use an old NorthFace backpack. The backpack has more pockets and separation - it's easy to find eveything and everything has it's own spot.
  • I bought a $20 overnight bag from Walmart. It has a few pockets inside & it's spacious. I'm not crazy about character or themed diaper bags so this one is perfect. I had a quilted bag for DS but especially when he was newborn it just wasn't big enough.
  • Love my petunia pickle bottom bag! I got the one that's a purse or a backpack and it's wonderful and fashionable
  • I'm using a backpack that I haven't used since college. It's a really heavy duty laptop backpack and still in great shape so I think it will work out well.
  • A BACKPACK! Preferably one with a plastic liner that can be wiped out. I'm a FTM but I was a live-in nanny for newborn twins and I needed the full length of my arms at all times.
  • Bought myself a big designer purse with a durable, wipe-out-able liner. Had a diaper bag for baby #1 and got sick of lugging it and my purse around, so now I just toss diapers, wipes, a change of clothes and if need be, a bottle in a ziplock into my giant mom purse. I might as well look classy even if I don't feel classy :)
  • Backpacks are way easier then Over the shoulder. I got a nice leather coach diaper bag with my first and ended up
Using a free one strap backpack I got from a formula company lol. So my advice would be to get a diaper bag backpack.

  • I am also going the backpack route and also found some plastic zippered bags/ pouches to divide up items in the bag so others (my husband and anyone who might help with the baby) will easily be able to find things. I plan to separate and label items like diaper change things, change of clothes, nursing, toys, etc.
I found a good medium sized black North face backpack that both my hubby and I like, I have good experience with their quality in the past
  • I got the skip hop backpack. It seems really functional plus I like that it'll be easy for my DH to carry without looking silly.
  • You want something that has lots of pockets to keep things separated and so that everything has it's own place so you know if something is missing. That being said, I have an older Coach purse that I'm putting an organizer in. I used it for my son 6 years ago and it got a little beat up but it's still pretty and doesn't scream "I am a diaper bag!"
  • I was so picky about a diaper bag the absolute only one I liked was the "Eddie Bauer" from target. It's like gray and charcoal. Fits everything perfect and like that it's neutral .
  • I also went the backpack route. I wanted something hubby and I could both use, without losing too much of our "cool". I'm not a fan either of the over the shoulder theme or cartoonish diaper bags. We actually have 2 of the same backpacks (all black) by fisher price, found at BRU. $49.99. Has nice separation, and includes a baby changing pad. It has side pockets for wipes and bottles. Seems like it will do the job, and keep both hands free for LO.

I got the JJ Cole bag. It is a nice tote that also has straps to convert to backpack tucked in the back pocket. It also came with the stroller clips which would've been extra at some of the other convertible bags I was looking at.

We got the plain "Heather Gray" color so it doesn't look ridiculous when my husband uses it.

Haven't put it to use yet but very happy with our choice so far.

I'm a huge JuJuBe fan, so I got the JuJuBe BFF bag, can be carried as a backpack or messenger. It's washable and has lots of pockets. I'm also finding out I'm a bit of an over packer, so I bought the Be Prepared bag also for longer outdoor trips.
  • As far as look/style to each their own...as far as function I've found (this is #3) that you want a zipper close for the main pocket or once baby is older everything gets pulled out, at least one zipper pocket inside the large pocket for small/important items, and some sort of insulated pocket that closes...zipper or one of those pulley things...open pockets result in lost bottles/sippy cups.
