1st Trimester

Pregnant immediately after a miscarriage!

Here is a little about myself. I am married and have an amazing 2 year old, Ezra. We decided to ttc in Febuary and we did it on the first try! I unfortunately miscarried at around 5.5 weeks starting March 25th and it ended March 31st. I have since had negative pregnancy tests. Well today I decided to test and I got a big fat positive immediately. I then tested again a few hours later and big fat positive again. I haven't even had my period since my mc. I am excited, but trying not to get too excited because I am so terrified of having another mc. I am also unsure of how the docs/nurses will react to me getting pregnant so soon.  Anyone have advice? Will they want to see me sooner since I just had a mc? I was going to wait a few weeks to make an appointment, but am unsure.

Re: Pregnant immediately after a miscarriage!

  • Miscarriages happen to perfectly healthy women for a million reasons, so assuming you don't have a history of them (which it seems like you don't) I think they will treat it as typical, especially since you've had a healthy pregnancy to term already.

  • Previous miscarriages generally have no bearing on future pregnancies. I got my BFP for my two oldest almost like you did, one immediately after a miscarriage and the other immediately after a chemical pregnancy. The doctors will most likely treat it as a normal pregnancy. I'm sure they won't look at you funny about it.
  • I guess I am just REALLY freaking because I have 0 symptoms. *sigh* I wish I could just relax.
  • I started feeling EVERYTHING the day I hit 6 weeks and had barely any symptoms before that. Be happy for the lack of symptoms, you'll be feeling very differently when they do come :)

I recently had a miscarriage myself & read up before deciding when to start TTC again. From everything I've read they recommend waiting until your first period. However that's mainly so they can more accurately date your pregnancy, since they determine how far alone you are from the date of your last missed period. There are plenty of women who've conceived right after a MC & gone on to have perfectly healthy babies, google it if you'd like to read their stories & haven't already. :) Two things I read was that the Dr/nurses might get a little snarky with you b/c they can't date your pregnancy, which I didn't really care about. Also, because you can't be certain exactly when you got pregnant & how far along you are, when you do have your first ultrasound, you may be expecting to be 7 weeks & the baby only shows it's at 5, which can cause you to freak out & worry that something is wrong & the baby stopped growing, etc, and you will stress about this until the next ultrasound when everything is fine. For this reason, I chose to wait a month, b/c I'm a huge worrier & don't need another reason. So don't stress too much if this happens. I have no idea if they'll want to see you earlier, but I'd definitely call them & find out asap. We all know how long appts can take to get scheduled! Try not to worry to much, I know I am struggling with this right now as I just reached 7 weeks today & have my first ultrasound on Monday! Best of luck to you!
  • I called and the doctors do not want to see me any sooner and the nurse was super nice. I am a worrier too, but am also an impatient person so I couldn't wait to start and honestly never in a million years thought I'd be pregnant so fast. I am going to make my appointment in about 2 weeks. If I had to guess I think I conceived around 20-21st, because I tested on those days and it was negative, but I had severe nausea and mild cramping which I read can be associated with ovulating. I really have no way of knowing though bc I didn't temp. I appreciate everyone's responses. This is my first time writing in the blog. =)

Oh good! I'm so glad they were nice. The nurses & office assistants can be snarky sometimes, even without any reason. :) I'm not surprised that you got pregnant right away, another thing I read was that you're supposed to be super fertile after a MC. Not sure how scientifically valid that is, but it seemed to work for you! I know what you mean about being impatient, I'm 37 & haven't had kids yet, so it was hard to wait even a month. The fact that I felt like crap most of the month & about as sexy as a homeless urchin definitely helped though. Congrats & may everything go smoothly for you this time.
