  • I exercised some restraint, but no joke I'm so sad for all the children in that situation. If something out of anyone's control like sex organs sends this hot mess of a woman on a downward spiral, then can you imagine if her girls are trans? Like what if both feel they are male at their core?

  • I know gender disappointment is "a thing" but I just can't imagine not loving my kid because he has a penis. She keeps saying she will love him etc, but the way she talks about it-- I feel like she will just tolerate his existence. How very sad for this little boy that his own mother is going down the rabbit hole on this shit.

  • So my DH had something like gender disappointment. He had it in his mind that #2 was a ABC, actually every guessed that. I thought so too. When they said XYZ, I was shocked! He felt that he lost 'that' child. Then he felt so guilty for not be excited for what we had. It took him a day or so to get over it.

He is so happy now to have the two kids we do have. He even said a few days ago how 'blessed by God we are and how lucky'.

    Men are weird.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • There was absolutely nothing I could say to or about that woman that wouldn't get me banned.

And aside from the sex disappointment douchebaggery, I just wanted to reach through my computer and smack the shit out of her because it seemed like she was mostly disappointed because she wouldn't get to put another kid in frilly pink dresses. It's hard enough being a woman without the added expectation of bullshit gender roles.
I almost told that... Woman... If she wanted another girl so bad just dress her son in all her old girl clothes. But then I thought she might ACTUALLY take me serious. Don't need any more harm coming to that LO.

This reminds me, when my DH & I were waiting for our anatomy scan review with my OB, there was a woman talking about her newborn DD. She previously had a boy & could only have 1 more child and apparently that was even a stretch. So she said, "if she had been born a boy, I'd probably -make him gay- so I could get my girl." WTF?!

  • When people think girls can't wear blue/can only wear pink.  8-|

I just finished knitting a really cute baby cardigan (not for any baby in particular, just practising knitting without a pattern and I'd rather mess up a baby-sized project than an adult-sized one), in white and blue. Then my cousin, who's expecting a baby girl any day now, goes all "If you ever knit a practise cardigan in pink, I'll have a test baby to try it out". I know she doesn't mean anything by it, but really. Is my cute blue cardy not good enough for your daughter!? Pfft. If we ever have a baby girl, she is going to wear the you-know-what out of that cardy and she is going to look fabulous. B-)

Gender stereotypes are ridiculous! I have already told my mom that if/when I have a daughter she is forbidden to buy her pink anything. Hate the color and I hate that it is forced on girls like they can't be feminine without wearing pink. The idea of gender specific colors infects everything! The funny thing is that back in like the 1800s or so the whole pink and blue thing was reversed. Med wore red because it was a color that represented power and strength. Boys were therefore dressed in the lighter pink tones. Blue was actually considered feminine. The tables turned when women started wearing red/pink to appear more masculine and thus gradually shifted the perception of the color to a feminine one. My children will be dressed in whatever colors I want to put them in regardless of what genitals they have.

Wow.  I just read through that October board and actually started tearing up.  It's so unfair that people out there (ahem, including me) want to conceive so badly and it's just not happening, and then there's people like that that don't appreciate it whatsoever.

Creepy internet hugs - felt the same way :(

  • I put DD in blue clothes all the time. In fact, we weren't expecting to want to have a second baby after DD since I was 35 when I had her so we bought a lot of pink or otherwise "girly" baby items. I told DH that If we end up with a boy this time, we're not going to buy a new car seat or anything just because the colors are feminine. He won't even know! I will buy new clothing, however.

My favorite color is blue, so, if we have a daughter she's totally allowed to wear blue.

The only thing I would recommend with this is to make sure your car seat isn't outdated. They change the safety regulations pretty frequently so depending on how old your dd is, you might need a new one. Most hospitals will check your car seat before they let you leave.
  • @tigerfish227 car seat's not expired yet. DD is only 17 mos. We'll of course double check once I get KU. ;)
