question about my ultrasound

I have gestational diabetes and had a biophysical ultrasound at 33 weeks. Today the doctor called and said that there is a three week discrepancy between the baby's abdominal circumference and the biperietal diameter( measurement from temple to temple). The biperiatal diameter measured 34 weeks with the abdomen at 31. The head circumference is in line with the abdomen. I am worried sick about all that could possibly be wrong and am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what the outcome was.

The bad part is that none of us are ultrasound techs (that I know of) or doctors. I don't have much advice for you.

  • I would ask your doctor what this could mean for LO - he or she is the one who can answer why this was significant enough to call and tell you. Hoping you get some answers soon!!
  • At my appointment this week my doc looked at her like usual on the old little ultrasound machine in a room (not the official fancy ultrasound machine). This week he measured her head (35 weeks, which is big) & her femur (33 weeks, on time for me). He didn't seem too concerned.
  • The doctor just called to tell you that but told you nothing else? :-?
